Chapter 337: 5.18.1 Old beliefs.

This world was a hateful one.

Not on the account of the misery of the weak or the tragedies that taking place all over the world each second.

No.

The reason it was hateful was for one reason.

"What about tent D7? Is there a chance they would survive?"

"No, the disease has progressed too much, the medicines would be wasted on them. So take care of them."

It was that this world had no humanity.

Kindness and civility was the tool of the weak, which they used to protect themselves and their mentality. Thinking that if they don’t do anything wrong, nothing would happen to them.

But for the powerful, the moment they deemed to trash, you will be burned to death. And that’s what happened to the Tent of D7, where the ill were kept along with their families.

Since the beginning of the plague, many have died. It doesn’t discriminate against the age, gender or ethnicity. It’s the great equalizer, where everyone would have suffered equally.

What happened actually was something else. "We have a prototype for a vaccine, it can be mass-produced as long as we get the mandate." But they never got any, which forced the development to hold and caused the plague to spread further.

By the time the government released vaccines, its price was skyrocketing in the market.

None of which mattered to me, my young ones didn’t care about the life of some dead people. It’s a pity that they died such a horrible death, but the world ahead is more miserable, it’s better to send them on a journey early on, instead of struggling at the death’s door for long.

But why did those people have to die?

The reason is simple.

"The institute is virtually empty beside two head researchers that still seems to be working on a massive project."

"Two still remain? Guess they seem to have learned that the curses in Carp are not so simple... if they end up finding that, it will be even more troublesome." Owl spoke, looking a bit worried.

Their plan was progressing slowly as expected, but no matter how much the disease they spread, it still won’t affect the security of Duke’s research institute.

If it was earlier, the Duke might have forced everyone to go deal with the plague problem first. But seeing that two still remain, it was apparent that the Mystics of this institute might have learned something.

Not a good sign.

"Should we release the third one?" Scarp asked, his hand fiddling with a glass vial, which was soon taken away by Owl, who looked at Scarp with annoyance. "Do you wish to kill us all?" He didn’t know how Scarp took it from him, nor did he care at this point. "If the two still remain, that means the Duke has his eyes on the tower. And considering he is a legendary existence, the research institute might be under his influence."

"So, no matter what, we have to find a way to send him away."

A legend, they were famous for possessing a domain that could cover a whole city if they wish it to. So coming close to a legendary being been tantamount to asking for death in this situation. As nothing was hidden from them in their domain.

"How can we move him? The duke didn’t even make a move when Master turned over Durum."

"He is an absolutist, he doesn’t care until it strikes his bottom line. And from what we learned, he really doesn’t care about the wizards or the commoners. Which was a mistake on our part."

"So cruel, and he considers himself a ruler."

"More like a warlord. But, if we are to think about it, he does have one weakness." Owl spoke, taking out a small piece of paper where some names were written. "Let’s find a way to kill some outliers of Bloodcrow family, the old duke should be worried then."

The Bloodcrow were the family behind Cynark Empire, a distant branch of the Night Raven Bloodline, which built the nation of Cynark out of nothing.

But as Bloodcrow replaced the Night Raven in the past, the same might have been true when the family of Bloodheart started to gain traction.

A branch of Bloodcrow, created by the very blood of Duke Wortham. Who, in fear of the Empire’s stability, ordered its annihilation.

"Then, who could we hunt? Aren’t all the important people in BloodCrow surrounded by experts?"

"Not kill, but deal in a way only a Legendary would be able to help."

"Buw how?"

"The Mystics in the tower should not be strong, Mini, you stay here and keep an eye on them. While Scarp, you will come with me. As it might require the help of your special ability."

"While the rest, be ready, the moment Duke leaves, we would have an hour at most. Save Carp before he comes back."

"Yes leader."

"Those people keep finding faults with us, and now this."

In Cynark, at the very peak of a certain mountain, there stood multiple small buildings interconnected with rope bridges.

And among one of the highest building, a man sighed while reading the report he just acquired.

"Why did Remira even go there? Was she not aware of the dangers?"

"She must have her reasons, probably related to that existence which ruined Albasta Knight."

"He still survives to this day?"

"He is the one that lead to the countless deaths in Durum, or so Knight Remira told us."

"You speak as if you don’t believe her words." Alexander was a young Grand Knight that hasn’t faced any political struggles. In his mind, the Radiant Knight’s will was supreme and everyone else was wrong.

So when he heard the head of the Hall spoke about Remira in such a questioning tone, he couldn’t help but wonder.

Wonder why the head spoke in such a way.

"No I don’t. I believe such words before, and it resulted in complete brokering of our forces in Sarvilla." The past was painful to him, because one choice of his had broken the relations between them forever, and all the attempts to mend them till now had been failure.

And for Alexander, who had just entered the world of Grand Master, learning such a dirty secret was surprising to say the least."... Wasn’t that just a rumor?"

"You are new, so you might not be aware not to mention, not many Knights who took part in that attack remain alive to this day." That was the biggest mistake of the century for Radiant Knights.

It was the moment they created a blood feud with a growing nation and the weird existence that lived among them.

"Just know, that no matter what happens, we can’t use force in this situation. Because if we did, this would give them the right to retaliate and on the internation stage, it would give an excuse to further suppress our activities. So no matter how it appears or what the people are saying. This is a sensitive matter where we can’t make a single mistake."

They read the reports, saw the vents that transpired in Phuket and Remira’s involvement in them. They even read how Remira was blamed for Durum in the Document. Causing many of the Knights to cry out in anger due to emotion.

So many sacrifices and this is how they are treated.

"They are intent on making this drama bigger." A knight in hood spoke. "This won’t do... permission to go behind enemy lines and Rescue the chosen knight?"

"It would make the matters worse. We have to use a different tactic this time." One of the Other Knight in the scene spoke.

With bright red hair and a fiery mustache. He had a jolly smile on his face as he said some inhumane words of abandoning Remira.

"Your reason?"

"They have us in their grasp as long as Remira is considered part of our Knight Order. So why not just kick her out? Then they lose all their leverage."

"She is only alive, because she is part of our Knight order."

"No... she would have died like many of our compatriots from that accursed operation did. The only reason she is alive is due to her identity as the chosen one. They won’t dare to anger the First Knight, no matter what happens."

"... How are you sure that they know she is a Chosen?"

"I don’t know for sure, but can’t we just publicize this secret by accident? No matter what happens later or what we choose, they won’t dare to touch her."

But before this idea could be further discussed, a man that Remira was very familiar with suddenly spoke. "Are we really going to consider this? Giving a Knight up just to save our tail?" It was Vance Clifford, who after the baptism of Durum has grown to the level of a Grand Master himself.

"A temporary suspension, Knight Vance. This would save her life, and take us out of this political dilemma."

"But this is not right, this goes against our creed. Bowing down to a false nation that employs demons like that is a sign of weakness. We can’t let them think they have an edge over us."

"Vance, this matter is too personal for you. So it’s better you don’t take part in it." Although Vance’s words held the Zeal that a Radiant Knight should possess. But reality in the world was much different than before.

This was the age of information, the age of knowledge, where the old Knight’s Creed was too outdated.

If they wish to survive, they need to adapt. Which means, bowing down when it calls for it.
