Chapter 349: 6.03.2 Listen to me.

Did she hold any desire for this seat?

Obviously not, she held no interest in it, nor did she wish to work for Jester. But things have progressed this far, and knowing the fate of Jara, she can’t just leave him alone. Saving him was her top priority, while the latter was something that was forced upon her by Jester.

A fate of a daughter killing her father. A fate that was too much for her, but she had to go through it if she ever dreamed of fulfilling her first wish.

And to get closer to that fate of hers, she has to take the whole team two under her wing. And make this nameless subgroup of hers the true leader of their team. But it seemed harder to accomplish, considering how she was not even respected among her current underlings. This was not expected, considering that all three of them were at Adept level, while she was a mere Apprentice level knight who really was considered too green in the eyes of these transcendent.

By the team she reached their safe house, the trio seemed to show no interest in her. In their mind, it was harder to win when compared to someone like Crow, who had recently entered the Adept level Knight and had been trained by their previous leader Jara not too long ago. Showing that he had developed some prestige when compared to Sheva.

"We should have a name, Team Two, subgroup A... at least a better name should do."

"You should understand, that the simpler the name, the harder it is to pinpoint our origins. There is a reason why Master prefers this naming style to something rand."

"Still man, I find it a bit boring. Also, don’t these numbers also mean that there are others in our group? We’re just exposing ourselves."

"What if that was the intended purpose."

"Canary, Sid, and Lace were the three of you able to throw off your stalkers?" Sheva came to them and asked. And the reply she got was a nod. "We were able to throw them off easily. But considering Captain’s build, we had some idea that it might take you a while." One among the group said, his name was Canary with a bright round face, with a destitute smile on his face.

His words also carried a lair of discernible arrogance, which Sheva didn’t like much. But there was nothing to be said, considering it really took her a while to throw off the pursuers.

"Lace, go back out and make sure that there is no one snooping around the area." It was a direct order that Lace, couldn’t deny. He stood up and did as he was asked, leaving the other two in the group with Sheva.

Who looked calmly at Sid and asked him to go and contact the other subgroup and learn what their overall approach was going to be, in case there were intersections between the two.

Which left only Canary at the end. Who seemed to have expected this was coming? "Am I in trouble?" He asked, and Sheva shook her head in denial. "I understand your perspective, and how frustrating it would have been due to losing your colleague, but I would prefer if you don’t act childish during the mission."

"Everyone here knows my build is different, it’s not good for the urban sprawl like here. I just stand out due to my height. Which in itself is a challenge for me to face. All I hope is you don’t add to that challenge."

"This much just for some word..." Before he could end the sentence, a hand moved at the speed of sound and lifted him up by grabbing his neck. "You..."

"A curse user seems to have a weaker body than I had expected, so sensitive, so squishy."As she said those words, her grip around his neck started to turn tighter, making it harder and harder for Canary to make a single sound.

But Canary was not going to take this lying down, his eyes turned hollow as a mist rose up from his body, attempting to attack Sheva.

"Tch, and I expected you to be smarter." There was no need for her to do a thing, all she had to do was loosen some of her self-control, causing a chain to materialize behind her, directly striking Canary in his shoulder, causing him to close his mouth in pain. "Don’t you know, how much I hold this thing back? You are not leaving me any choice." Sheva was fed up.

She really was.

Her mission was harder to begin with, made worse by her build which stood out too much in a populated city. Making it virtually impossible for her to directly act in the mission besides using her sniper from afar.

Meaning, that unlike Crow, who could change his body at will and even directly live in the colony. She can’t afford such chances. All she had were the three in front of her, the three men were her hands and feet during this mission. So if these three limbs of hers didn’t work properly due to one limb being too disobedient, it might cause the cohesion of the team to break down. Which none can afford.

She specifically can’t afford such chaotic elements in her team. So she needed to put Canary back in his place. And the moment he said. "Pleas... spare me." She did nothing.

"Ensure that you would act like a good member of the team, otherwise I don’t see any value in keeping you with me. A third limb is excessive anyway."

"I... I will."

"Good." Canary’s body fell to the floor, where he gasped for breath while ignoring the hole in his shoulder. A hole that should have been between his eyebrows, if not for Sheva holding back the centipede-like golden chains of hers.

"I hope for you to keep what happened here today a secret from the other two. I don’t wish to lead with fear."

"Yes, Ma’am."

A smirk appeared on Amir’s face as he read the report.

’Nothing.’ he said, looking at how his request hadn’t been fulfilled by his butler at all. "Hemant, did you ever convene with Burghim before coming to work under me?" He asked the only Knight in his group whom he trusted.

A man of commoner descent, whose whole family worked in the Cynark military for countless generations before earning a bloodline for themselves. The bloodline of the Tauran which was didn’t even originate on the Brihma Continent.

"I am not meant to speak of matters of General to Sir."

"I am asking as your lord." The relationship between a Knight and their lord was much different than the relationship between a general and his soldiers. A Lord’s will take priority, no matter what, even if it means fighting your head official.

Which left Hemant with not much choice. "No, I haven’t. This is the first time I met Sir Burghim."

"No worries, you can leave for now."

Amir is excited about such an answer. Whether what Hemant said was true or not didn’t matter, he just wished to fill in some blanks in his head.

’They wouldn’t have put Hemant under me if he was someone privy to any sensitive details that I shouldn’t learn.’

Amir didn’t know why, but Butler always felt creepy to him. Of course, his keeping an eye on him was obvious. But Burghim was too controlling when it came to him and treated him more like a bird in a cage.

Not to mention, for some reason, Amir can’t stand up against this Butler of his. ’I hate this family.’

He didn’t know what kind of trouble was keeping an eye on him.

’If not for mother and father, I would have long run away from this life.’ Amir couldn’t help but sigh at his fate.

He still sees them from time to time, his "real" family that nurtured him for two decades while barely scrapping a living for themselves.

A couple who couldn’t have children of their own reared the child of the royal family. Isn’t it absurd when one thinks about it?

"No will of my own... I am disgusted by Uzma, but I am turning more of a canary in a cage." Is this really what his Grandfather intended, to turn him into an order-following puppet?

*****

It was the third day since he got Hemant’s report, and he had a small fight with his Butler over it. But as usual, giving the excuse of the other two lords denying his request, Burghim threw the responsibility over to them, while freeing himself of any criticism.

But Amir would not be so gullible. He is not stupid enough to fall for whatever is going on here. And he knew now, that the only one who could answer him would be his, would-be assassin.

"You are here?" He smiled as a face appeared after his words. "You noticed beforehand?"

"It’s easy, the images in the mirror would turn wave when you appear." He smiled and answered, before coming to the main point. "You, why are you scared of my butler?"

"... I am not. But it seems my Master is. He warned you to never come close when your Butler is in the house."

"How can you tell he is not in the house?"

"It’s a secret." Amir didn’t know what to say, did she live close to his house? Or what.

Well, whatever the reason was, he knew that this woman had been keeping an eye on him. Proven by the fact that she asked why he was looking for women en masse in the city. A sign that Uzma was doing her work properly. Even went outside of her way to confirm if the census was correct while using her family to recount the population once again.
