Chapter 165: 3.09.1 Break out.

Hearing my words, the face of Max twisted a bit. He didn’t seem to like his next target. "Harming a child, is this really necessary?" An understandable question. From the name alone and how I identified the child as Ivankov Letzer’s son, it can be seen my target is not the son actually, just the father.

Why go and harm a child? An innocent child that had nothing to do with all of this. Or so Max wondered. And his question was understandable. Why harm a child that had nothing to do with all of this?

Wouldn’t it be better to go after the father?

"A son pays for the sins of his fathers and forefathers. Nothing odd here. And all I request is a single finger. His father is rich enough to get him a new one." I explained to him in detail, making light of this matter and letting Max understand my reasoning.

Why should one harm the innocent if they are not involved in all of this tragedy? But what one fails to notice is that the innocent grew up leeching on the misery of others, albeit out of ignorance.

His father gained attention and money through his experiments. The influence that went into the nurture of the child who never had to worry about anything. In a way, the child had grown up being drunk on the blood of the innocents. So why leave him out of the mix?

Besides, in the world of curses, traces of bloodline, bones, and body parts were needed ingredients while creating targeted curses. And the finger of the child will be much more useful in this case.

But such details are better to be kept to me and you, my dear Gods.

"What sins?" He asked me, wondering what sort of sins would justify all of this. And my answer was simple. "First time, you never asked me this question before, aren’t you getting a bit nosy?"

"I can find his father’s background on my own?"

"After the stunt, you pulled into the city? I have to reign in my men due to you. Without me, you can’t even enter one of the populated districts of the city. Do you really take me for a fool?" A simple slap from reality was enough to shut Max’s mouth.

"Tell me where he is."

"No need to hurry. First, get yourself as well as your friend to a safe spot. Let things cool down a bit, I will explain the rest of the details to you in a couple of days."

I stood under the shade, looking toward the stall where Captain Remira was speaking to some informant who worked for the Knights.

And as I was an outsider, I was not allowed to see his face, nor ever come close to him. Which was understandable.

We were currently in the City of Leshen. An old city that still believed in shaman culture, which can be considered a type of Mystic from the olden days, just a bit dirtier and focusing more on tradition, than reason.

And can be considered a bit similar to the city born under the Radiant Hall. With one sole exception. There were mages here.

This was not a city that discriminated against mages, instead, they loved them. Letting them come here and live freely as long as the mages kept to themselves. Which was a lot better than some other cities of medium size, which would prefer not to have mages walking alongside citizens.

"We are done here," Captain said, while I saw a small figure slowly disappear into the crowd. "Found a good place?" I asked her and she nodded. "Not that far from there." She felt a bit more distant than before. I wonder if it was an illusion or was the reason for what we talked about in the carriage not too long ago.

Which seems to be the case here. "Captain, can I find something for my skin in that shop?"

"Is the shade from the hat not working for you?" She asked curiously from the side and I shook my head up and down in response. "Nothing painful, but the light that does reach my skin, makes it a bit prickly. A sensation I loved at first, but now it just feels annoying."

"I will see to it and buy something for you." She assured me, but then nothing. Which made my suspicions closer to the truth.

As for what happened then, let me go into the past a bit.

"Do you know what he wanted from me?" She asked this question at the very least after multitudes of other ones. Was it embarrassment or some sort of worry? Or did she fear any sort of unknown relationship she might have with Jester? I can’t say for sure. Because I know that she didn’t have such a thing with him before.

To him, she was a complete stranger who tagged along with his actual target, the very late Magistar Hailey, who got sacrificed to revive a lost god.

No matter what her reason might be, I still chose to come forward and explain the truth to her. It was the least I could do, even if she came to hate me for knowing such details and how Jester actually looked at her.

"My words might sound a bit harsh, but I want.."

"Just answer it... as you said, there is no one here. Answer it in the most genuine way possible." At those words, I shut up. Shaking my head and with a huge sigh. "A clown, he saw you as a clown that brought him joy. The only reason he protected you was to see you struggle, watch over your antics."

"He took joy from it and nothing more. He had no other reason to do this besides that."

Lighter words could have been used here, I know this. Saying something along the lines of Jester wishing to see some chaos in Blue Lotus’ plans. But the truth was a bit more complicated as well as simple.

He just wished to watch a clown make a fool of itself wherever it went.

"Are these his words or yours?" Her voice had sounded cold at that point, and looking at it in hindsight, she really didn’t seem amused by all of this. But I had chosen to continue and speak my mind.

"Currently, I don’t know... but if you were to ask if my past self would think like that? Then probably not." This was the truth, due to the memories and emotions of Jester, my perception of Captain was not that high, I had also come to look down on her before the actual meeting.

But now that I have met her...

Hmm. I had to pause my recollection for a second, as it would seem there were people following us.

And why do you think I know this?

Of course, it’s the captain who silently notified me of their existence using her hand signals. Were they the same ones who followed me to the Radiant Hall?

No, if they were, there would be no need for the Captain to warn me. Which would only mean one thing.

"Captain, I am sorry. It would seem there would be people that covet my flames." I said, before stopping in the path and then turned to the back, looking at the few people who seemed suspicious.

And before Captain can stop me. I said. "Come out, this is your chance. Sun is out and I can’t defend myself properly."

"Won’t you try my delicious flames for yourself?" I said with a smile, not my own. While I heard the words of my captain, which went something along the lines of "Crazy Bastard!"

What wonderful words they were.

But before a fight could break out, Captain took out her blade and stabbed it on the footpath attracting the eyes of the common public. "A fight is going to happen here between transcendents. Escape now." She announced, causing panic among the common folks, who after hearing such a declaration, ran away in a hurry, while some of the shops close by shut down their shutters.

It would seem that Public safety took priority in Captain’s mind. Which was odd, why didn’t I think of such details? I should have also thought of this...

Was it selfishness? Was I too arrogant to not even notice the existence of others?"

I don’t know why I didn’t do it like a captain. But worries like that can be settled down later. As for now. I have to deal with the remaining five individuals who never went away and had started to congregate together.

"A total of five?" I asked, but she shook her head and as she deflected a bullet that was aimed at my head by catching it with her fingers, she shook her head. "A total of seven in this case." She said while checking the residue or the bullet. "These are not your friends from the government, this is just a normal bullet."
