Chapter 135: 3.02.04 A Curious plan.

"Don’t worry, his eyes will be yours and the names will be mine." These arrogant words from a man who could barely harm them without going for the weak points of a person.

But that arrogance was pretty sound and backed up by his skillset made him a threat anywhere he went.

I would even call him a precise killing machine, born for the sole purpose of assassination.

He was a man that has forged his weak body efficiently, focusing more on utility over form. And due to the last few months of constant practice in a bid to hunt down his daughter’s killers. He had become better.

Revenge is the strongest emotion known to humans, it drives them to do impossible feats and sometimes, they succeed at it as well.

The same was true for this man. Although he didn’t appear to be as broken as someone should be in his position, the very fact that he now lives for the sole purpose of revenge was proof enough of his desires.

So Max rushed toward the last dwarf, the dwarf that was meant as his target.

"Of course, you are dead as well... can’t depend on anyone these days." The dwarf was annoyed, before seeing that not only his bodyguard, but even the two of the tires were flat as well. Obviously shot or stabbed by his enemies.

Though none of it mattered, the car would still work fine as long as the engine was not messed up. So he entered the driver’s seat, saving himself from the sniper shots that were more like a bee sting to most parts of his body, besides his head, which was dangerous after being doused by the acid before.

Making him regret not buying better armor plates for his armor. But it was too late already nor was it time to regret at that moment. He needs to survive this first while hoping his other companion can buy some time for him.

"Start..." He said, annoyed by the sounds of bullets that had started to aim at the bonnet which hid the engine under it. Though he was lucky that it was made out of a light but strong alloy, hence only experienced a bit of dent and nothing more.

However, who knows if a bullet gets lucky?

Anything can happen.

Or so he thought, which forced his attempt to start his car stronger. And all his curses turned useful, as with a thundering roar, the engine started. Following the sounds of bullets also stopped. ’Is he out?’ He thought, before shaking his head.

It didn’t matter if the enemy was out of bullets, there was also that slippery snake that posed a danger to him. And besides, it’s better to live to tell the tale another day, than die here in an attempt to seek revenge.

So he put his feet on the accelerator, causing the engine to roar and roar. Roar so loudly that it almost felt weird to him.

For there was no smoke and the car started to drag forward albeit with flat tires. The mind of the dwarf suddenly turned calm.

But before he could finally escape, the front of his bonnet exploded causing the glass windshield to shatter.

"Fuck... what happened?" Everything was fine, he was close to escape. But what happened?

Did the bastard set up a trap?

Was he fooled?"

Regret after regret, a regret stopped by a sound of drink that shattered the armor on the left side of his head, as a blade tried to inch in closer and directly to the scalp of the dwarf.

But whether this was an instinct or luck. At this moment of death, the dwarf finally showed some skills, his hand grabbed Max’s arm before they could go in deeper. "Not as slippery as before, you bastard." With a tightening of his grip, the dwarf broke his hand faster than Max could drag it out.

"I was just doing a JOB!" The dwarf broke the door and walked out, looking at the human who just ruined this night’s collection. "You should have let me go."

Anger and frustration were written all over the Dwarf’s face, he just wanted to escape from here, but this human has forced him. There is also no need to keep up with the act, killing this bastard took priority.

So with a thought, the body of the dwarf started to grow in size, as the exposed part of his skin grew out of scales.

*Bang

Before the dwarf could complete his transformation, a bullet struck him right in the part exposed by Max’s dagger. Making the giant dwarf stagger, Max, who had backed off due to his broken arm, dashed toward the dwarf, giving a kick to its legs.

Making that stagger turn into a fall.

But Max was not over yet. "Don’t shoot him anymore." The pain in the arm didn’t matter to him. Getting on top of the dwarf whose mind was in chaos and barely able to stay awake, Max used the back of his dagger to smash at the head of the dwarf.

He smashed it once, then twice, and then he kept repeating till the weakened armor crumbled, exposing a face covered in reptilian scales. "A draconian." Silent for a while. In a way, Max has learned who he was facing. Who was backing these people and who was leading this whole operation?

But this was no time for such thoughts. "You bastard, you will regret it... we will come for you... your family."

The dwarf threatened in his delirium. Unaware of his position while putting his words in his emotions.

"Then come, I will be waiting for all of you." With these words, the knife came down, and an eye was added to my collection.

Escape became important after it, the police were on our tails for a while, but they were easier to deal with.

The troubling part was our new partner.

"I was sure she was here," I say to Max in his ears.

"She?"

"Yes, a woman not that old."

"Are you sure she was here?"

"Those clothes are my proof, she probably used those to fool me," I say, and Max follows up and sees the clothes that seemed too big for even him.

"??"

Confused for a bit, he soon for an answer, as a bullet was fired at his feet. "Speak your name, how did you find me?’

"We fought together with such synergy against the same foe, can’t I get a good greeting in return?" Max smiled, picking up the bullet. "So I was right, these are handmade stuff. I can see some production errors on these bullets."

"I asked, who are you?"

"No need to be so guarded, I am just a father seeking revenge and I believe you are probably the same?" Max smiled as he spoke to the woman that towered over him. She looked more manly and stronger than Max, and if not for the lack of vitality signifying that she was just a normal human.

He would have thought that the woman belonged to someone with titan blood in her. Or a knight of similar lineage.

"I believe she is from a powerful bloodline, just never got picked up by someone who could teach her," I spoke the words that Max wanted to hear. It was my way of confirming his suspicions.

"... I am Sheba, A retired soldier from the army of Yethel. I came here with a friend. A friend that disappeared after meeting up with those dwarves."

"And I am Max, I was out on business when they got my daughter. So I believe we have much in common here." Max was fluent while talking to her, not showing any weakness that he was prone to showing in front of me.

An act to establish hierarchy, he was letting her know her place by being forceful, while also appearing friendly. All kinds of manipulation to make her put down her guard.

"I believe the same... I liked the way you fought."

"If I had fought perfectly, this hand of mine wouldn’t be broken."

"..."

"Come with me, I have some balm with me."

"Of course, but before that. I want to know something." Max asked, before adopting a serious look on his face. "Do you know who those men are?"

"No, all I know is that there are some dwarfs recruiting people and then they disappear," Sheba spoke, before pointing out. "But it seems you know the answer?"

"The answer is not good. It would be better to talk about it in a safe place than this." Max was annoyed by what he had found. Sheba belonging to another country’s army might not know this.

But him being an assassin, he had a habit of learning all the details of every place he visited. And it was due to this, he understood what the bloodline of that dwarf signified.

’A dragon turned into a snake.’

The disaster and damage to the prestige of the government of Bothal if this were to get out would be immense.

’Good... let them suffer.’ It was then that he smiled. A curious plan formed in his mind.
