Chapter 113: 2.30.1 An unwinnable situation.

Maisel’s idea worked wonders. And he now stood in the center of the circle, using the signet ring to activate the one-time teleportation circle which would lose its function after a single use. There was no need for one to operate manually or even the need to feed it mana, it would surely bring Maisel to the real ceremony venue. Though, that was the least of his worries.

The world changed around Maisel again, he looked at the beast and then at himself. The coming fight would be disastrous and he knows that very much. Adam was a powerful mage on his own, but there were countless individuals as well as a particular woman that caused Maisel to dread the situation even further.

Who she was and her power, he didn’t know. All he understood was that her strength might exceed his and unless he used his full force, it would be virtually impossible for him to win the fight.

Meaning, there was only one option left.

With a burst of mana, the bodies of Remira and Maisel disappeared from the crusty cave and then appeared back in a place that was very familiar to them. A place that now seemed very abandoned and the ceiling that once adorned it as a crown was nowhere to be seen. Only leaving the mechanical star map that was actively keeping up with the alignment of the moons and stars.

For a moment Maisel wondered if he had come to the wrong place, but considering in the middle of the room, there was still the same old coffin where Maxim lay, while a giant magical formation was starting to lit up. He understood that he was in the right spot, even if this might not be the same place as before.

"They are here?" Adam was not the first to notice their arrival, but he was the first to speak of it. "Cadrer Vanessa, if you will. Keep him at bay. Kill him if possible, he was the one to break the contract anyway."

With those words, Adam turned around, picking up the goblet in which the flames of samadhi burned even now, and then with the goblet, he started to do certain movements that appeared as traditional dance moves.

A dance that Maisel knew, if completed, might turn the whole situation irreversible. So the moment the teleportation around his body stabilized. He rushed out of the circle. But Remira was much faster than him.

"I sense the aura of my disciple on you," Vanessa said with some regret in her voice. She felt it was a pity that her disciple lost the game so easily. "You sent her to reincarnate prematurely. Let me provide you with the same treatment." Her voice held not much emotion or anger in it. But someone who had met her before would easily be able to tell how Vanessa had lost her previous cheery attitude.

No, one might say she didn’t need to keep up that persona in front of people who, according to her, would die eventually.

But fights were never fought with words, not when the situation was so serious.

Maisel saw how the body of the woman in front of him turned into smoke, spreading through the area.

Then he felt lethargy suddenly, weakness, and even paranoia, as faces and people appeared in this darkness.

There was no figure of Remira, nor her aura visible. But this feeling of weakness only stayed there for a little second at most. The fire in Maisel’s body covered his body and then ate away at the darkness.

’It’s a curse. Massive amount of it.’ Maisel thought before a stone spear grew out of the ground and tried to penetrate his heart, but due to his earlier preparation, his fire shield blocked the attack, in return for its destruction.

"No!" It was at this moment Maisel understood what was going on, he blinked, and a fire burst from his feet and with the memory of the surroundings, he appeared next to where he thought Remira might be.

And he came to the right position.

Though, unlike him. Remira was unguarded, her fleshy body turned into a porcupine before one even noticed it. It shook in pain, stuck in its place while the blood flowed from her body.

These were not ice spears, her abilities did not affect them. No, she was completely defenseless against the attacks.

But for some reason, even after such an injury, the white fur on Remira’s body moved like flames, reaching out to the darkness. Devouring them to sustain the energy in Remira’s body.

And it was this bizarre movement that made Maisel not give up on Remira. So with a flaming sword that appeared out of his hand, he cut the spears apart, before dragging her body to a different location, earning himself some time.

"That beast, I can sense the aura of my student from her mouth. I presume this thing ate her?" The voice reverberated in the darkness, while Maisel dragged one of the spears out of Remira’s body. "She died a coward, just so you should know," Maisel said with some anger, as the flames around his body kept the darkness at bay while helping Remira take out the spears of her body.

Before backing off, he saw that Remira was capable of doing the rest on her own.

Even the rate at which her injuries healed was turning a bit inhumane. But there was no time to ask questions. He just teleported again after saying his words. While Remira with her nose found where Vanessa was hiding and started to come closer to her again.

’An archmage as well as a Curse Wielder?... No, her use of curses is too shallow. It’s more of a support.’ He thought before he felt the air around him tighten up and before he knew it. He found himself inside a sealed rock chamber.

A rock chamber, that started to twist and mold, birthing multiple spears that were shot at him once again. A situation that was impossible to get out of.

An archmage was capable of annihilating a whole district alone, their destructive power can’t be compared to a master mage who was still considered human. But due to the ritual that was happening not too far off from their position, Vanessa had to focus on her attacks more in fear of messing up the ritual.

But this doesn’t mean she was weak. No, she was far from weak.

This trap might look simple at first. But it sealed off Maisel’s ability to teleport. Fire teleport was a spell that would draw a line of fire in a particular direction of one’s choosing, before turning the user’s body into fire and then following up on the line before appearing at the spot. The only reason it looked so instantaneous was due to its application speed.

So a space-based spell it was not, like those teleportation magic circles. Hence, with the space closed into a dome any use of the spell would ultimately force Maisel to materialize back into the place.

However, there was a loophole.

When the spears were barely a few meters away from him, Maisel cast the flame teleport again, turning his body into fire before it was dragged to the ground. And then following the line, he appeared back on the curling of the dome, dodging the spears, while also in a freefall.

Which was enough, as with the walls of the dome turning thinner due to forming up those spears, Maisel summoned a blade from the hand. A blade made of flame melted the walls of the dome, before kicking them and escaping the death dome.

"Fascinating, you survived. But your friend couldn’t." Vanessa spoke from the darkness. Informing Maisel of news that was meant to happen considering the compatibility of Remira and Vanessa.

Even Maisel knew how homeless this whole situation appeared to be. He was weak and breathless. His body hadn’t done such extreme movements in a while. And with how draining it was using Flame teleport, he was feeling a bit drained. Setting in the fact that how over their heads Remira and Maisel were. How next to impossible it was for them to fight an enemy that had no apparent weakness.

It’s not even been a minute and Maisel has faced death at multiple points at this stage. Who knows how many he would come to face later?

"Miss Vanessa, I would if you would let the girl go. My master seems to like her?" A voice called out. A young voice carrying with it a cacophony of insects.

Even the darkness that surrounded the area, suppressing all noises and sight, was incapable of holding back this voice.

"Kairut, I was wondering when you would act up. Didn’t you say, you just wished to be a witness here?’

"I did and I still do. Kill Maisel if you wish to, I can see him dying in the next two attacks of yours. But that girl, she is not worth your time. Just leave her alone and it would be ok." Kairut’s reasoning at this point was simple. ’The girl needs to live through this fight.’ It was an odd order from his master before coming here as if he had already predicted something like this might happen.

But as it was with all the jobs, even if one doesn’t like it, they have to kill their heart and do it anyway.

However, before this conversation could carry on, the land below everyone’s feet started to vibrate.

And Adam, who was outside of the dark cloud, saw something come towards where they were. Something heavy.
