Alone in his room, Xu Feng savored the alone time and looked forward to the departure of all the unwanted guests in his new estate. His outburst in the kitchen earlier in the day had served as more than enough proof that he needed his privacy.
He hadn’t verbalized his thoughts; Xu Feng was troubled by the way he felt about the servants in the kitchen. He’d been distancing himself from the feelings till now, but he didn’t want to become a heartless person who believed himself above those without immortal blood.
He didn’t have the same feelings when it came to Si, San, and Erlang. But still having those feelings at all was disturbing.
What exactly were people with immortal blood? They were often referred to as having "ancient bloodlines," but to Xu Feng, it seemed most likely that this world was slowly transforming from some sort of a cultivation world into a modern one.
This would also explain the presence of the unusual plants and animals in Donghua.
People with immortal blood seemed to have animalistic characteristics similar to demon beasts in cultivation worlds. There were likely regular cultivators here too, harnessing the aura from heaven and earth.
For all Xu Feng knew, they might be in a remote part of the cultivation world where information was scarce. And those with cultivating aptitude were few and far between.
Having read countless web novels in his 19 years of life, this world didn’t entirely surprise him...except for the egg-laying thing. That was not fun, exciting, or expected. When he had the opportunity, Xu Feng planned to learn more about the world and the fate he was saddled with.
After swiftly changing his wet underwear and setting them aside to soak in a bucket hidden in the corner of the bathroom, he felt a sense of relief. With a fresh pair of underwear and the newly gained deeds and money safely stowed away, Xu Feng was at ease.
He only needed to focus on preparing a sumptuous dinner with his newly "found" ingredients, he also needed to send supplies to the Flowering Courtyard. He’d pocketed the money and would be a good host for the next half day.
As Xu Feng stepped out of his building, his gaze lingered on the greenhouse, which no longer appeared sad and lonely. There was some activity near the door, and while he was tempted to investigate, he figured it was probably Erlang preparing the greenhouse for planting. The giant was known for his diligence.
Instead, as he made his way swiftly to the kitchen, Xu Feng paused at the servants’ quarters in the courtyard to summon Si and San to assist with dinner preparations.
Normally, they would have waited in the craft room or the living room within Xu Feng’s building. However, with his recent status change, it was more suitable for them to wait in the reception areas or other shared spaces when not in their own rooms.
After searching the girls’ rooms, and other areas of the courtyard, Si and San were found in the kitchen with the guests from the afternoon meal prep—Xuan Yang and Xuan Jian.
The two girls were helping Xuan Jian in portioning out meat from what seemed to be a sheepish animal. Xuan Yang observed the mess from a distance with a detached look on his face.
When Xuan Yang made eye contact with Xu Feng, he gestured for him to approach.
The scene wasn’t as gruesome as Xu Feng expected. It was clear the animal had been cleaned and skinned already. Most of the hard work was done, the meat was just being portioned into smaller pieces.
"Xuan Jian hunted a Ranma sheep," Xu Feng nodded in response, offering a reward to the hardworking Xuan Jian. "I’ll make something special for you tonight."
Xuan Jian flashed a radiant smile at Xu Feng for a brief moment before returning to his mission, his mask back firmly in place.
Was this some sort of apology for getting him mixed up with the psychos that were the Xuans? Probably not, but that’s what Xu Feng was going to believe.
Taking San with him—Xuan Yang trailing behind them, Xu Feng left Si and Xuan Jian to deal with the fresh meat in the "outdoor" kitchen.
Once they were in the kitchen, Xu Feng swiftly riffled through the storage to find some cooked meats, kimchi, and other fermented dishes to send to the Flowering Courtyard. He wouldn’t be too greedy since he already received payment, but he still needed Xuan Yang to lend a hand.
Not that he appreciated having the young master loitering in his kitchen...
Okay, he did. Xu Feng wasn’t sure what was appropriate to send in exchange for 500 taels of silver. He’d only been to a market once. Between him and Xu Zeng’s memories, neither had a good grasp on the value of silver.
"So..." Xu Feng gestured politely to the stack of food picked out by him and San, "Do you think this will be enough?"
Before Xuan Yang could answer, he added a bit more of his thought process for the young master. "I’ve only dined with Lady Xuan once, and I don’t know what a normal meal looks like for the rest of your family."
The offerings were generous but not overly so, including two types of meat and even some white rice, all to be sent back with a servant from the main house of the Xuan family.
"Add some eggs or another meat. That is generous enough."
With those words, the whole ordeal was out of Xu Feng’s head. Instead of worrying about the Xuan family, he could be worrying about laying eggs, the new world he was now living in, his libido, or even just having to do sex again.
All very important things. All things that deserved to live rent free in his head.
With the delivery sent out, Xu Feng wasted no time in getting to work in the kitchen. He now had a newfound enthusiasm kindled by the delicious ingredients that found their way to him thanks to unsavory activities after lunch and Xuan Jian’s hunt.
The man had hunted a sheep thing! Very attractive, too bad he was taken.
