Chapter 379: 6.12.3 Its an ambush.
Being on this ship, I learned of some interesting events that have gone by.
Including the one in which under the Captain’s order, the chef tried to poison the trio using an inert poison which was almost undetectable. As for how the trio was able to find out the truth, causing retaliation, most of the men didn’t know, including the captain.
But in my eyes, it was easy to know what might have happened there.
’Remira’s nose hasn’t gone that bad yet.’
"Captain, I wonder how far the closest town is from the port?" Selene asked. Curious about how long it might take to find civilization again. But the captain just shook his head in denial and suggested against it, as any just captain would have done.
He said, "It’s better to stay away from towns in Luthanza, none of them are safe." He told the stories and why the whole state was like a tight fortress. But he didn’t mention how he was able to conduct his business right under such a strong fortress.
"It’s why I suggest you talk with Paradi. With enough money, he will probably help you reach Wortham."
Selene nodded, acting like always, while Remira who had been acting nonchalant till now suddenly turned toward me.
’Hah, she found me.’ I sighed, and looked down from above, while she looked at the sails where I hid currently.
It was then Farhad, who had been silent till now gestured noticed Remira’s gaze, and understood who she was looking at.
That’s why he went ahead and gave her a signal to stop, which seemed inconspicuous to others, but I knew what the sign meant. Furthermore, it was a sign that Selene always used during group activity before. Her knowledge was probably shared with the two.
The two who now used it to converse with each other with simple finger interactions, most of which was to not look up.
But the Farhad might not know something that Remira does.
’Why is this boy here?’ She wondered. The smell was familiar, too familiar to her nose, albeit it had changed a bit from before.
The dwarven boy who barely survived. She remembers how the boy was caught by her temporary companions, the two Archmages that were responsible for carrying the proof of Jester’s existence to the Old monster that went by the name of Duke Wortham.
He was an army on his own, and with his support, the fight against Jester would have been much easier.
’But why is the boy here?’ She wondered, looking above, even wondering if the two had failed and the dwarven boy was forced to work for Jester again.
No, it might be something else instead, he is working for them and a companion of Selene. He might just be here to support them.
Proven by the fact that the boy did wish for a better life when she first met him. He wanted to run away from Jester and live a normal life. But seeing the boy here, it might be something else.
Or so the misunderstanding was born in her head. She considered me an ally, or at least not an enemy. All because of the limited amount of knowledge she had after her capture.
As for Farhad, I was nothing more than an enemy and he was right to consider me an enemy, or the being that controlled me, his enemy.
In his mind, the monkey was obviously some contracted spirit or animal used to keep watch over the people on the ship. If not dealt with correctly, the monkey would inform the people on the shore that there are some extra guests on the ship.
Guests are forced to act properly if they wish to reach the shore safely.
The monkey became one of the reasons why Farhad didn’t harm the people on the ship even after being so close to the land. He wants to capture them in one fell swoop. He can’t leave it on chance.
So he held it in, and even though this was the perfect opportunity to strike, Farhad had to hold it in. Hold in until they reach the shore.
When the sun finally dropped, the ores disappeared over the horizon, wooden oars grew out of the ship before they pushed the ship toward the shore, where some old friends waited for them.
For most, the starlight was not enough, even the navigator was blind to the darkness that surrounded them, only capable of seeing a bit further than the rest. But the Captain and Farhad could see acutely where they were meant to go and hence steered the ship slowly without causing any sudden movements.
He made sure that the ship moved in a straight path towards their expected meeting point.
And as the land grew closer, the blood in Farhad’s dead body started to heat up. He knew the time would arrive soon. And the first one he has to take out is the captain.
Although he can’t say for certain whether the man named Paradi the captain mentioned was strong or not, Farhad did know that taking out this Adept level Captain would make the rest of the fight much easier than before.
Not to mention, he alone is enough for a group of Adept-level Knights, so taking one out is nothing to him.
’Ah Farhad, making me almost envious... it takes so much for me to take out just one.’ The difference in strength between the two of us is as different as heaven and earth. I was a mere insect, incapable of possessing as much as destructive strength as him. But for now, this insect has a certain something planned in his head.
’Oh Selene, I hope your little plan works.’
With those words, I too waited for the ship to reach the shore.
Which was more like a giant cave inside a hill facing the sea, usually covered in green vines, hiding it from curious eyes, today, there were two small torches lit on the two sides of the cave, enough to let the ship know where the entry point was. But not strong enough to attract any unwanted eyes.
And like usual, as the Captain aligned his ship in the proper direction, the torches suddenly went out. A sign that things were going as expected.
Now all the captain hoped was that Paradi had brought up his knights with him, which would make the current fight a lot easier.
"Get ready, there should be a small booze party after landing." The captain turned to the trio and spoke with a bright smile. He couldn’t wait for the so-called "party".
All that was needed for this celebration was the men who were on the other side of this vine curtain.
"I welcome all of you to our hideout." He claimed, expecting some familiar faces on the other side.
But all he found was just a single familiar face and no one else.
"Huh?" He thought for a second before he noticed the lack of enthusiasm of his friend from a hundred meters away, which made him shout. "It’s an ambush." He said, while his arm deflected a meat tentacle that stabbed his way. "You..."
"Hah, since how long did you know I was going to attack?" Farhad asked, finding that his plan was ruined somewhat.
Being the first time on the ship, he didn’t notice how odd the situation was, or why there was only one person on the side.
Whatever the case was, it was good for him, it would be easier for him to take out this captain. But who would have thought, the captain would call out an ambush so fast, running his hidden strike.
"You, you created this trap?" Under a similar misunderstanding, the captain asked a stupid question again. Which was meant to be the beginning of a fight between the two weird super-beings, but Remira had other plans. "Crow, was it? Are you working with Anna, including Number Two?" She asked directly looking at me, attracting the captain’s as well as Farhad’s attention, who was surprised to learn that Remira knew who the monkey was.
No, more than surprise, he was horrified. "This monkey was a person?" He wondered, looking at me, who slowly turned from a monkey to a half-transformed monkey man, who while being stuck to the ship couldn’t help but sigh. "Sorry to say Knight Remira, but I am not working for them."
A transformation that made the face of the Ship’s captain darker.
He knew.
He understood the trap he had fallen into. "Men." He shouted.
"RUN!!"
The original plan was abandoned without a moment’s notice. And under the surprised gasps of his men, he ignored Farhad who was coming at him with full force, and tried to run away with his superhuman speed.
It was then, that I, who was looking at Remira suddenly shouted. "He is not needed." Followed by a gunshot.
A gunshot reminded Remira of her own fall, how she was supposed by a bunch of snipers, making her reel back out of instinct. While Farhad, who was going to follow the ship’s captain also came to a halt, knowing full well what a sniper was capable of.
