Chapter 147: 3.05.3 Walking into a trap.
Demons, some might call them. People who destroy the sanctity of the body. Inhumans bastards, that don’t treat everything in front of their eyes as material for research. However, in my eyes, they were a bunch of curious creatures. People, that deserve the world more than anyone else. Though their radical practices won’t be looked up fondly by the future generations they would be killed in the present day for it.
But this was what drove the world forward, radicals that abandon their morals for the betterment of their own goal. The majority of inventions in the world were made in an attempt to kill your enemies anyway.
Weapons that were slowly commodified and applied to regular life. Hell, one can say that life is about killing each other in new ways. It’s what drives us, it’s what makes us do better. This is what this bunch of followers of knowledge, or scientists we call them.
Biotech engineers as well.
Oh how much I wish to reach their notes, how I wish to enter their brain and see what all of it meant, and how their little creations worked. But I had no background in such subjects and their mind was under the protection of a powerful Hex. And the moment I try to enter it, like a spiderweb, it will send a signal to the one weaving it and call them here. Which would put my life in jeopardy.
But we came too forward here, these men and their little toys were fun to explore. But my lack of understanding makes most of their words incoherent. All I could do was watch for a bit and move away from here.
However, before leaving the venue, I did see a familiar face who had come here after doing her own investigation and followed a man that she shouldn’t have. But let her do what she wants to do. I might be able to make one go mad, but I had no cure for madness. The fools would remain fools.
However, seeing that she tracked this man so close to their location, I can see how problematic it would be if she were to expose the location of this place to Max so early. This was not the time, and I can’t let things grow too big and outside of my expectations.
"I am conflicted." A headache-inducing moment for me. I don’t wish to mess with someone’s head. Their free will brings chaos, but I only allow chaos to a limit where it won’t harm my goal.
And this is not something I can easily ignore.
"Sleep," I said, causing the woman who was overlooking the transportation Dealings in the factory to suddenly become drowsy. But she didn’t fall asleep in an instant. This was not the place for that
"Go home and sleep," I said again, and finally, as if hypnotized, she removed the scope from her eye and left the scene after packing her stuff.

"What the fuck happened? Who went ahead and harmed his family?" The police chief asked on a phone call. Who was at the other end of this line, he never knew. All he knew was to shut up and do as he was told while collecting fees.
A fee that he will distribute to the rest of his men who had promised to be as silent as him.
- "The family part we don’t know about, someone in the company might have taken things into their own hands after seeing how close the detective was getting. As for who it was, I am not aware of it." The calm voice on the other side of the phone replied. But the worry remained on the Police Chief’s face, not it had turned into anger.
"I am putting my everything on the line for this... do you even know who you had fucked with? A Bastard bear... those guys are monsters when they go mad and even if Salveraz can keep his cool currently. Do you know what will happen if he learns of the news?"
- "Then keep silent about it, isn’t it why we pay you? To keep it all hush? Just say that you have sent his family for police protection."
"Many in the force are aware of the attack, some even went there personally. It’s not something that can be hidden for long."
- "Then give them the same reason, let them keep calm and wait for the Detective to revert back to his original self. It will be then that you can speak of the truth to him. Or even better, give us an opportunity and we can end his life before the need arrives."
"After your last failure? No chance. The public is already questioning why it took so long to reach the scene. Another attack like this and we will have to answer the governor. And you know how he is. The moment he smells something weird, he won’t leave either me or you alone."
- "So what do you suggest? A Knight can’t die so easily. Not to mention, one of the Bastard bears. Medical complications? Doesn’t seem to work, the blood of these Knights is too strong and a poison that might work on them will also be detected in their bloodstream."
- "Though before you give any of your stupid suggestions, let me tell you. It was your fault for not reeling in that bastard before. Your job was to keep you men in line, and you failed, forcing us to pick up your baggage. So any suggestion you give me, you have to equally contribute to it, or we can always find someone to replace you."
The voice that didn’t move a single step back, a voice that held so much authority that the Police chief thought he was standing in front of the Accursed Governor. He knew that he had made a mistake putting Salveraz on this case.
His original intention was to use this case in an attempt to force Salveraz to join his group. But the bastard had ended up investigating too deeply and was getting close to the truth. Which they can’t afford. ’Why do you have to be so good?’ He cursed.
"Put in a hit, only human assassins. The moment they kill him, the police will go in to take down the assassins. With a bit of news manipulation, I can see it working."
- "Hmm, his bare body will be a bit dangerous, but I will see who I can find. A master’s level would be perfect for this job. As for you, only bring those who you can trust. I don’t wish to experience another failure."
With that, the voice disappeared, leaving the Police chief depressed and tired after the talks. ’What have I dragged myself into.’ He thought, before picking up the photo of his family that was on the side of his table. He knew that the moment the truth got out, there would be no place for him in this world, neither for his family.
They would have to escape from this place if they plan to live. "Yes, it might work." With some thoughts, he came up with an idea, a brilliant idea that would give him a sense of security, while also achieving what he planned to achieve. Which was the end of Nosy Salveraz.

"I have someone from my family in that hospital room, this is my ID card." Though Fahna’s words sounded absurd she was a human. But the moment the officer picked up her Identity card, he nodded his head as if understanding something. "Detective had talked about your father before, I am finally glad to meet Miss Fahna Maisel."
"I would have said the same Offi.. Officer Gaitoynde, but circumstances force me into a blue mood."
"I understand madam, but I would apologize if this seems a bit insensitive. But we can’t allow you to meet the Detective. Ignoring his medical condition. His blood is the problem. I wonder if you know his lineage?"
The officer asked Fahna, who nodded in response. "Then there is no need to explain, he is sleeping after getting sedatives and would remain in that state until he reverts back to his original size."
"He turned Berserk?"
"We broke some bones, but many in the department were able to capture him before he caused any serious damage."
"Glad that no one was hurt too badly, I have heard the tales of Detective Salveraz when he used to go mad on the battlefield. Even my father was scared of him." There was sarcasm in her voice and a hint of mockery. Did these stupid police officers truly believe that they would ever hope to capture a berserk Salveraz?
Even her father used to stay away from the battlefield where Salveraz was active. As in his own words. "I detest gore."
He burned his victims, giving them a quick death. But the majority of the victims of Salveraz didn’t have the same luxury. In his rage, as long as the enemy is incapacitated, he would change his target. Leaving his victims limbless gutless or even brainless...
If there was a monster on the battlefield, it was Salveraz.
It’s why the claims of these men sounded so comical to Fahna, she just smiled and nodded and then left in disappointment. Officer Gaitoynde called the Police chief, informing him of who just come.
"Put some men behind her. She had met with Salveraz in the Gutters once, she might know something."
The fools, unaware of the danger that they were walking to, bravely started to track the woman that even I hated with some passion.
