Chapter 322: 5.14.2 A perfect plan.
There is no greater talent in this world than the ability to hide from the divine. And that is what Vegal had been able to achieve, although out of accident. A perfect tool for a being like me with nobody to begin with.
Ass for others, they would lose too much, if they were to go through a similar process in order to achieve a similar state as mine. That is, if they were able to find a compatible body to begin with.
Though, for the beings with divine nature or the Daemons, it’s not so hard to force things through their existence alone. But generally, they won’t do it and only look for their Saints, people who will willingly give up their body for their gods.
Making it possible for the divine to personally interact with the material world, or so to some extent. Because even a saint is not in control, as I am of this body. For a Saint is mostly a mixture of the two wills, the original owner of the body, mixed with the existential power of a god.
That is what Blue Rose was. A human with divine nature, I would even call her a puppet under control of a Daemon that had lost her body. But what could she do? She had no option, and she had to gamble by using a Saint, who in turn could accidentally influence it.
It is generally why, a Saint is always chosen based on their compatible personality and nature based on the God.
’That bone can’t find me in dream world, nor Remira can feel the oddity of mine in real world. Truly the best of both sides.’
She had just stood aside, turning into a wall between me and Rashid, who was looking for the treasure. As for what treasure, it was. I still didn’t know, nor I had any intention of touching it.
"Can all of us choose something from here?" I asked Remira, who gave me a deep look, before nodding. "You can, after he is done."
And he did choose what he was looking for, a small bronze cup with indents all over it. Seemed something belonging to the commoners in the old ages, who probably gave it as sacrifice to the church in hopes of better harvest.
’Hmm, so is this the ticket to my freedom?’ I wondered, and it did look appealing, for I could feel a mysterious energy surrounding the little cup. I don’t know what happened with this small cup through the years it was stuck in this place, but it probably has reached a relic status.
As for Remira, she just walked carelessly and chose a dirty rock on the pedestal next to skeletal remains of some old sacrifice that had been written in the records that Malidi left.
"Go, it’s your turn." She spoke to me, wishing to end this whole game as soon as she could. "Yes." I nodded and picked the item that I had been eying for a while as well.
"A seed?" She asked me, curious over why I chose a seed over so many treasures in this place. And I could only awkwardly say. "This is a field belonging to the church of Root and Harvest, a domain that belongs to the nature. And my bloodline is also close to nature. I think this would be helpful for my future." I didn’t hide my intentions, there were no lies in my words, although I did hide some things.
And Remira have to accept these words.
"Rashid, congrats on winning this game." I said with a smile. A pathetic smile that was barely able to conjure up, while I eyed the cup in his hand. But there was no desire to covet it in my eyes. All I hoped was that he saved me from this hellish place. I wished to escape the net of Jester.
Or so all my gestures were made to seem like.
A subservient posture, all in an attempt to put their guard down. Which they never did, to them, I still remain a threat. More so than before, as now they hold the key to their victory in their hand. They can’t make a mistake after coming this close.
So I didn’t speak much, I just asked them to take care of me and followed their every step. And I finally saw how they entered this place.
’Different from me?’ I thought as they walked through the door, leading to the fourth floor, the generic path where one sacrifices a life. Guess, I thought too much of this two, but I still followed in and came across the wheat field filled with the corrupted shrubs.
"How?" I asked, in confusion, shouldn’t we be going to the fourth floor?
The same question that Remira and Rashid also held, but it was good news in my eyes. As it would seem that the managers of this ruin had caught onto the oddity that was Baldar and probably sealed the fourth floor to prevent him from turning into a menace to the real world.
"Just keep moving, the faster we leave, the better it will be for us." Remira ordered, looking around the trees, who should be getting out and attacking us, but they didn’t seem to do so. "??" I questionably looked at Remira and asked. "Why aren’t they attacking us?"
"No time for questions, it would even be better if you escape to the pier. We will come to you after completing this mission."
"Can... can I bring my master?"
"Is he in any state to be moved around?" I couldn’t reply to Remira’s question, for she probably knew that Max’s state was not so great from Sheva’s mouth, so it would be weird if I went against such expectation. "I just wish to give him a peaceful last day."
"If you wanted that, then you shouldn’t have gone against your masters." I couldn’t retort her words, once again. She got it right, if I truly cared, I wouldn’t have chosen to work with Remira to begin with. "I had no choice... after they were done with you, it would obviously be my turn anyway." I spoke, attracting Remira’s curiosity, but I didn’t say more than this.
It was good that the monsters here were silent for all the people present here. For one, it helped me have some dialog with Remira, letting me understand her on a deeper level while seeing that she was not as naive as she used to be.
On the other hand, it helped me hide the odd method that I used to enter the fifth floor directly.
Not far from where I was, I could see a small patch of wheat where a small shrub was growing on its own.
Bigger than before, I knew that if I hadn’t succeeded, it would have drained me of all my vitality. But I did succeed and earned some sort of immunity in this place.
I had become one with these plants, one of them.
So if they had attacked, and I had been immune, it would have been a long story to explain. Which I would have enjoyed doing, but this is better.
Though the moment when we reached the door and attempted to open it, someone pushed it from the other side instead.
Someone, I had been looking forward to meeting.
"On guard..." Remira ordered us, readying herself to strike the intruder, but before that could happen, she saw the figure on the other side and said. "Sheva?"
"Sir Knight?" Sheva, covered from head to toe with blood and some rotten flesh, seemed surprised as well to see Remira, before her eyes fell on me, and she tried to speak some more words. But then dropped on the ground, after losing all her strength."
"What... What happened?" I asked. My face filled with worry as I hurried to check over her health, while Remira and Rashid still maintained some distance from her.
And this was the just most in this situation, their enemies were numerous, or so they thought. With abilities that were harder to understand. So it was a safe option for them to keep their guard up and be ready for any ambush. So letting me check on her was the optimal choice in this situation.
"She appears thin." But it didn’t mean that Remira was ignoring her. Her nose was as good as ever, so were her eyesight.
She could see how thing Sheva appeared, how much blood she has lost and even the smell, which was disgusting and stung her nose, was too much for a normal person.
But none of that could compare to the mass of energy she felt from Sheva, a blood energy of the kind she hadn’t ever seen in her whole life.
’She is a Knight now?’ Sheva must have thought of this.
While I, on the side, acted surprised to find a small vial that was kept in my bag not too long ago. "This?"
There were other vials in the area, along with some bandages, but this one stood out to me. And as I appeared so surprised to see it, even Remira turned curious over what it was.
"It’s a blood enhancer. Only works one time and strengthens the blood of a Knight permanently. It was my reward for getting close to..." I didn’t speak, but only looked toward Rashid.
But Remira was not interested in the reason for me holding something so precious, she instead asked. "So what happens to those without bloodline?" She asked. But I had no answer. I only said what a person in my situation should have known.
