Chapter 133: 3.02.3 Time to end them.
A simple gamble, a gift in a way. This was what my challenge was about. A way to give this man a prize unlike any other. A prize of hope, which let him feel as if he was in control of his destiny. A kind gesture on my front to the man who had to steal the eye of an adept knight.
Which was really hard as he was adept as well. And not the kind who is good at strength, direct confrontation was impossible for this man. He was too weak for it. So I always found it amusing how he used the area to his advantage.
Wearing dark clothes that meld into the night, he kept his eye on the target. A stubby dwarf whose age was hard to pinpoint due to the beard that covered his face. But the two guards behind him along with a car was proof enough that the man was not simple.
Making many of the workers that were leaving the factory, maintain some distance. Of course, with some exceptions.
There were those, that broke away from the group and then approached the dwarf, with some apprehension. And when they spoke, they spoke along the lines of. "How much would the job pay?" The dwarf was the transporter in his work, the one responsible for bringing them ’in’. Many brokers were active in the city looking for desperate people who might fall for their simple tricks.
And with the price of living always going up here, it was becoming easier for them to find new people as time went on.
Of course, the little accident caused by Max was not counted in their success.
’I have one chance.’ The two guards beside the dwarf were normal humans, but with their build and size, they were enough to easily manhandle a normal human. Giving them some edge when fighting a trainee knight.
But being an adept on the cusp of reaching the master level. They only posed little threat to him. All they would be able to do was slow him down when he attacked. Taking out the transparent crystal knife, which for some reason didn’t refract any light from the streetlight, Max was ready for his hunt.
The eye and then the next target would be for his choosing.
Or so he thought.
*Bang.
With a sound, the head of one of the guards burst like a melon, putting the few workers that approached the dwarf in shock, before they cried and tried to run.
"Stop them." The dwarf shouted to his remaining man, before he punched his chest, causing a mechanical armor to cover his body completely. "Don’t let them leave. Remember what happens if we lack products." With those words, he rushed toward the attacker, leaving the man to take out his pistol and shoot at the feet of the running workers.
"Are you people stupid?... A sniper is aiming for us. Hide behind the car." he shouted to them while taking guard behind the car. And if these workers were in their normal state of mind, they might have seen the problem with that wording. Because even a fool can tell who the targets are.
And why it would be dangerous to follow their words. But these people were not in their right state of mind. Their mind was in chaos after seeing death, fear clouded their judgment and when someone of authority provided a suggestion that might save their life, they instinctively ended up doing it.
While few skeptics would never choose to do something so stupid. But when the herd mentality sets in and the innate desire to be in a group to feel protected, those few skeptics end up following the fools. Which would result in their demise as well.
However, all of that depends on one thing. Which was if this man would stay alive.
Even before the fools can leave this group somewhere which would result in their end, a dark shadow materialized from the back of the man, causing many of the panicking workers to pause, confusing the guard for a bit.
But before he could ask what was wrong, a knife silently slid across his throat, ending his life at once.
"I would be borrowing this," Max said while picking up the weapon, and turning to look at the workers who had turned stone in fear. "Hah! These guys are bad... you guys would have probably died... so use this chance and run. Don’t fall for their sweet talks."
With those words, he melded in the darkness, following after the dwarf that ran toward the sniper, who still shot at him from time to time.

A fight in a big city would be too noticeable and would generally attract the police in under 2-3 minutes. Which was dangerous considering this was Bothal, a city with two legendaries sitting in it.
But why was it still a huge city and not every part of it was as protected? For example, the factory district that was filled with human settlements was divided by the main city by a series of mountains.
Which protected the city center from all the pollution, while leaving the production line closer to the city.
It was for this reason that such a big battle happened, but no sounds of sirens were heard till now, and considering the location, none will sound for another 10 minutes.
"Did you know of the other party?"
"No, if I did. Why would I bring you here?" Whether this man believed my words or not, I didn’t care, because if he wished to succeed in his goal, he would require my help.
And Max didn’t question me for the same reason, he directly asked."Would this disturbance mean that I would lose my chance?" An obvious question if one were to think about it in his place. It was not his fault that I made a mistake in my intelligence.
"Remember my challenge, if you can’t fulfill it, I can’t do a thing. You know how us mages uphold our contracts." Max knew that targets were rare. Till now he had only cursed three people for me and only got to kill one person who was the one that had chosen to target his daughter, making that man one of the more egregious villains in his story.
But Max wanted more, he wanted to dig deeper and destroy everyone involved. And he can only do so by following my methods.
It was why he had no choice. His feet were light as a feather, using the battle sounds to mask his own rush, he finally reached the place where the fight took place.
’A total of three dwarfs? And all of them are knights.’
The Dwarf was not alone, there were a total of three dwarfs that were generally in hiding but had come forward when the situation got dire.
The Dwarfs that fought here never dared to show their bloodline or their true abilities, they fought with their physique alone, against an enemy that had remained hidden till now, shooting them and throwing bombs at them non-stop.
’Who is this?’
More than a hitman, this seemed to be a soldier adept at guerilla tactics. Which was very odd considering the location they were in.
But due to the actions of this hidden "compatriot" Max has been able to drag out some hidden enemies, as well as targets he can finally eliminate.
"His eyes are covered with armor, are you sure?" I asked, wondering what this man was thinking.
But he just smiled, slowly inching toward his prey like some lizard, inching closer with its tongue out, ready to strike while dodging the splinters and bullets from the enemy in the dark.
Out of nowhere, the transparent crystal dagger in his hand had a sticky substance on it, a dark oil-like substance, while on his left hand, there were three vials of green substance in them.
Something fun was going to happen.
*****
A cruel world that never cares for the weak. It’s why I sought strength and joined the army. There, I was fed and taught how to kill.
And today, I was using all those skills to kill a bunch of inhumane bastards. People don’t deserve to live in this world, but somehow they were allowed to be free in it due to their strength and background.
Which I can’t accept.
I can’t let these demons roam free and let them feast on other innocents. Weaklings like me deserve to live and I would make sure of it, no matter what I have to do.
This is how I had thought and hence came to this place to hunt down the bastards. And I was close to success until the dwarf wore his armor, an almost impenetrable contraption that made him invincible.
Forced me to use all the homemade explosives and traps that I had deployed before, just to keep them in the back and hope one of the bullets went through.
And when I was on my last legs, with my supplies dwindling and death coming close.
It was then a shadow appeared from the back of the dwarfs, a shadow I first considered to be an enemy here to help them and kill me.
A shadow that looked way more sinister than the dwarfs, as if his body would change in the darkness.
But oh, how wrong was I?
And I am glad I was.
Because just now, I have finally found someone who might be able to help me.
Or who knows, they were too deep into this even before I was. They might know more than me.
They might be able to help me.
"What are you waiting for? Keep shooting." The man ordered and I followed. It was time to end them.
