The Ger's Contract Marriage [BL]
Chapter 64: Young Master’s Praise

Chapter 64: Young Master’s Praise

Xuan Yang and Xu Feng locked eyes. The room was too serious for Xu Feng’s liking, so he did what he did best. Xu Feng broke the silence with a question that cut through the charged atmosphere.

"Are you falling in love already? Your lover is next in line to be my husband, so don’t fall too deep; I’ll be on to my next one soon enough."

Xuan Yang’s expression remained unchanged, but the atmosphere between them seemed to deflate, the sparks of tension fading away.

"Uh," Xuan Yang cleared his throat, his gaze steady on Xu Feng.

Xu Feng didn’t want to reveal the secret hiding spots in his bed or allow a certain scent to diffuse in the room, so he stayed as still as possible.

Staying seated in his borrowed chair, Xuan Yang continued to gaze at the ger, his thoughts hidden beneath a composed exterior.

"Lady Xuan was furious," he began, letting Xu Feng absorb the new information, "you acted wisely."

Xu Feng’s initial confusion gave way to a radiant smile as he realized that his after-lunch activities should have spread to the visitors in his mansion by now. It was about time to begin preparing for dinner, and since there was no commotion, no one should have come to forcefully reclaim the food he had taken from the main kitchen.

"Thank you," Xu Feng said, a mischievous glint in his eyes and two proud dimples appearing on his bright and self-satisfied face. "What will your family eat before their departure tomorrow?"

"I told Lady Xuan I would plead with you to sell them some food for dinner tonight and breakfast tomorrow. They can make preparations for food for the rest of their journey in the next town."

Xu Feng’s smile grew even brighter, and his white teeth flashed in his ecstatic face.

"Can you spare some food for their meals?"

"Hmmm," Xu Feng pretended to think hard about the choice, tapping his chin as the other hand gripped the three deeds. "...Only because my husband pleaded with this young mistress, this young mistress has decided to sell enough for a humble dinner and breakfast for them."

Xu Feng couldn’t contain his excitement, and his eyes sparkled with joy. "It’s winter, and food is hard to come by. I’ll charge them 50 taels of silver for both meals..."

As he spoke, Xuan Yang shook his head, indicating that the price was not right.

Xu Feng, puzzled by the gesture, lowered the price. "40 taels... No, 100 taels," he tried to understand the signs and signals Xuan Yang was sending him, but it took several rounds of guessing before he finally hit the right number.

"500 taels...???" Xu Feng’s eyes widened in astonishment as he stared at the pile of silver taels in front of him. It was the largest amount of money he had seen in the month he had spent in this body.

He’d never seen the money Steward Wu got for the renovations. This windfall for the two meals was enough to leave Xu Feng’s eyes sparkling with glee.

He didn’t think he was a money hungry person, but he was wrong. Money did make the world better!

After counting the money with relish, Xu Feng confirmed that there was a total of 2100 taels of silver. Five hundred taels were for the not so extravagant meal, while the rest added up to 400 taels per month for spending money.

Lady Xuan had agreed to give them a stipend for this month, January, till April in one lump sum. Xuan Yang had even fought hard to ensure all the payment was given in silver taels instead of silver bank notes.

He knew the ger would prefer to have hard currency in his hands.

It was much more than Xu Feng had expected, considering that it had to cover expenses for guards, other servants, livestock, food, and other costs. Xuan Yang had done a remarkable job negotiating.

"That’s amazing!" Xu Feng exclaimed with sheer delight, his face beaming with happiness. "You really fought hard for this."

Xuan Yang finally smiled, and it was a genuine one that reached his eyes. "I’m sorry I couldn’t get more money. It’s very hard to extract silver from Lady Xuan."

It was clear no money was given to the ger with his betrothal gifts. Lady Xuan had been stealing money from a little ger.

"No, you did great, young master! This is much more than I was expecting!"

"Now I’m young master again?" Xuan Yang raised an eyebrow with clear teasing in his eyes. Xu Feng chose to ignore this specific question.

Xu Feng often switched his address for the man in front of him, depending on their audience. Xuan Yang could tell the ger didn’t fear him or treat him as someone with a higher ranking. He treated himself and Xuan Jian like they were all three equals.

This should have disturbed Xuan Yang, but it didn’t.

Xuan Yang then added more good news. "The other servants, including Steward Wu, will leave for the main house tomorrow."

Xu Feng wanted to do a happy dance; all his most pressing issues had been resolved in one go. ’Is this why everyone wants a prince charming?’ he mused, realizing the appeal of having someone like Xuan Yang in his life.

"Okay, I’ll get changed and come out to start preparing the food!"

But Xuan Yang’s face seemed to reflect a mix of emotions as he watched Xu Feng. The ger was unaware of the changing emotions of the man in front of him, he just wanted to hide his newfound treasures and change his underwear in peace.

"Are you going to have dinner with my family?" Xuan Yang asked, surprising Xu Feng with the question.

"Why should I?" Xu Feng responded, but he quickly changed his question to be more polite. "Do I have to?"

Xuan Yang seemed taken aback by the question. "You don’t want to?"

"No, I just want to give them enough to be fair for the price they paid," Xu Feng replied. He glanced out the window; it was already twilight, and it was time to start preparing for dinner.

"I thought..." Xuan Yang began before a softer smile took over his face. ’I thought you’d want to show your authority in front of the Xuans, given a bit of power. But you’re not like that.’

"...I think that’s a good idea. Get changed and we’ll do that." Xuan Yang stood up and headed toward the door, glancing back at Xu Feng one more time before leaving.
