Chapter 326: 5.15.2 The truth about the game.
"No one wins." Blue Rose spoke while looking toward me, a corpse that sat on the sofa. "A sore looser, are you?"
I was a sore loser, there was no denying it. And there was no shame in being a sore loser, because at the end of the day, it’s much more fun if no one gets what they wanted. "I couldn’t let them win, not after they killed my man."
"So you killed my joy for it? I was so looking forward to meeting the winner of this game. But from the looks of it, they might never come to visit me anymore."
"No need to fret, your excellency, a loser like me is here to accept his punishment. I hope, it would be enough to entertain you." I say, while dropping my head toward her. "But before you do so, can you please listen to a few requests of mine?"
I was not going to die here, that was a forgone conclusion considering the relationship between me, the Horned bastard and Blue Rose. He won’t let me die or let any harm come to me, considering I was still of use to him.
And considering how much influence of Lord Emotion had on Blue Rose’s resurrection, she must know that killing me would probably bring her more trouble than she can handle.
So at most, her punishment would amount to causing me annoyance at most, or some sacrifice of useful individuals. A sacrifice I don’t mind making, considering how much it would ’hurt’ me. Just like how Lecarth’s death ’Hurt’ me.
So let her take revenge of any kind she wants, I was ready.
But at the end of the day, wouldn’t it be better if I lost nothing?
"You wish to put forward a condition, after everything you did here? Even going so far as to lead the boy into all this mix?" She asked, with a hint of anger on her face. And I didn’t say, just laughed it out. "He must really be someone important to you, otherwise, you wouldn’t have shown such a worry for him all this time."
"But you should be aware, I never intended to involve him. That was done by the greedy boy who came for you. If not for my timely intervention, things would have gone a lot different from it went."
"Oh, then speak, how it might have gone without your intervention?" She asked, ready to entertain my words for a bit. While Kairut on the side went back to brew some tea along with biscuits.
"The boy always knew somehow. Even before me, he knew that you had some connections to Henry." When saying these words plainly, her eyes turned straight. But it was no secret at this point, so she didn’t mind my words at all. "Curious, isn’t it? A lowly orphaned boy like him was aware of your arrival, he even knew your connection with the boy long before you set foot in this city."
"And, from the looks of it, he was aware of me, the Rat."
None of my words were secret, It’s what have kept everyone in confusion for a while now.
How did someone like Rashid became aware of our existence? Why did he know so much while being ignorant of many other things? None of it was possible for someone of his level.
"His original intentions were to use your connections to Henry, in order to get what he wanted. He might not know what role Henry would have played in all of this, but he still brought him here, which in turn earned him an audience with you."
"He did do that. I had been curious how the boy looked in person, so I allowed him in." Blue Rose spoke with a seductive laugh, finding the memory somewhat amusing. "But speak, I wonder where do you think you helped the boy?"
"I helped by my mere existence."
"Oh, speak. Tell me all about why you were so important here?" She found my words arrogant, while I tried my best to be amusing.
"If the two were alone today, the test would still be given, albeit a lighter one. And Henry would have ended up falling into the world of transcendent, which I believe you might not like." I said, and she nodded at my comment.
She doesn’t wish to involve herself with the boy, but as the fact stands, if nothing was done in time, Henry would become addicted to the adventure and thrill of transcendence.
Once you enter this world, it’s harder to extricate yourself out of it. And even if you escape, people are prone to falling back into it from time to time.
"Then add in the second participant, Knight Remira. She would have become a foil to Rashid and played against him. Which might have placed Henry’s life at risk as well, considering the nature of Remira."
She nodded again, knowing full well the kind of woman Remira was.
A personification of proper knight that doesn’t mind sacrificing her or anyone else’s life in order to reach her goals of greater good. She could be considered a villain if her one track mind were to be taken into account. But due to her selfless nature and desire, she in turns becomes an annoyance instead.
"Then the third point is what actually happened. You first made it so that the Knight Works with the boy, while Henry is set aside... But then I wonder, why did you include Henry back into this mess?"
"By that point, you must be aware of my intentions over the boy, even your master learned of it. So why did you go out of your way to force him back into this world?" She asked, curiosity written all over her place.
But I just smiled. "You did see, what became of Henry after meeting you?" I asked, but never got a response from her. Only a small smile. "So you helped him?"
"He needed a friend, and I made my pawn play the part of the friend. Slowly dragging the boy out of his hideout, back into the open. Returning life to him."
"But he had been infected with the virus of adventure, his mind will never be the same. It will not be odd for him to come back to this world after living his mediocre life, just like his father."
"So I gave him a push, dragged him back to the world of wonders and then gave him a shock, along with a father’s disappointment. Wouldn’t you say, I did a good job?" I asked with pride, speaking over how great my pawn was, executing every move without a problem and then dragging Remira down a notch saying how her actions were causing more harm as time went on.
"The boy will never be back in this world. I will even make sure that the boy and his family live without worry in this country. But don’t worry, I won’t ever make it obvious. It’s better to keep them in the dark when it comes to things like this."
"You have thought it through, you knew that you will fail, didn’t you?"
"I am not this good. My original plan was for my pawn to betray them at the last second and steal the relic from the boy when time comes. But I won’t deny that I didn’t have backups in case I do lose."
"Yes, turning into a sore loser."
"A sore loser that understands the value of a loss and how to make the best of a situation."
I say, there won’t be a better loser in this world than me." I said without shame, carrying a pride that would make a prostitute blush. "And besides, isn’t Excellency’s punishment just an excuse to see what I am capable of to begin with? Which I believe I showed during this whole test, perfectly."
At my words, her face finally cracked. "You noticed? Since when, I wonder?"
"Since the start. Otherwise, if you were to carry the true hatred for me, I wouldn’t have survived meeting you the first time... and I am sure of this fact, as unlike others, you are well aware of what I am. A fact that the present day churches can’t even fathom."
At these words, the smile on her face turned to ruin. She looked at me deeply for a bit, before asking. "Lakyus, he is in this world, isn’t it?"
"Going by the time, I stumbled upon his notes a few decades after he left the mortal world and came to this world a hundred years later. Which means, he had enough time to accumulate a certain amount of strength while being on the run from the Churches."
"And if I didn’t think wrong. He is aware of your birth, your existence. As I felt him come for me the moment I had been exposed into the world, back in Durum."
"You can feel him?"
"Like a prey running from the predator, I had always been privy to his existence, and hence I am always on the move and looking for strong backers."
Lakyus, the Daemon of Nightmares. He was the being that was closest to the Goddess of Night and went rogue after her disappearance. Killing countless people that dared to look into matters of her domain. Which forced the hands of gods into banishing him into the world of mortals, where his soul will slowly degrade after constant reincarnations till he forgets who he used to be and become a mortal once again.
And before his banishment, one of the godly beings he killed was none other than Blue rose, the Daemon of Incarnation.
