Chapter 555: I Come Bearing Oxen~

Who dared enter your brother’s room? Your brother.

Xu Zeng’s rampage was still ringing in Xu Feng’s ears, and his petty was rearing its ugly head.

It would be a comical reply, but Xu Feng had already seen too many new sides of Xu Zeng in a matter of seconds. Plus, the children were still sleeping.

Xu Zeng couldn’t decide who he would stare at in awe, his brother or his nephews. Both options were not in the right place according to his memory. They both should be in the space.

BUT, there were three bodies with his blood in this room—other than himself.

Xu Feng, as an admirable big brother wanted to let his brother soak in all the information—so long as he did it quietly. The problem was that more noise makers were approaching.

"Master Zeng returned with you? Where did he go?" This was Xu San’s voice.

"Yeah, I was told he was in a foul mood, but he can’t make noise in this courtyard right now." This voice was Xu Si’s with more sass in it than Xu Feng remembered her having... ever.

"He said he could feel something strange in Blooming—" This was Xu Hu Zhe’s voice, restrained and measured, except he froze mid-sentence as Xu Si’s words reached his ears. "Why not?"

Before either girl could answer, Xu Feng walked out of the inner and outer rooms, closing both doors and dragging an unwilling Xu Zeng with him. He left the door to the main house open so he could hear anything, but he was confident Xiao An could open the doors if need be.

When he made it half past the kitchen still with Xu Zeng being half dragged along, that was when he saw the three other Xu’s. And Bai Mo?

"The children are sleeping."

...

Even this much silence made Xu Feng feel bashful. The stares he got from the three newcomers were... interesting to say the least.

They were flabbergasted. All of their flabbers were aghast.

The only movement in the space came from Xu San, who seemed to be stepping toward the main house, but Xu Si outsmarted her this time.

"I’ll watch the young masters, Lee Mo, and Lee An!" With her words out, the girl dashed for the building, leaving Xu San behind. "I need to finish some things as well!"

Xu San’s lips twitched as she frowned at the fourth girl’s retreating back. She wanted to watch the children. She’d been getting things in order all afternoon...

"Xu San, you can help me in the kitchen." Xu Feng placated her gently, "Xu Hu Zhe, Xu Zeng, and even Momo are back safely. Tonight we’ll have a bit of a feast."

Xu Feng looked around once more. He’d hugged his brother in the confines of his bedroom. Although they hadn’t had some life-changing conversation or moment, they both confirmed each other’s warmth.

Both were alive and well.

Nobody cried, and Xu Feng wanted to keep it that way.

He wasn’t that sure about his brother, but the other two newcomers were big eaters. He hoped cooking would be a good way to redirect everyone’s attention.

"It might be too early to cook now, but you all can tell Xu San and me about your journey while we prepare the feast." Xu Feng started moving, hoping the others would follow.

"It’s past 3 o’clock, by modern time..." Xu Zeng began before getting more precise. "It’s closer to 5 o’clock, the perfect time for dinner preparations."

It was still light out, but that wouldn’t be the case for long. Xu Feng and the children had slept the afternoon away, maybe he should wake them up? He hoped his first night with the twins would be a smooth-ish one.

He moved, and so did the others.

Five people moved toward the outdoor kitchen in near unison, no one saying another word.

"How is it possible I died before spending my wedding night?" Bai Mo asked no one in particular. Or maybe he was asking the gods, ghosts, and ghouls...

"We’re not dead." Xu Zeng answered in a quiet voice.

"Are you certain? I believe I may have died." Xu Hu Zhe’s voice was completely crestfallen. "I promised to protect my master and I failed. Then I promised to protect the young masters, now I have also failed in this."

This was a long string of words in Xu Feng’s opinion. Xu Hu Zhe had a lot to say, but he more often than not kept it to himself until it was absolutely necessary to talk.

"We’re not dead, neither is my brother. My nephews are also hatched. Ask Xu San." Xu Zeng seemed to have given up on both men. They weren’t dead, but a lot had happened, yet again.

"You’re not dead." That was the only explanation Xu San gave before making herself busy, moving chairs from the living room and a bench from near the greenhouse to make a seating area for the three additions.

She even moved over the children’s makeshift play area.

"I’m not sure if I can go back," Xu Feng winked at his brother, "But there are a few things for the children I would like to bring back. And that place is so hard to find things with all your treasure."

"Ah!" Xu Zeng seemed bashful. He knew his brother seemed to be talking about the space when he winked, and he had piled many things up in there.

He almost immediately felt guilty of depriving his nephews of anything knowing full well that up until a few seconds ago he also couldn’t enter their space.

What he didn’t know—well, one of many—was that the piles of stuff in the space were mostly the things Xu Feng threw in there. Most were Xu Zeng’s, but even the things from Dongmen were brought over haphazardly by his older brother.

Xu Feng smiled guiltily, but at least he had secured a helper to organize the space when they had the time. Whenever that was.

While Xu San worked, Xu Hu Zhe quickly joined her as if by habit. Xu Zeng seemed dazed, and Momo was even more lost, his eyes glazed over.

The seating was already arranged as Xu San and Xu Feng began discussing what dishes to have at their feast, and how much to cook. Xu Hu Zhe and Xu Zeng were both on autopilot, starting the outdoor kitchen stoves and carrying the heavier pots over.

It was Momo, who finally broke the strange atmosphere.

"You’re really back... and you hatched them?" He hadn’t seen the babies yet, but he clearly trusted Xu Zeng’s world like it was law. His best friend was back, and both children/hatchlings were healthy.

It was like all their wishes and prayers had been answered. It was too good to be true, but no one seemed to want to pop the bubble or shatter the glass house. But Momo knew his heart couldn’t take it again if this wasn’t real.

If all this was a dream, he would like to stay asleep like this.

"I’m back. We’re back." Xu Feng smiled and his face lit up, it was the devilishly handsome face Momo knew and loved. "We have some mountain goods, I’ll make you some delicious dishes."
