The God of Jesters

Chapter 232: 4.5.5 Meeting her again.

The legacy of her family and their demise, all seemed to be in this tomb, so it was that she was never going to come back. For now, she was going to send someone else, someone better than her at handling situations like this, and then come back when the Magistars understood the situation here clearly and dealt with the undead housed here.

They were escaping, or one could say, it was a tactical retreat and Remira was going to follow them with Farhad in tow.

Of course, this was just for a little while. As the moment they leave her old village, they plan to separate for now. Hoping that the chaos in that mausoleum comes to an end. And it would, from what Remira had understood. Till now.

Whether the claims of her mother and the rest were true, she didn’t know.

Neither did she have the liberty or desire to stay with her mother for longer than it was needed. It doesn’t matter if she changed, the very fact that she is alive and Remira got to learn something about her was enough.

As for having an emotional reunion and talking to each other about their past? There was no time for those things.

The world and their situations forced them to retain a stoic nature and be led by rational instead of emotions.

So they left and it turns out that walking out of the village was much easier than Remira had thought before, as there was no need to walk at all.

"How did you bring such a thing here?" She wondered, looking at the small tank draped in white camo that made it somewhat harder to distinguish the snow that surrounded it. A tank that is almost impossible to climb the hills and get here, but for some reason, she was sitting in one of them.

"Let me ask you this, how did the Cynark Military bring their artillery so deep into the mountains?" Rajara put forward a question, leaving Remira to contemplate for a bit.

"So they had built a secret pathway?"

"An old and unstable one, it’s been over a century since the path was built and it is highly unstable. And after the bombing that happened that day, the shocks had made it much worse than before."

Under the assumption that there used to be a hidden outpost of the Cynark military here, there would obviously be a need for a supply line and one can’t always play the game of cat and mouse to hide from the eyes of the nobles.

So the government claimed to have built a road towards the village a long time ago, records of which were silently hidden from the curious nobles.

"You mean to say, such a path was not taken down by the military when the village was retarded as a Forbidden Land?" Remira wondered. She was not stupid. If the path was used by the military and they had planned to cordon off this area, then they would surely do their best to cut off major paths toward the village.

Of course, her mother just smiled and said, "Why would they? They still remain curious over who is buried there."

Daugrs were not that odd in the eyes of Cynark. They were dime a dozen and found throughout history. There was a reason why it was a practice that was emulated by nobles and the rich to feel special.

But what mattered to the Kingdom was the thing hidden on the third floor. They were curious about the Taboo area and what is the reason behind its formation.

And Rajara won’t deny it, although her focus itself was on the anomaly born in the cave along with the Daugrs. She still retained a hint of curiosity over the existence down below.

Who the master of these Daugrs were.

"After what I have seen, I would have called them fools who would put the lives of innocent at risk, if not for them doing it already.’’ Remira sighed, before looking at her mother and the rest in the small tank. "A bit hypocritical in a sense, then I am helping you people do something similar."

"Our goals differ."

"Doesn’t matter, Mother."

"You have turned a bit boring after growing up. I remember how you used to..." Before Rajara could speak, she turned silent.

As Remira had told her before. Nothing personal until everything is dealt with and they escape from this place.

Remira considered herself weak and she didn’t dare to get herself swayed by her emotions too much in what she considered an enemy territory.

"Not now," Remira said, stopping her mother before looking toward the small pathway hidden behind the boulder, which was pushed aside by the Guard from before.

And as she was told, the path that was built by cutting through the mountains was unstable.

She could see small cave-ins where the tank had to slow down and drag its body out of it bit by bit so as to not escalate the situation.

The same was the case for the tank behind them.

"How many times have you done this?" This time, it was Robert who answered. "As the scavenger, I frequent these tunnels the most. Even then, the most I can count is thirteen times." There was no need to hide such details. However, Remira can be considered an enemy of theirs because of her Identity as a Radiant Knight.

At the end of the day, she was still the daughter of their Leader, Professor Rajara.

Sheva didn’t know what to do at the moment.

She was a warrior, an acclaimed sniper in her regiment that had killed many. But here she was babysitting a man on the verge of death.

And she felt guilty towards this man.

’He is a good man.’ She thought while looking towards Maxs who was sleeping peacefully after a long while.

But the problem was the little dwarven boy who was sleeping right next to him, taking big snores without a worry in the world.

’What is happening?’

She didn’t know what she was feeling at the moment.

On one hand, she had been thankful to the boy for saving her multiple times. Even if all those actions of his were driven by someone else. But the Boy still was in the most danger during those times.

On the other hand, she was envious of him.

She envied his carefree disposition and confidence. She wished to feel like Crow, able to sleep well without any worry in the world.

It’s been three days since the visit of her old friend Jara, and since Max accepted Crow as his inheritor, the two haven’t separated since.

The most Crow does is go back to the city to bring in some supplies, but that’s it. His focus was on something more important.

A bloodline transfer was not an easy ceremony, there were various requirements to be fulfilled along with the need for the training method of such a bloodline.

Training methods that required a mixture of body movements, breathing, and medicines. All of these three things were needed if one were to walk on the path of a Knight. It’s the only way for one to merge and grow the blood in their body, which makes them closer to their totem, awakening various abilities in the process.

Due to the nature of Thousand Face Tree’s inheritance. Most of this information was never noted down and had always been shared between the descendants through oral methods. And hence the reason why, even before the ceremony, Crow has been forced to learn of these things in the past days.

And considering his erratic mind, it was a struggle for him to get all that information in his head all at once.

’Enough.’ Sheva felt tired of feeling envious, so she walked out of the safe house.

It was cloudy tonight, making it much darker than usual.

But within the small reverberations of thunder in the sky, Sheva’s ears perked up as she heard some rustle in the trees as if someone was stepping on the fallen leaves.

’Are they here?’ She wondered, recalling the Daughter of Max who she had heard so much about.

"You people are here?" She said, aiming her weapon at the individual who came here.

You can never be too vigilant.

However, the person she aimed her weapon at was not some unknown member of Jara’s group whom she hadn’t met till now, but someone she met not too long ago. "Oh, I had expected such a welcome from you already."

It was Fahna, who came here with her butler. "Drop it down, the bullet of your gun can’t harm me."

"Why are you here?... Leave. Now." Fahna, the hateful figure who had killed many of her friends. The woman who was the closest to killing her and the woman who was the reason why her friend became like this.

If she and her men hadn’t pushed that hard that day, none of the tragedies would have happened.

And if not for Max’s request, she would have long killed her, instead of saving her.

Of course, Sheva held no threat to Fahna. "I am not here for you, I am here to take my teacher back." Fahna didn’t know how to feel about this woman. In truth, there were not many emotions toward her in her heart. Not much hate.

But she understood how much this woman hated her and it would be harder for a proper dialog to be possible. It was why she never bothered to thank Sheva for saving her life.
