Chapter 418: 7.08.2 Weakness.

"He is just naive sir. Blinding him and burning the journal should suffice." Majdar understood the mistakes his old student made. Mistakes worth death, but being a Radiant Knight, Majdar can’t force himself to do such a thing. Even if it was the request of the existence like the one before him.

But the man didn’t budge an inch, he just gave a deep look at Majdar, causing the old man to drop his head down in shame. "If he were to know that your old student dragged the chosen to her death with his request, do you know what would happen to either of us?"

"Someone needs to fall, and I would very much prefer if that someone is not one of us." At those words, Majdar sighed and nodded in the end.

He is not going to do it all personally, he is not cruel enough to face his student during his last moments. But he can give a helping hand, and after nodding multiple times, as if he assure himself that he can do it, Majdar left the scene.

’The old man is getting softer with time.’ The man thought before leaving the scene.

Darkness can’t exist without light and the same is true vice versa.

It is good in what can be considered the bad people, the thieves, the slavers, and the murderers. It’s their circumstances that force some to walk down such a dark path, and they try to maintain a modicum of humanity even while doing such evil crimes.

While there are bad among the good, and this has been considered true for many big organizations, where the higher in position you become, the less your humanity is left.

That’s what happens to merchants when all they see is numbers and money, they don’t see the people’s livelihood behind such numbers and hence can cause huge devastation just out of their greed.

That’s evil.

That is what humanity is all about.

And it’s a kind of evil that can’t be taken away from humanity, no matter what happens.

Hawking Ziegart was such a kind of evil. Or so many in his order considered him to be, for he was trying to revolutionize and revitalize the Knight’s order that had turned static and unable to fully adapt to the fast-changing politics of the world.

The worst part for those who upheld the old laws, there was a certain huge following for Knight Ziegart’s ideas among the Knights, along with some old families of Radiant Knights that hoped that in this ever-changing world, the Radiant Knights wouldn’t end up being just a joke.

Not to mention, the cost of living was increasing and the donations to Radiant Knights were drying up. That when matched with their recent blunders, including the ones with Remira’s. It’s easy to see that the Radiant Knight lacked the popularity among the masses that they had taken for granted before.

All of which just because of the fast dissemination of information among the countries that hid nothing, making the popularity of Radiant Knights drop down as time went by.

Of course, all of it started due to the blunder with Ikaros Yethel, which they might not have been blamed for internationally, but it still caused many organizations and nations to put up their guard in fear of any similar actions led by the Radiant Knight’s ambition.

But what did Radiant order do against such censure?

They did nothing, as the old leaders never came forward with any apology, nor did they bother to give out any excuse, they just kept operating as always, bringing down the name of Radiant Knight along with them.

It’s why there was a rise of sudden indignation among countless young Knights, who were unaware of the reason for their senior’s inaction, they just blamed it all on the old leadership being spineless. Which finally turned into a platform for Ziegart Hawking to lead a following.

With his following, It was Knight’s Ziegart’s plan to help Remira escape, and many people thought that it was Knight’s Ziegart who made it possible for Remira to escape her confinement, making his standing among the Knight leadership higher. But only Hawking knew that none of it was accomplished by him. But he didn’t mind taking the credit, as things had happened as he had assumed would happen.

And it’s for the very reason that Hawking Ziegart also earned the right to manage Remira while she hid on Leshen. "Knight Ziegart, this is the recent report on Knight Osana’s movement."

Which he took seriously more than one might have expected. ’She escaped with a member of Radiant Eye and the one holding the Samadhi flames.’ he had read the reports, and it was easy to see how effortless the escape was that Yethel let Remira go.

But that’s where the issue rose up. ’It’s that wraith’s doing, he expected me to make such moves. And followed up on it soon after.’ According to the report he has read, the wraith planned a lot further than one might have expected, causing his personal team of heathens to meet up with Remira and force her to give up the Radiant Eyes that saved her life. A Radiant eye he knows nothing about, but one way or another, he was forced to accept that she was his agent after all his claims before.

’During the Durum tragedy, there was mention of Number Two on Vance Clifford’s report as well, sadly, it was said that she disappeared after the tragedy... so how did she appear out of nowhere during such an opportune time?’

It was easy to see, that this was all Jester’s game, either this woman was just a pawn mentally manipulated by Jester, or she was actively working with Jester to begin with. Which also causes countless questions to arise.

’How did she infiltrate the Radiant Eyes and ignore the covenants she vowed?’ Not all can become Radiant Eyes, due to their job, all of them have to sign up on a magical contract built by the Magistars of Radiant Knights, also called covenants, which holds simple rules of not harming others as helping the Radiant Knights for the betterment of mankind.

Such rules appear simple and are actually simple, but they stop the Radiant Eyes from using their influence over information to cause any harm.

But if he thought correctly, then the Radiant eyes were compromised one way or another. ’There is one more thing to change.’ Hawking Ziegart had thought as such when he came to the conclusion of Radiant Eye corruption, before remaining silent and letting things operate as they were.

While he shifted his focus to the things that mattered more currently. Which was the upcoming war between Yethel and Cynark, and it was obvious on whose side he was.

But although he was busy, he didn’t forget about Remira, he had always requested a report on her. And this time, he found something interesting.

’The chosen one will always find themselves in trouble, it’s the way of the world.’ Reading the Majdar, a Knight from his own Generation, and how he appeared to force away the Adventurer that tried to fool Remira. It was easy to see what was going on after he received another report.

’Yes, Majdar is a survivor of those ruins.’ Barely anyone knows about the disaster among the Knights as most that did have died off to old age and the survivors have barred the memories off their minds fearing corruption.

But Ziegart, although never part of the expedition still remembers the losses clearly and the face of Majdar which was pale with fright. And although he might not know what those ruins were at that time, the addition of a new forbidden zone in the world soon after. He had long been aware of what that place was.

’So Majdar leaked precious information to his old disciple?’ He wondered for a bit, before shaking his head, denying such a possibility. But he still read the request the man named Rota had made to the Knights.

’This can be useful.’ Ziegart smiled. He smiled brightly for one purpose alone.

’Majdar, I had completely forgotten about you.’ Majdar, being a teacher for many aspirants held a sort of influence that was harder to ignore. He had the power to influence the new generation with whatever dogma he believed in. Sadly, he was one of the promoters of old ways, which was why all those who were taught by him still believed in the unrealistic Noble Knight belief.

But Ziegart had long abandoned such childish dreams. The Knights were dirty, and it’s better for them to accept their ugliness instead of masking them with their hypocrisy and self-delusion.

’Majdar you slipped.’ With a tap of his pen, a woman walked into his room. "Extract as much information as you can from this Rota." He finally has a weakness of Majdar in his hand. A weakness that finally could turn Majdar into his parrot.

"Lord, I have done as you asked. Prince Ludwig has heard your message."

"He did? I am curious about his reaction, can you explain in detail what he said, word to word?" Amir appeared bored at the moment as he ate his lunch. Which was to be expected as Amir never went by a minute not being busy.

And Lavani did as he was asked while ignoring the small distraction caused by her true gender that Ludwig mentioned in between, as it was not worth it at all.

"So he was happy?" The test that his grandfather has forced upon him can be said to be headache-inducing. It’s rare for an ambitious person to come under others easily, more so when the opponent considers you his potential subordinate in return.

So what sort of tactic can Amir use here?
