Chapter 114: 2.30.2 The last

The mages were a bit confused. Those who remained awake under the effect of the curse were only a few. Consisting mostly of the faculty, that were only at the adept level. As the Master level held important positions and some even owned their own tower, working under another mage was rare for them.

Even if the person happened to be an Archmage. Making it so, that those that remained awake were mostly at adept level. And didn’t even amount to a total of forty. Which was still much higher than the military, which was only able to muster up the strength of twelve adept mages, with one Master mage leading the charge.

But when the Mages, who were hiding inside their protective shield, wondered what was going to happen, they were surprised to find the steaming regiment of Mage-Tech Armor coming towards them. Releasing a steam that they were very familiar with.

"What are they doing here?" Venglebod and Holforaz were the ones chosen to stay on the academy grounds and protect the fallen mages, while Annaturam and Kassandra were the ones who went out and dealt with the people responsible for such a disaster.

It was not cowardice that drove them to do it, it was done with the sole purpose of keeping the damages to the minimum, while also being ready for any further unexpected scenarios.

It was for this reason, that the two were confused over why the regiment of mages that donned such armor were moving towards them.

And when looking further, there was a group of mages coming towards them as well, a group that had left not so long before.

But from the lack of aura and force, one can feel that the Two archmages that left with the group were not present there.

And when Faust was only a hundred meters away from the campus, Vengelbod, who noticed the face of his disciple, understood one thing. "Start the shields, he is not here for a talk." He ordered his men, making many confused at this point. But Holforaz, who had fought with the walking tank that was Faust, also understood from the momentum that Faust shows, that he won’t be stopping anytime soon.

"Something happened. I will go and speak with him." After the shield was up, ready to face a battle once again. Venglebod wondered what had happened for his student to turn against the academy once again.

Did he hate his teacher this much?

No, from what he knew of his student, he was a soulless machine filled with greed even greater than Venglebods. It was why he left the Institute as well as his tower and chose to join the Military, which would provide him as much funds as long as he kept showing results.

Which, with his talent was easy to do, and in turn produced the Mag-Tech Armors that he now wore.

It was for his reason that he knew that his student wouldn’t be making such an action on his own. So he chose to fly over to him and stop him before he did something stupid. And who knows by talking, he might understand what was going on with his student.

But before he could leave the shield, a voice from the back spoke. "You will probably end up joining him." With those words, a small noise rushed past Venglebod, shattering his series of mage shields and then causing a ding sound.

Imparting a force that sent Venglebod’s body flying through the air and crashing on the ground, destroying the road that once used to welcome the guests to the institute.

"Teacher!!" Faust cried, rushing to the side of his teacher, while his men created a protective formation around him, looking toward the mages, who were as baffled as them.

"Surprised? Well, you should be." Holforaz said, with a loud laugh, before turning to the mages who were getting ready to attack Holforaz unless he gave a proper explanation for what he did. However, what they got in response was something unexpected once again. "What are you waiting for? End them now." With those words, the shield that was covering the mages suddenly changed colors.

Then, before any of the mages could react, a burst of electricity started to fall on the mages that treated the shield as their haven.

Some of the mages, who were fast enough, ran toward the campus buildings with the intention of finding cover from the attack. But what they found instead were men, who shot at their bare bodies that might stop a couple of bullets due to their mage shield. But a hail of bullets?

No, they cannot.

"Headmaster.. What are you doing?"

"Please save us."

"Let us go... please."

The cries and begging of mages came. But they were massacred one-sidedly, it doesn’t matter their affiliation.

As long as you had stayed awake, their death was set in stone the moment their location was exposed to the enemies. As keeping them alive would only end up creating more problems to face.

And Holfaraz Akhtar, the Master of the Tower of Arcana, didn’t mind the losses. "My precious teachers and students, don’t fear death. For death is just a new beginning."

"I pray to meet you again in the next life and better circumstances of course." There was no need to keep up his act, things had progressed to this point, and to his surprise, the last card had been used as well. A card that would turn him into an enemy of the world, there would be no place for him in the world anymore.

For he would be hunted for his crimes throughout his whole life. A life that is just a transition for him. He would soon leave this body and enter a new one, a purge of all his sins and responsibilities from his old life.

It was why he was so daring over his actions now. A complete show of force that annihilated all those who had remained awake under the effect of the curse.

"The Blue Lotus truly are the scum," Faust said, looking at the dying and burning mages, who were completely helpless against the very shield that they considered, would actually defend them.

But now, this dome shield that covered the campus had turned into the very knife that stabbed them in the back. As for the man holding that Knife, it turned out to be none other than their most trusted man in the whole Institute, Holfaraz Akhtar.

Leaving the body of Venglebod, which made few mechanical sounds, Faust got up from the ground and looked toward the people hiding in the dark, aiming their weapons at them. Weapons he was very familiar with. "And a bunch of thieves."

How deep the corruption ran in this city, Faust didn’t know. But from the very fact that the head of the Institute of Magic, their Headmaster, was also working with Blue Lotus, it can be seen that there was never hope for this city to begin with.

No, it was false to say he was working for the Blue Lotus. It was more apt to say he was a very "important" member of the group since the start.

"Thievery? Well, then what is that armor of yours? I have seen the dwarves use something similar in the Pulgasiri. But not as lethal as yours."

"I adapted it, just like I adapted a lot more things." The enemy he was facing was a triple elemental mage, possessing the elements of water, wind, and thunder. Which was also the reason why Holforaz was given the name Stormglade.

For he was the storm himself and capable of changing the weather of the whole city if he willed it.

But such large-scale spells were only annoying at the level of Faust, as the bigger the area, the weaker the strength of a spell would become. Of course, there were a few exceptions.

And such an exception appeared in front of Faust. The giant shield that covered the campus had lost all its defensive capabilities, instead, it was multiplying and amplifying Holfaraz’s spell multiple times.

However, this did cause the size of the dome to become smaller than before. Much smaller.

"Hoping to stop me on your own?" Faust asked, without much emotion in his voice. But if one were to see his eyes, they would see a thirst like no other.

"The moment you step in here, you will be dead." Holforaz just needed to stay here now, he was strong enough to defend himself against any long-range sniper attacks, making the need for the shield redundant. It was good as long as he could use the power from the shield to enhance his strength.

"Is it so?" Faust asked, as if mocking Holforaz. But actions speak louder than words. "Rain down every firepower you can muster which is under the cover of that shield." He ordered his men, before rushing towards the shield which would be his death.

Faust showed a confidence that even made Holforaz wonder if Faust had some plan, or some spell that would counteract him completely.

But there was no such spell, there was nothing as Faust directly jumped into the area under the storm spell, which, finding a new target blasted him with multiple bolts of lightning, causing the surface of the armor to turn red under heat.

Making it easily possible for a human to die in such an extreme temperature.

But Faust was anything but normal.

"Haha! I thank the Headmaster. My armor is fully charged now."
