Chapter 101: 2.27.5 Bring him out

Varkus Maisel looked around himself, finding familiar faces all around, making him understand how much corruption there was hidden inside this city.

Some of them even included mages who hid their face under a hood, but that hood couldn’t hide the energy they radiated from their bodies.

And then in front of him was a boy that he had mistaken as a victim. Which when added to the knowledge of how Maxim had used the same boy during his investigations into the dream. He understood that they never had a chance to succeed at this point.

"At least, the injury on your arm is real."

How many were there working for Blue Lotus? Maisel didn’t know, as from the looks of it, one can even call this whole city the center for all Blue Lotus activity.

It might even be their base, making the people that stood in front of him the top brass that had been leading those terrorists to cause chaos throughout the world. But it was all too late. He had fallen into their trap and the chance of him surviving this ordeal was low.

But it didn’t mean he came here to die. He was going to take out all of these people before he went down. But before that, he needs to find a way to treat his problem and remove the effect the curse of Isolation had on him.

Just so that his son didn’t kill himself.

Not to mention, this son was also carrying the bastard that had pushed so much misery on him.

Hence he needed an answer. Even the fact of why he was called here was odd to him. Why would his enemies call him here? Why didn’t they just kill him?

All kinds of thoughts and questions, and the answer, he can only get here.

"If I didn’t assume wrong, then the injury on this hand is caused by none other than the boy you are carrying on your shoulder... well, the sleeping one at least.’ Adam spoke, knowing full well where Jester was hiding, a fact ensured by the existence of Kairut, who remained on the back, trying to appear harmless.

But Adam was not a fool to fall for his young look, not when the insect-like antennas grew out of his forehead, moving and turning as they suppressed their own energy radiation.

Which fooled most, but not Adam or other master-ranked individuals in the room, and hence all of them were on guard against him, as Kairut was the only other Archmage in the whole cavern beside Vanessa, who had taken a 2nd seat to Adam. And ignoring the force that man holds would be a foolish thing to do.

"My son had nothing to do here, you called me here for me right?" With those words, Maisel walked to the side under the gazes of men that were ready to fight him at any moment he made any suspicious moments, but Maisel just ignored these twitchy individuals.

He came to a corner and placed his son, who asked. "Father, what?... Don’t leave me!!" Scared and confused, Farhad pleaded.

The lack of knowledge of how he reached here or the series of events and people he met, all of it scared him. At the end of the day, he was a bullied student in Kairut’s magic tower. Someone who struggled socially, while lacking any true experience of hardship due to his good background.

Even in the dreams he barely recalls, all he can remember was a cage, he was a helpless beast even in those dreams. So how can they help him here?

The fear was what caused him to remain silent, and he only broke it after seeing that the only person he knew, was leaving him there.

"Don’t worry, I would set up a shield spell. As long as you remain in it, none of the bastards will ever touch you." Maisel explains, trying to assure his son of safety.

Dantalian, who had her eyes on Farhad for a while, asked Vanessa. "Should we allow him to do that? Teacher, that bastard is inside."

"Let him, if the words of the Wraith as well as Kairut hold, then the health of that boy is important to us." Maisel breaking the mental suppression of the curse was unexpected, which would make him a target harder to control. He was not as before, where his guilt would make him act out of foolishness.

Now, they needed something else to force him to act. And considering how Maisel didn’t fight them directly after coming to this place, it meant that Maisel cared for the safety of his son. While also looking for a way to get rid of the curse that plagues him.

Which gives them the opportunity and hold over Maisel.

"Fath... father, don’t leave me, not again. I feel him watching me... always."

Varkus understood who his son was talking about, he even understood the fear his son was feeling. "I am not going anywhere, I will remain here, dealing with those bastards. And when I am done with them, I will rip ’him’ out of your body once I am done with these people."

"No, no you don’t understand... I have felt this before... before I became like this." It was hard for Farhad to explain the dreams he had since childhood.

The kind eyes of the giant that always looked at him with love, were always offset by the smile of that figure which scared him. A smile filled with greed and malice, which made him feel smaller than he was.

Like a rat caught in a cage, just to entertain a monster.

"I am not going anywhere, so don’t worry. I am not leaving you again."

Seeing such a heartfelt exchange between a son and father, Adam felt nothing. Neither did anyone around the scene.

Most just kept watch over Kairut who was the most dangerous element of the group.

"It would be better to send him to sleep... the things that would happen after this, it’s not safe for someone of his age to see," Adam spoke out, causing Maisel to turn to him, as for the expression Maisel made at him. He didn’t know due to the mask.

But his words seem to have worked, as Maisel just got up after setting up a defensive circle around his son, before saying. "There would be no need for it. He has experienced worse." Maisel was in no mood to entertain Adam completely.

He won’t follow up on his recommendation. Not to mention, he can feel an innate fear of "sleep" from his son. A fear that Farhad himself might not have noticed, but from the shiver that Maisel saw, he knew that something bad might happen if he did something like that.

So no matter how great this recommendation was, he chose against it.

"If it’s what you prefer, Marshall. It’s fine as long as you follow up on our request." Adam said after looking at the ceiling, smiling as the time was coming close.

"I won’t help until you tell me how to get rid of this curse, and how to get him out of my son’s body."

"Then a contract would suffice I presume?"

"Yes, as long as you fulfill your end of the bargain."

"Of course Marshall." Turning to Vanessa, Adam with a smile asked. "Can you fetch the plan B?" The plan B here was the contract itself, in case Maisel had retained his rationality after being hit by the curse.

Which became useful now.

Of course, they would also add another line to the contract, concerning the state of his son and how to get rid of the demon that possessed him.

Considering the normal exorcism techniques might just end up killing Farhad, due to his new state of existence.

As for Remira on the side?

Maisel didn’t even look toward her once, he didn’t even notice her existence due to how feeble her energy had turned due to all the bleeding and damage she sustained.

And even if he would have known, he wouldn’t have cared after coming this far.

Maisel gave priority to his family, to his only son. He won’t let the mistake be repeated and try to act hero at this point.

As for Vanessa, she saw everything on the side without batting an eye and fulfilled Adam’s request in a subservient manner.

Which made her disciple, Dantalian, a bit weirded out by her teacher’s actions.

Though more than confusion, she barely held back her anger toward the bastard that was hiding inside Maisel’s son. But she didn’t dare to move, knowing the importance of Maisel in this whole game, as well as his strength.

She won’t be able to handle the consequences. Which is why she remained silent for a while.

Though, it won’t be long before her opportunity arrives and she can let the bastard watch as she skins Remira’s alive in front of him.

"Will this suffice?" Adam asked, keeping his eyes on Maisel’s changing expression as he read the contract.

"You are after my flames?"

Maisel asked, confused.

"Of course, you didn’t think we were after you out of anger or a sense of revenge?"

"It has always been about the flames you hold," Adam spoke, exposing the true reason why they had tried to kill Maisel so many times.

"And before you ask any more questions. I should let you know where we are going to use those flames." Adam shut Maisel’s questions off before he could even ask. As turned to his men and asked them to bring their star of this ritual.

A man that many had forgotten.

A man who barely looked alive.

A man was laid in an open coffin, which was slowly dragged out to the middle of the cavern.

"Maxim?"

"Haha! I woke up at the right time!!"
