Chapter 215: 4.02.2 Lies exposed.
Remira’s choice was not as odd as one might assume in her place.
Even with the protection provided by her blood of Radiance, she has somewhat fallen for the trap of these people, while someone without any such defense like Farhad remains unaffected.
If not for his prompt, something bad would have happened. So she was thankful for his wake-up call.
And due to the very reason this man or the people in this place were somehow able to influence her actions, she made the choice to eliminate them if they came across her again.
It’s the only way to make sure they don’t harm her anymore. As for how they did it, that can be investigated later.
Or so she had thought.
"Wonderful, that friend of yours was somehow able to break free from the allure." A voice, awfully similar to Doctor Dinesh Pal. The one, whose neck bled in front of her.
But hearing this voice, Remira instinctively stabbed the body of the Doctor into all of his vitals, just to make sure it was not an act. And when she was done, she said. "There is no heart," Remira said in surprise, before asking. "No wonder you let that woman get out so freely, that confidence of yours was backed by the use of such a puppet."
A puppet that had fooled her.
This man in front of her was not alive from the start. The mortal blood she had smelled on him before was probably his own.
A freshly killed victim, made just to fool her.
"Of course, it would be foolish of me to face someone of your caliber with some distance. Because at the end of the day, I am just a mere doctor." The voice echoed in the room again, making Remira wonder what the source of this voice was. But no matter what, she couldn’t pinpoint the source.
"You, who are you and what do you want from us?" Remira asked, while her mind focused on looking for an escape route.
As for the door on the back?
She was not foolish enough to escape from that path... unless of course she uses Farhad as a shield or awakens her blood to destroy everything in her path.
Both of these can be considered killer moves for her. Farhad’s regeneration was too pervy in nature and could obviously surprise enemies who might not be ready for him. While her strength will probably scare the people here. And instead of confronting her, they might opt to escape.
None of which were prospects she wished to see pass.
Hence her act at the moment. Of course, it didn’t mean she forgot the danger this man posed to her. The very fact that she fell for his trick was proof enough of her lack of defense over whatever venue this man had mastered.
Which was why, at this moment, she chose to depend on Farhad. As it was obvious, he was either immune to this ability or at least resistant to it. She hoped he would wake her up before she made some vital mistakes.
"Believe me or not, but what I said before was true, and I truly wish to work together with you." As those words were said, Remira picked up a weird smell in the air, a smell almost indistinguishable from others, but Remira could identify how odd the smell was.
"They have deployed poisonous gasses, close your nose." A faint fire blazed on Remira’s body, burning all the harmful substances from entering her body, while Farhad nodded to her and then stuffed his nose with his own handkerchief that still had some bloodstains.
"Sir Knight, we really don’t mean no harm to you, nor your special friend. Just work with us." The voice kept pushing Remira to accept defeat, but Remira was not someone who listened to others so easily. She had a defiant nature and it would blossom during struggles.
And knowing that the way back was impossible unless she used her killer move, she looked at what the doctor claimed was an elevator. "Stop the struggle, accept defeat, and work for us. That is the only way to escape." The doctor kept repeating, but Remira obviously noticed a hint of panic in that voice as she moved closer to the elevator.
’This is it.’ She thought. If going back was not an option for her, then the only thing left was going forward. And in this specific case, going below.
With a kick of her feet, a dent appeared on the elevator door, opening enough space for her hand to fit in.
Using that opening as leverage, she pushed open the door of the elevator.
Or so she had thought.
"As I said, there is no escape. Just accept it." The elevator ahead was a fake.
No, from what she understood, this whole facility might be a fake, a piece made to lure people like her and entrap them if they were able to break free of the influence on their minds.
"Doctor Pal, the little fact about criminals, was that the truth?" Remira asked, feeling that this whole place was nothing more than a trap.
And it was then, that the doctor explained. "Of course, it’s the truth, anyone who dares to enter this place in search of riches can already be considered to be on death row."
"..."
"Were you the one who told them about this place?" Farhad asked, looking at the dead man not too far from him. But his voice, with his nose closed, came out a bit weird.
"Of course not, I am just a mere doctor, not an animal. That kind of thing was done by Gehena. Her charms are useful when it comes to such things." With these words, it was easy to see that this whole operation was much more sinister than it sounded.
The woman he had considered beautiful sounded more like the sirens from legends.
"Captain, this man, and his means seem a bit too unorthodox, how about we accept his offer and help him with whatever he wants?" Farhad said, acting in a defeated manner after hearing the doctor’s words and seeing no way out.
"The room you are in is nothing more than a death zone, either you escape after taking our offer, or face death. There is no other option left."
At those words, Remira then smiled.
"So you think." She said before moving toward Farhad, who didn’t know what Remira intended.
But before he can react, a sword stabbed his heart. Then she took it out.
"Captai...n... why?" Farhad asked as he dropped to the floor while clutching his chest. "You won’t die from such injury." She said, before shouting in the air.
"Look at him regenerating in front of you. Not just an intelligent undead, but he can regenerate from any injury as well... all you had to make sure is that his head remains, then he is virtually immortal."
Truth mixed with lies, but it was harder for others to know the truth. But that was enough.
If what she understood was correct, then the reason why she was brought here was for Farhad.
It was obvious to see the thirst in the eye of the dead puppet whenever he looked at Farhad. And from what she understood, this man was probably curious about what kind of curse was capable of creating such a fascinating undead. And hence he used Gehena to call them to this place.
Even if the contract or whatever she saw on it was catered toward her, there was no mention of Farhad on it, which obviously meant he wouldn’t be protected under the powers of the contract. And hence if she were to stop them from touching Farhad, it would have been her, who suffered the backlash.
Such a masterful play and act.
She was glad that Farhad had awakened her on time. But now, he had to help her once again.
"No response?... Just to let you know, I don’t mind cutting off his head. This young man is walking on borrowed time anyways, many wish him death, including himself.:"
A few more lies, all of it done to rile up the doctor, let him know the value of Farhad and what was to be lost if Farhad was to die.
And from what she understood from people as obsessed as him, they were pretty articulate with what they wanted and might even go mad if they lost something precious to them.
"Kill him, for all I care." However, the words that the doctor spoke next were a bit out of her expectation.
"You think I won’t do it?" As Remira spoke, her sword drilled into Farhad’s neck, who used his hand to stop her, but she penetrated their hands, before stabbing his neck, as she had claimed.
But even then, the doctor was not too worried.
With a condescending voice, he mocked Remira. "He was just a bonus, kill him. I don’t care. But then I hope you choose to work with us. Or I will use force."
There was no lies in the man’s words. He had been speaking the truth, just like before. She could see the shift in mood the moment she had aimed her sword at Farhad. But it truly looked like the man really didn’t care about Farhad that much.
Leaving only her. A Radiant Knight.
Did he want a Radiant Knight?
Remira wondered before shaking her head in denial.
There were two before and this man didn’t even budge from his seat.
Then why? She wondered.
Before coming to a simple conclusion.
"How did you find out?" She asked while taking out the sword from Farhad’s neck and then looking toward the ceiling.
"I didn’t, but it would seem the Daugrs in my lab had been waiting for your arrival for years."
