Chapter 231: 4.05.4 Don’t discriminate.
Life is a cruel thing. If not for a single day’s mistake, Sheva might be living a different life, when compared to her current one.
A much happier and better life.
Trailing back to the hideout, she saw the duo silently talk with each other. Though it was mostly Max speaking some techniques while he drew something on a paper. The little dwarven boy listened to him without a sound, like a good student.
An odd occurrence to her, but she was not in the mood to watch them both.
"She is alive."
The words of her twisted old friend echoed in his ears. Putting her emotions and beliefs in conflict.
She wished to tell Max this fact, how someone would come there, bringing what can be considered his daughter to him.
Even if this Max was not like his old self, there was obviously something wrong with him. But she thought it was better to keep him in the dark. Better to be ignorant than be disappointed when he eventually finds her, or so she believed.
A kind outlook, but all these thoughts still made her guilty. A pang of guilt that had been eating away at her soul all these months since she started working with Max.
She joined him out of selfish reasons, although she was as driven over her goal as Max when she had learned more about the details of kidnappings. She still joined up with Max out of unkind intentions.
All under the behest of her friend, who promised her riches enough to live a peaceful life. All she needed to do was help Max when needed and support him during moments of danger.
’Why think so much... just get the money when this is all over and leave.’ She thought, hoping to never come back to this country ever again.
’I am too tired at this point... I also want to know what it means to have a normal life.’ She thought of her old orphanage from which she was kicked out. She thinks of children like her, thinking of using her earnings to open an orphanage of her own, where she will give hope to children like her, the very thing she lacked as a kid.
It was her way of atonement for her. The cruel life she led, was going to end where it all started.
At least, through that, there will be less misery in the world and fewer kids who would walk the darker paths, like Jara eventually did.

Remira was looking into a cell where the body of Farhad was kept.
The old guard might have appeared as a harmless tea enthusiast, but he didn’t show even a little bit of kindness to Farhad, who was soon frozen after being killed.
Of course, this time Farhad won’t lose his memories, as the Guard did his best to keep his head intact in fear of killing him. But his death still echoed in the world of dreams, letting Jester know what had happened here.
"His creation is fascinating." Remira looked behind her, there were a total of six people currently packing up notes, among which was her mother and the true body of Doctor Dinesh as well, which was much older than she had previously assumed.
His dark skin was now filled with pockmarks, with he missing a huge amount of his hair. A surprise to be sure, but Remira didn’t speak much, as she had kept a watch over Farhad’s body while her mother and Dinesh operated on him, in an attempt to understand what he was.
They took samples, as well as photos, they even took out one of his eyeballs. But before they could go too far, Remira came forward and stopped them.
Although she didn’t know what anomalies were even at this point, she knew that anything to do with Taboo subjects and Curses was dangerous. It was a subject filled with danger and no one knows what can happen when exploring it.
There is a reason why there are so few scholars that learn about Curses and if not for dealing with them, few bother to understand them.
Even among the Curse wielders, they were more focused on using it or controlling it, instead of learning about it.
The only ones who tried to understand the curse were the Exorcist, they were the original orthodox way to deal with curses before the Knights came into existence.
Even then, the Exorcists never dared to handle the Curse themselves but opted to use tools and talismans to seal them.
Showing how dangerous it was to study curses and how a slight mistake would lead to someone’s death.
And Remira’s mother had experienced such death, from her accounts, she had come close to such deaths multiple times and if not for the talismans from the Exorcist in her small guild, she would have been long dead.
"Are you sure the undead here will go to sleep after I leave?" Remira asked the man beside her, the man who went by the name of Richard and had just lost his leg to Farhad not too long ago.
Of course, the Doctor fulfilled his promise and gave him a leg from one of the sacrifices that were brought here. And it would take some time for the body to adapt to it. So he had a crutch with him at the moment.
"I am just a scavenger, so I can’t be sure. But this has happened before and we were forced to burn the remains of your ancestors."
Remira till now has learned answers to many of the questions.
There were no undead above as she had assumed before, all of them had been dealt with before and it’s the reason why the Knights from Radiance didn’t see any undead activity even with their bloodline.
As for the hollowed-out tombs, it was done by her mother. Most of the graves have already been shifted, and those that couldn’t, have been burned.
All of it was done in an attempt to calm the dead in the tomb, who seemed to hate her bloodline a lot.
Of course, she had also learned what happened here.
It turned out, the reason why her family was kicked out of the capital all those centuries ago was not the complete truth.
The Drischals were a noble clan that could detect dangerous or bad individuals and track them easily due to their strong senses. They were the perfect hunting dogs for the Royalty of the Cynark kingdom.
But after the Tomb filled with Daugrs was discovered in the ancestral lands of Drischals, they chose to go back and brought with them a group of scholars and mages at the behest of the King.
Of course, from the eyes of the Nobles, when added to the hunting activity of Drischals, it was thought that they were kicked out of the city due to their madness. But the truth was a lot different.
The Drischals and the Kingdom did their best to understand the situation inside and explore it and some mages in the explorer group even wished to weaponize it for their own use, bringing the first disaster.
Forcing the Drischals to seal the cave and stand guard, stopping any further exploration. An action that soured the mood of the Kingdom, which considered Drischal’s actions offensive.
The kingdom was never informed, instead, they were thrown out of the village, which was the moment when the silent agreement between the two sides ended.
An action that was the same as a dog biting its master’s hand. Angering the owner, who was in annoyance over their love for their pet, could only choose to isolate them.
It wasn’t that the King didn’t understand why the Dischals had done so. But the way they did, still hurt him, forcing the King to punish them.
This truth did surprise Remira though, she had assumed much grimmer things and in her mind, she had considered the Cynark Kingdom to be enemies.
"On that day, the family had long noticed the oddities of the cave and some of your family had used a direct line to inform the Kingdom of the impending danger."
Of course, although they could inform the kingdom on time, they still never fully expected the danger of the cave. They had hoped to hold in the disaster, woefully believing their strength was enough.
That was until it turned out that the Daugrs in the cave were more infectious and for some reason, her family and their bloodline were easiest to get infected.
Rendering all that strength is completely useless.
They might be able to destroy boulders with their punch, but facing a disease, they could do nothing against it and hence they were eaten away by it.
A fate that Remira would have faced as well, if not for her mother.
"Then we will see if your words are right or not, as soon after we leave, a regiment of Knights from my Hall will come here to burn this whole place down," Remira said, showing her hatred of this tomb which destroyed her family.
"I feared you would plan to demolish our little group as well. Glad you didn’t group us in with them." Richard had known the hatred the members of the Radiant church held for "things" other than knights.
In their view, anyone who plays with curses is a blasphemer, they need to be dealt with before they cause any damage to others or themselves.
"We are not a church. The thing you people are doing, our Magisters do something similar. So we are not hypocrites enough to call you out on it."
"Of course, you can’t compare to a Magistar, they have the protection of Radiance, unlike you lot that would have probably sacrificed a lot, to come this far."
