Chapter 117: 2.30.5 The bizarre beast.
Insane regeneration, insane strength, and the innate ability to turn invisible and only appear as a specter.
The beast that now lurked in the darkness posed a threat to Vanessa, she could feel it in her bones that her enemy was not as simple as she had considered her to be. But why it happened, she didn’t know.
A story that was not, a hero’s journey that one reads in novels and plays rarely turns into reality in the real world. But somehow, this insane powerup from the beast felt similar to it. As if the hands of someone greater were at play.
’The reason he protected her.’ Thought Vanessa. Recalling the bastard wraith that had fooled their master to completely overhaul the plan according to his will. A plan that she along with her seniors had worked for years, modified by a single wraith that didn’t even possess a body of his own.
Being so inferior had influenced much of the aspects of their plan and from the looks of it, it was working. Which ended up frustrating her all the more. With the need to keep the beast in check, she can’t deal with Adam anymore. The man responsible for her loss of authority within the cult. And in his presence, she will always be number two.
But worry not, let him dance to his content, just like she was making this beast dance in her palm under the constant earth spells that would have killed Maisel thousands of times over.
But whether it was the regeneration or the mutation this beast kept evolving. It somehow kept it alive.
Now with three heads and a centipede-like tail growing out of its back. The beast growled at her, while two of its heads fought for supremacy, before being suppressed by the dominant third head, which was also the original.
"Just what are you?" Vanessa asked. But it didn’t seem Remira was in any state of giving a proper answer.
But if one has to call it, she was a mutant among the Knights. A rare legendary being that never lived past their first awakening. For the blood of two different higher beings would conflict and try to devour each other. Which results in the countless mutations forming up in the body.
And after a certain level, the body would reach its limit and turn to ruin. There was no chance for survival for Remira anymore. And as the conflict of blood in her body started to get worse. So did the number of odd organs and limbs that grew out of her body.
"Why won’t you die!!" Vanessa cried, surprised over what she was seeing.
The beast’s whole body now exuded fire that was colder than ice, freezing whatever it burned. A bizarre contrast shows the conflicting energies fighting in her body. Making her crazier, and more bizarre as her body twisted and became larger with time.
And finally, it was the time when the wall Vanessa had created between her and her enemy was frozen, before being turned to dust after the giant beast collided with it.
Creating shockwaves that shook the whole "Tower" where they were at. Shaking the runes that had been hiding them.
And when the beast went berserk after seeing its food so close by, it slammed its countless hands on the floor, collapsing countless pieces of the fool, and in turn, these hands finally broke the illusion formation that was hiding them from the world.
Exposing the top of the Tower to the world.

"What is that?" Faust asked, looking in the distance, far away from the control zone of the domain which was in full control of Holforaz.
And then, he knew that he had been fooled again. The perpetrators were not hiding in the buildings under the protection of Holforaz, they were far behind him, at the top of the Tower of Illusions. "Men, attack that tower." Faust currently held a giant but sleek polearm, as he was low on missiles and bullets.
As for the spells, he was using most of them to maintain his inhuman defenses. Giving him an edge against a greater enemy powered by a formation.
"Those fools." Holforaz was annoyed by the incompetence of his companions.
The reason he had placed most of the members in buildings around him was for one reason only, and it was to fool the enemies into thinking that the area currently under his domain was the point of interest they should be looking at.
A misdirection that was working wonders, but turned useless the moment the real position of the perpetrators was exposed.
Which turned out to be none other than the Tower of Illusion and Phantasm. A place that had illusion formations drawn into its very stones, making it easy for them to conduct their ritual, away from the notice of their enemies.
Though, all of it was ruined now. All the contingencies turned to dust as the very illusion meant to protect them had now been broken, exposing the truth to the whole world.
"Don’t be so happy, Faust. This doesn’t change much." Holforaz said before looking toward the sky.
"What do you mean?" Faust asked. He was confused over why this man was not panicking and instead showing such a calm emotion at this stage.
"Of course, you can’t see it," Holforaz said before turning to look at the sky. In his vision, tiny pieces of crystals flowed out of the city, towards the direction of the Tower of Illusion and Phantasm.
"The cunts succeeded in harvesting," Jester said in his feeble physical body. He might be cut away from the world of dreams, but his true nature and abilities were still active, letting him see what others could not.
"Mister, you should hurry up and listen to what Sir Faust said. I see something shimmering going toward that tower." He said to the weakest member of the Mage-tech Regiment, who after being bewildered by the sudden voice of "Farhad", chose to inform the same to the rest of his companions.
"Move, there is no need to delay."
"But what about him?... "
"Leave him here, he is the son of..." Before the man could complete his sentence, the fire rope that bound Farhad slowly unraveled by itself. Much to the surprise of the group.
Before their eyes turned to the tower that was far off in the distance. "Seems the one to expose that location was Marshall. He lost his life to achieve it. We have to go. We shouldn’t let his sacrifice go to waste."
"As for his son. The least we can do is ensure his survival. Jeremy, you are to look after him."
"Sir yes sir!"
Jester looked at the discussion between the soldiers and then he looked at Faust, who’s proud back and slowly hunched after hearing whatever Holforaz spoke. ’A good tactic.’ He didn’t know that Holforaz was part of the Blue Lotus. Which made him love the surprise even more.
But that was it, he hated the information dump that people in his situation usually did. Trying to delay their enemies by exposing their own secrets.
Secrets that consisted of 10% truth and 90% lies., in the case of reality.
However, it would be enough for one to fool someone as inexperienced as Faust.
That is if Holforaz truly understood the kind of man he was fighting against.
"You mean to say, the arrival of your god is set in stone?"
Rapid breathing, red eyes, and a somewhat bizarre smile. A smile that was still inferior to Jester’s in ugliness. But it was a smile that confused Holforaz this time. "Yes." So he answered him "truthfully" as much as he could.
"Great then... I can’t wait to see one of those legendary beings with my own eyes."
With those words, the blade at the end of his polearm started to heat up.
He was going to kill Holforaz. Before going after his men, whose sole job was to destroy that tower.
******
The Knights were not too behind the Mages, but the direction they chose to tackle this battle was different. Making it harder for Holforaz to detect their presence. Which wouldn’t have been such a problem if the defense formation still covered the whole Institute.
But with its radius decreased in size in a bid to increase the potency of its power. The Knights are easily able to ignore the attack of Holforaz and aim for the tower of Illusion on their blood alone.
And yes, there was no need for them to follow the spectral animal that Anna gave to them. They can feel a call of their blood. Something was calling them to the Tower of Illusion, a will so ancient that reverence was born in their heart.
As for the few members of Blue Lotus who were hiding to stop any unpredictable elements from entering the zone?
They were dealt with easily. The Knights moved towards the tower, leaving burning bodies in their wake.
And due to the feast on the curse of Sleep, their power also strengthened beyond belief. They never felt tired as they kept moving and reaching toward their goal.
"And when they were just a few hundred meters away from the Tower. An explosion shook the tower, exposing the top as well as a giant beast that was only visible to them due to their closeness.
"Why do I feel such an intense blaze from that ugly beast?"
One of the Knights asked. But none had any answer. All they knew, they had to help that beast and destroy the ritual.
