Chapter 382: 6.13.2 The Impasse.

"It’s true that I was going to expose of all the things I have witnessed here." And to prove my point, she accepted what she intended to do.

Which caused Sheva to tighten the gun in her hand. A simple action, not missed by Remira.

"But not to Cynark but the Order." Her words were calm, as she looked deeply at Sheva, for she knew that the decision-maker was her alone. And she was right, partially.

"You are not thinking that changes anything?" I asked, but got no answer from Remira, as she had deemed my actions a bit standoffish, making it harder for us both to have a proper dialog. That’s why she didn’t even bother to look my way.

"It does change things. The journey to the Order would take over a month for them. Meaning the remaining time, we will be safe." Sheva explained, taking a sigh of relief due to Remira’s answer.

Yes, this was better than Remira outright denying her true intentions. Her coming out truthfully in a way didn’t betray Sheva’s trust in her, while also showing that Remira was not the kind to ignore them or their actions.

Remira still maintained her position, unmoving and unfettered. It didn’t even matter how the other party took her answer. Because only a fool would misunderstand her at this point. A fool like the boy behind her.

And under the silence of Sheva’s answer, another sound started to come from a distance, as on the pier, a small war had already broken out. But besides giving it one look, the others directly ignored it.

The misery of this weak mortal was enthralling to watch for my subordinates. Among these were some apprentice Knights who only had a slight advantage over the mortals and hence were not faring as well.

Not to mention, they became a prime target due to their identity as Knights and hence faced the greatest pressure among slavers.

But their struggle was insignificant. "Then what about the Pet?... he will probably open his mouth, won’t he?"

At the mention of the Pet, Sheva was obviously confused for a bit, not understanding who I meant.

Was it the mortal woman among them?

No, she was not, considering the eyes of the strong man had widened over the description, including Remira. "You, how did you know?" He asked, surprised even.

But I didn’t bother answering. "This man is the Son of the military, he has connections and there are people that wish to obtain him... he would obviously open his mouth."

"You..." Among the struggles of mortals a new struggle began, Farhad kept lying that he won’t tell, while I kept ignoring his lies and Sheva remained confused over why she didn’t know about this young man, nor why he was called a pet.

As for Remira, she remained astute at the start, before feeling fed up with the conversation and saying. "Seems like what you want is war?" She looked at me while speaking those dangerous words.

Words that are too dangerous to be spoken in the current situation. "You wish to fight me? Knowing full well that there is a mortal you have to protect?"

I asked, but Sheva had to butt in and tried to defuse the situation. Which was not going to work anyway, as there was no way to reconcile what happened to "me" with words alone. I want answers, I want retribution for injustice done against me.

I wanted Remira to pay for her lies.

So I refused to acknowledge any reasoning, I refused it in an attempt to turn the discussions into war.

That was my attempt, that’s what I wanted. But Sheva kept declining it under the backdrop of multiple mortals falling to their deaths. Their cries held no value in our ears, for they were lower than humans.

It was then when the war between the men behind us was coming to climax, that the woman who was the most vulnerable spoke out her mind. "Then why not take a hostage?" She said while stepping out of Remira’s shadow.

"Don’t be stupid Number Two, this is not the time..." Remira’s refused her suggestion outright. For she knows what the fate would hold for Number Two if she were to go with these monsters, specifically me who carry hatred for Remira.

"They need proof that Farhad won’t expose them and I can be that assurance. That’s the only answer to the impasse we find ourselves in." An argument that doesn’t need many words ended in a sensible way.

Even Sheva won’t allow them to go without some assurance after she has confirmed that Remira is not the only one with influence, and if she doesn’t speak a word, doesn’t mean Farhad won’t.

And when Remira was coming to face the reality of her situation, Farhad said. "If someone has to act as a hostage, then choose me? I hold more value than her." The pride hidden in those words can’t be more fake.

I can see it, I know his intentions perfectly.

"Your value as a hostage is lower than that of the scum below your feet. And our master will be angry if we were to harm you in any way." I say as it was, putting down his idea before it could take root in Sheva’s head.

And although she didn’t know it clearly, she could see that there was something really odd with Farhad, something she couldn’t put her finger on. So she nodded to my response.

"Knight Remira, I promise that your friend will be treated gentlemanly and her crimes pardoned in account of her helping us escape this country. What say you?"

"No... no! Just take me as a hostage, I hold the Flames of Samadhi, I am more important than her."

"All the more reason we can’t touch you... she is easier to handle on account of being a mortal, while you...’ Sheva paused looking at the inhuman figure that towered above all. "... you are a monster that would obviously bring us trouble..."

Sheva was not blind, the eyes of this man held nothing but contempt for her. To him, as long as his companions were safe, he would do his best to deal with those he deemed his enemies.

A habit born out of his apparent immortality and suicidal tendencies. He didn’t mind going all out even in a fight he couldn’t win, because he knew, no matter what happens, the losses on the enemy’s side will always be higher.

"Farhad, there is no need to worry so much... With me in their hand, they have leverage, so they will keep this leverage safe, no matter what happens. So don’t worry." She said her mind, trying to put Farhad at ease.

While Remira, remained quiet for a bit, before turning to Sheva and saying. "I know your master’s nature, he would wish to ruin her mind, bend her to his will, and make her do things she doesn’t want... it’s who he is, and you know there is no lie in my words."

"Don’t worry, I assure you that such fate doesn’t befall you..."

"No. Words won’t do, just like our words were not taken for granted... I need assurance from you." Remira’s words attracted Farhad’s eyes, while I who was on the side mocked and said.

"Do you believe that you are in any position to make such a request?"

"Then do you wish to face mutual destruction?... I might not be able to kill you, but those precious slavers of yours... I can end them faster than you can blink. Then I wonder what would happen if you were stuck in this place for any longer? When will a new ship arrive here."

"..." She got me, two can play this game, and she really did.

This woman, her mind was still as sharp, even with all her losses. Or was it a moment of clarity after countless losses, her mentality might be recovering. A tight slap was necessary, but not now. Part of the plan was success.

"Then speak, how can we assure that nothing happens to her... I don’t hold a contract. And even if I did, it would be binding only to her."

"My blood, I am going to cast a ward on her, a greater ward, much stronger than the one I did for you last time." The ward she was talking about was the one that protected her from outside influence with the added bug of tracking if anything was trying to enter her mind or not. Making the ward on Sheva’s mind a greater one.

But Remira won’t say those words here. She just wishes to give Number Two a similar protection as she once did to Sheva. Who in some way broke her protection in a few day’s time from the inside.

’That must be when she awakened.’

"That... I can allow it." And Sheva accepted it without much issue, as she had experienced the effects of the Ward herself.

Which, instead of saving her, had turned her suicidal for a bit. Which was ironic on so many levels.

But let’s forget about the old and focus on the new. "She can put a tracking inside her."

"Whatever she does holds no value as long as we have her companion under our thumb." Sheva rebutted me directly, showing that she didn’t wish to have this conversation any longer.

Nor was I interested in it.

All I did was show my indignation while saying. "Hah! I am still weak." Cursing my fate, I turned to look at the surviving slavers, who had won the fight.
