Chapter 396: 7.02.3 Found out the truth.
"Your talents were unexpected, to say the least. Among all the nobles I have met till now, promising ones specifically. You are the one that shows the most promise in all kinds of jobs, unless, of course, you are lying?" General Vera spoke as he read Amir’s resume, showing some surprise and some distrust.
The talents that Amir had written down in his resume were too fantastical to say indeed. ’A prince knowing Advanced Mechanics?’ It was absurd however and wherever you heart it. As for a prince, such knowledge was completely worthless considering they were the ones to hold power over those that hold such knowledge.
And wouldn’t others in a Prince’s position focus more on their bloodline to look good among their family? Why would a Prince waste his precious time on something so insignificant?
Or so it looked.
’Grand General did say this grandson of his is a bit special.’ Unaware of Amir’s past and how he grew up. General Vera treated him as a special case during his prior meetup. Even when Amir has claimed to dabble with engines and the like, he had only treated it as boasting on Amir’s part.
But now, knowing the kind of person Amir was, Vera was sure that everything written on this resume was true.
"How long did it take you to master this knowledge?" Curious, Vera asked, as for privacy purposes, there was no year written on when Amir graduated from college.
"Just four years ago, I built a theoretical electrical engine for my graduation thesis, but it’s only in the prototype stage." There was no need to explain how deep he had gone and how much had discovered since then.
All Amir intended was to obtain a job in support and logistics, there was no need for him to be on the war front and travel for a long while wasting precious time just to keep up the act that he was doing something.
Like many other nobles and Royals have done before.
Unlike them, he was someone who lacked time. He still had to find a way to save Hemant and learn what Prince Ludwig was planning.
But what he didn’t expect was Vera’s next words. "You... I would love to see this engine of yours." Vera spoke with a smile, which surprised Amir for a bit. "Are you sure General? It’s not as powerful as you might be expecting."
"Nothing of the likes, just show it to me and I will place you wherever you want." He was bored when there was no war on the horizon. So when the opportunity arrived to see something interesting, General Vera took it with his arms wide open.
It’s the same reason why he had a habit of meeting up with those arrogant young masters from noble families when they came to his barracks. As to him, all of them are more like clowns. Of course, there were uptight people like Amir, but even they showed some arrogance that Vera is used to mocking.
Generally, its people like this who fall the hardest when adversity comes knocking at their door.
Of course, Vera also knew that Amir was not that kind of person. His eyes showed experience and the calm that was absent in the current generation of nobles. He was too mature for his age and identity, it’s why Vera took him seriously.
Of course, part of it also had to do with Deimos, Amir’s Grandfather.
"My grandfather wishes for me to gain experience on the field," Amir said, worried a bit. As although he didn’t mind working in logistics, the order of his grandfather still remained in his head.
’Even if you are going there to look for a way to save your Knight, don’t forget your true purpose of earning achievements on the battlefield.’
But it would seem his worry was for naught. "Am I to assume, given choice, you will not fight on the field?"
"That’s not what I mean..."
"I am well aware of Grand General’s expectations of you. But in this place, there were various ways to make a name for yourself. And I am giving you an opportunity to do it here." With the discussion over, Amir was temporarily handed to the Mechanical Magic Department of Logistics.
Whose main focus was on the bizarre suit of armor called the Mage Armor, which Amir had heard about before. But this would be the first time he would see it.
"You will join them from next week, for now, focus on getting acclimated with the environment here. And remember to always be attentive, death comes fast in this place." General Vera gave one last warning to Amir before throwing him out.
Followed by a tour that Amir had with the prior soldier he met yesterday.
The Soldier went by the name of Lavana Centi, a man from the noble family. But lacking all the arrogance that comes with a surname. Making him an outlier in Amir’s eyes.
"I can see curiosity in your eyes, just ask." Even last night Amir noticed the questions that Centi had held back last night. But it’s probably because of Sarlen that he didn’t dare to voice out his questions. And considering Amir’s mood after meeting Sarlen, it’s good that Centi didn’t speak a word last night.
Though, it would seem that Amir made a small mistake. As the question that Centi asked after much consideration and under Amir’s urging was something he had trouble answering."Prince, is it true that you don’t possess a Knight?"
’Hah... rumors I presume.’
"You should have heard it from the Knight of Ludwig, my Knight is injured, so he couldn’t come here with me." Amir didn’t mind explaining his answer, but Centi seemed to nod hearing Amir’s answer before asking. "Then you might need someone to run your errands?" Centi spoke before he bowed in fear while explaining.
"Its... I don’t dream of being your Knight, I just wondered if I could help you during your stay here." Lavana Centi, barely an apprentice-level Knight while being in his twenties.
It was a sign of a lack of talent and potential. There is no future on the path of Knight for him. Nor did she show any potential in any other job available on the site besides becoming a simple guide to newbies that come to barracks.
This also made him someone who came across many powerful individuals while being someone so weak. And with so many strong around him, he also knew that there was an opportunity to be grasped if he was strong enough to hold it down.
Centi understood that he had to choose his target properly, as he had little to offer on his own and hence he would need to secure a job with someone really desperate. And this opportunity came in the form of the arrogant prince Amir, who appeared cold all the time, showing barely any emotions.
But no worries, this man was it. Lavana Centi understood that such an opportunity won’t come again. So he took it the moment Amir put down his guard.
Of course, Centi had also been ready to face mockery and even a beating in response to such a request of his. He might even lose his life if things don’t go his way.
However, the response he got from Armir was a lot friendlier than he had ever dreamed of. "I do require some help. Seems like I will take up on your offer."
******
"Is this the site?" A man asked, curious as he wandered into a cave.
The den of slavers was expertly hidden with shrubs and carefully planted trees.
Even the path to reach it took a bit of an effort as the entrance was on a climb, making it harder to approach for normal people.
But for Farhad and the men that followed him, this all was normal. "There is still some light?... Didn’t you claim that you have killed them?"
"It’s been just a night, the fuel might still be going on." Farhad had led the soldiers to the site, as promised.
He did it to show that his words held truth and he truly didn’t mean any harm. Not to mention, one thing he can confirm is that not everyone in Luthanza is corrupted. There was this Knight who chose to believe his words and come to the slaver’s joint to see what had happened.
"Captain Perseus, I wonder if this proof is enough of our innocence," Farhad asked standing in front of the countless corpses of slavers that had died in some brutal ways.
However, that was not the worst of it, there was another corpse, that floated in the water, bloated to the extreme.
It was the captain of the slaver’s ship.
"Take him out." Captain Perseus ordered his men to take out the body while he checked the site with a mute expression.
Then came the sound. "We have found some empty cages with blood in them." Attracting Perseus’ eyes, they sighed in disappointment.
"You said, some of them escaped?"
"Correct, as for where they intend to do, I can’t say."
"I would have believed those words of yours if you didn’t tell me the lie of you killing these people." There was only Farhad here at the moment, while Remira had chosen to stay outside for some personal reason she didn’t bother explaining to Farhad.
But she would have definitely regretted making such a choice considering that their little lie got caught so fast.
The captain then spoke. "The injuries were inflicted on these people on their own. They fought among themselves... beside that one."
