Chapter 208: 3.16.5 Epilogue 5
That little stunt that Max pulled really ruined most of the game.
Although I obtained what I wanted and got closer to my dream, I lost a good opportunity to obtain some things for my men.
It was stolen from me, out of Max’s foolishness. But no worries, even I had not expected that the tooth contained so much remembrance of that dead god. A remembrance that was trying to reincarnate into its host’s body.
Hence the reason why it went defensive and spread the corruption on the hill. It showed the taboo to the eyes that were not meant to see it. The horror of glancing at the god was too much for a feeble mind to handle.
It makes me reconsider the part of Max in my game.
Was it the right choice to choose him?
I could have chosen anyone in this city, there were many who were much stronger without all the baggage that Max carried. And the only reason I chose him was due to how interesting he appeared. His goal matched mine to some extent.
But obviously, my choice was wrong, which was pretty interesting, to say the least. His little actions have ruined the whole game and made things a bit more chaotic. And from the looks of it how most of my eyes in the city were killed in an instant, it was easy to know that entering that city was hard.
Not now, or in the future.
"When you wake up after recovering your memory, lead the rest out of the city... we are leaving."
There was so much potential here, so much to gain. But all was lost out of the hand the moment that Legend woke up.
*****
"Director Thrull, I would like to resign from the CBI." After apprehending his father and locking him up in a safe place in case something bad happens.
He didn’t know what was going on in this city. But from the very fact that his father had overlooked corruption and no one had pointed it out, it was easy to see that there were strong parties involved in this.
People who wished for whatever this project was to succeed. Which might include Director Thrull who stood in front of him.
As for his reason?
From the fact that he had apprehended his own father for this case, he probably got on the nerves of many in the government, there were already talks among lower-level officers about how his days were
Then as if out of nowhere, the Director General of the CBI called him to his officer for some personal talk. This was odd, considering how the CBI operated usually and there was rarely any direct input or orders from his head of CBI. Making him sure that the time has come.
So, before they can ask him for it, he has already readied his resignation letter.
He understood that his father would be released and he would be ousted for some kind of corruption.
A game common in the political scene of other countries, but there was a high chance that something similar might happen to him.
But to his surprise, Thrull looked at the letter and then turned to look at Red deeply, before asking. "Are you stupid?"
"Sir?..."
"I asked, are you stupid?"
"No, I just made a preemptive decision and nothing more."
Then Thrull looked a bit more deeply at Red, before smiling. "I see, you are unaware of the current state of the city." From Red’s perspective, the Director General seemed to be on some odd frequency, speaking in tongues where he rarely understood the context.
"Don’t look at me as if I am crazy... just know that your action of apprehending your father has saved his neck."
"??"
"What do you mean sir?"
"Do you remember the earthquakes from a few days ago?" At those words, the eyes of Red shined.
He was no fool, he had known the legends of cities for a long time. But considering how nothing else happened after the earthquake and how his mind had been occupied with the truths and darkness he had to face.,
Even if he knew about what these earthquakes signified, with how cloudy his thoughts were, it was impossible for him to put two and two together.
But the moment someone pointed it out, he understood.
"A bloodbath will happen in the city, it won’t be clean and loads of positions will be empty... and that’s why I called you here."
*******
This time when I woke up, I knew everything.
The events and memories that I witnessed in my dreams were real, along with the ones I experienced when I woke up.
When I opened my eyes, there was only darkness. But from the zizak~ sounds, it was easy to notice that my body was being dragged somewhere.
As for where and who was dragging me? It took a while.
I didn’t plan to make too many movements and startle my captors initially. In case they were bad, I need to use this as an opportunity to strike them when they are at their weakest.
But then from the steps, which were only for one person, then the ground that was cold and soft like the snow. There was only one person in my mind that would drag me toward the cold region.
"Captain, I am awake." There was no more reason to act, I shouted out and called out to Captain Remira. Who stopped her steps and then turned toward me and opened the sleeping bag in which she kept me.
"Two days... less than two days. Your healing has become faster." She said, looking at my probably ugly face.
As for what she meant by those words, it might mean something direct about how strong I was when compared to before. But for some reason, when she spoke, my instincts called out to me that things were not as simple as I had assumed.
"I had to, or I would have died," I spoke, before getting up from the bag, while she stood on the side next to a snow mound, looking at me as if I was some evil creature.
’Her guard is up.’ I can feel it in my bones. Even after such a long time, she hasn’t become close to me. "Captain, I know what happened there... I can somewhat control it, there is no reason to do anything else."
Her stance was odd but threatening. She appeared to treat me as a criminal, but I knew, if this was her intention, I wouldn’t have been so free in that sleeping bag.
She should have bound my hands and destroyed my head in regular intervals to keep me from standing up.
She did none of those things, it was as if she was waiting for me to wake up. Or even see what I would do once I wake up. The choices I might make, which included, me attacking her.
And as I did none of such things, she had made up her mind to listen to me, or so it seems from her perspective.
Then out of nowhere, she said. "Your death would probably hurt him." Words I never expected escaped from her mouth.
"..."
How did she know?
What did she know?
Did I expose something while I was under bloodlust?
No... that was not it. Even I learned the truth not too long ago. So how can she know it so easily?
No, there was something wrong, I had to think calmly.
It’s not like I don’t plan on telling her some truths. But considering how little her trust is in me, any of my words will be treated with scrutiny from her. Where, most of them considered lies due to how absurd they might sound.
So I chose to keep quiet on what I had learned during that dream session. I just asked with some confusion. "Captain, what do you mean?" Although my acting was not good. But my deathless state had given me a huge acting rage of always having a deadpan expression.
An eternal poker face. So my words didn’t sound too odd in her ears. And unless she had some mystical ability, it was impossible for her to know the truth.
"As I said, Jester seems to care for you a lot... he even sent some people to keep me away from you." Her words sounded filled with indignation and hate.
More than help, this little guy was more of a problem.
But it didn’t mean he would be thrown away by her.
No, he was the perfect bait.
Considering how much importance Jester held for Farhad, there was a high chance of setting up a proper trap if Farhad was used efficiently.
So she chose to make a pact.
She had finally seen the value that Farhad had for her. And it was not just the flames he carried, but his identity.
As for why Jester liked him? She was unaware.
But through what she had seen, it has something to do with the bloodthirst that Farhad shows while fighting. Even that exorcist said how I was holding Farhad back, always stopping him from reaching his potential.
The only thing she can recall doing something like that was when she stole Farhad’s kill.
So she explained her reasoning to Farhad. "So there is no need to worry, he is interested in you. He won’t be able to help from looking at you if you get close to his vicinity."
"So am I to be a bait?"
"You always were."
