The Ger's Contract Marriage [BL]
Chapter 90: Finally

Chapter 90: Finally

After receiving so many unexpected surprises, Xu Feng was much brighter than before. He was in a truly good mood.

He started the day off bright and early, and honestly, the entire day was filled with mixed messages from both Xuan Yang and Xuan Jian.

From lust to warmth, Xu Feng had received it all, and he was confused about what his role was in their relationship.

To be fair, they were all young. Maybe they were spicing up their love life or making the best of having a third wheel or maybe they just felt pity for him. Whatever the case, he would enjoy the moment.

Xu Feng was much more cheerful the second time seeing the Xuan family elders. Not just because they would be leaving his estate for good. Apparently, his good behavior could be bought!

The Xuan family elders had a condescending air about them, and it was clear that this entire situation was beneath their class. From the very beginning, they treated Xu Feng as if he were an inconvenience, an afterthought in their grand lives.

It was apparent that they considered themselves above the everyday workings of the rural estate as if they had more important matters to attend to in the capital.

Xu Feng, coming from a more modern era, understood that he couldn’t change the feudal society, and he had found himself in. Still, he held on to his principles of treating people fairly and with respect until they gave him a reason not to.

His dealings with Steward Wu and the older servants of the Nanshan estate had shaken his trust, but he refused to stoop to their level. Like master, like servants. Their greed and habit of looking down on others considered "below them" was learnt from their masters.

He found it challenging to understand the Xuan family’s point of view, and he didn’t want to. While he might not have the power to change society, he could still hold to his values and treat people with fairness.

As the Xuan elders prepared to leave, Xu Feng couldn’t help but feel relieved. Their visit had been a reminder of the blatant differences between their worlds and values. This was Donghua, not modern Dongmen.

The women, Lady Xuan and Old Lady Xuan, completely ignored Xu Feng as they boarded their carriage, only looking at Xuan Yang who stood beside the target of their displeasure.

This didn’t bother Xu Feng in the slightest. He really wanted no part in the backyard drama, and for some reason, he had found himself in shooting range of both women.

The only one who gave him a meaningful second glance was Xuan Muchen, who gave him an appraising look before getting into his carriage.

The man wasn’t the former head of the Xuan family for no reason. He had the wisdom to add to his years. Even with all the outbursts, and negative behavior they had received from Xu Feng, he still saw something in the young ger.

Xuan Muyang wasn’t counted in the group who ignored the new bride. He was a group of his own. It was obvious to Xu Feng now that others could see the man’s disgusting looks, they simply chose to ignore it.

Once or twice, he could be mistaken, but more than that was willful ignorance. The Xuan family and the servants were purposefully ignoring the pointed and lustful looks coming from Xuan Muyang.

If it was because he was the current head of the family, or for some other unknown reason, Xu Feng didn’t know. But one thing he did know was that Xuan Muyang was without a doubt the person he wanted to leave the most.

Old Lady Xuan wasn’t a big annoyance to Xu Feng. While Lady Xuan was rude and full of herself and her position as the mistress of the family, her trouble was less troubling to Xu Feng.

The fact that Xuan Yang stood directly in front of Xu Feng showed that even the young master felt the unifamilial look coming from his father. It wasn’t until said "father" entered the carriage that Xuan Yang relaxed his posture.

The goodbye wasn’t particularly heart warming for either side. It was mostly a quiet affair.

The departure of the Xuan family elders had Lady Xuan finally letting go of her cold façade, and she couldn’t resist one final petty remark. She called out to Xuan Yang, "Don’t bring it back with you for New Year."

Lady Xuan believed she had emerged victorious in their little battle of wills. She had never been one to conduct her arguments behind closed doors; instead, she preferred to air her dirty laundry in the open, regardless of who could hear.

Xu Feng’s frustration surged, and veins throbbed in his temple, but he refrained from engaging further. She wouldn’t play fair, not even if they agreed to keep up a façade as a family until the divorce.

It didn’t matter now. He was simply relieved to be rid of the woman. He chose to be the bigger person, even if it meant being referred to as "it" in her eyes.

Xuan Yang held Xu Feng’s warm palm and squeezed it reassuringly before addressing Lady Xuan. "I won’t be coming back for New Year. My bride and I will stay in his estate."

With all the carriages packed up, Lady Xuan, though spiteful, was rendered speechless. Old Lady Xuan intervened and spoke with her grandson, inquiring if they would both come for New Year.

"You will come to visit grandmother for New Year?" Xu Feng allowed Xuan Yang to respond, he was in charge here.

Xuan Yang didn’t need to take a moment, and immediately responded. "Not this year."

With a nod to the nearest servant, the atmosphere remained stifling, weighed down by unspoken tension, but the burdens were now on the move.

Now, with the Xuans on their way back to the capital, Xu Feng hoped to find some peace and focus on enjoying his time with his two husbands(?), housemates(?), friends with benefits(?).

Labels weren’t important. Xuan Yang and Xuan Jian had shown him more kindness and understanding than the rest of the Xuan family combined.
