Chapter 538: Golden Child

Chapter 538: Golden Child

Who do the two babies take after?

Xu Feng sat still, barely breathing, watching the two babies sleep soundly after eating to their heart’s content.

Xu Feng didn’t even need to burp them or anything. They’d both burped—rather loudly—on their own. Would he need to burp them in the future if he gave them formula? Was this because he fed them apple sauce?

"You are so big." He whispered in awe at the two dragon cubs. His cubs. One nestled in his arms and the other sprawled across his lap.

The warmth of their small bodies pressed against him gave him a strange, almost surreal sense of peace.

Da Long, the older of the two looked to be at least nine months old in size, was cradled close to his chest, his head resting heavily on Xu Feng’s shoulder.

Xiao Long, who looked just around eight months old, was stretched across Xu Feng’s thighs, his round belly rising and falling with each soft breath.

They were big boys. Plump and healthy, with limbs that carried some weight.

Despite the hunger they’d expressed earlier, it was clear neither child had missed a beat in development. Xu Feng marveled at their full cheeks, soft and smooth, their tiny fingers curling in their sleep.

Whatever time they’d spent alone in this space, it hadn’t harmed them. In fact, they seemed to have thrived.

It’s good he went shopping, the things Xuan Jian had prepared for them were likely too small now.

These boys were growing fast, and he wasn’t sure how long they had been waiting for him. How much time had passed in this place?

The answer to this very important question was unknown, but the liquid still remaining in some of the eggshell debris gave some clues.

The jagged edges of the scattered eggshells glistened faintly in the soft light.

Yet, the boys didn’t look new to this world. They were far beyond the newborn stage but the children shouldn’t be too old. Plus there was sun—ish—in this space, and the boys skin seemed completely untouched by it.

He furrowed his brow. The space they were in was both familiar and unfamiliar. Something had changed. It felt larger, deeper as if the boundaries had stretched without his knowledge.

Xu Feng scanned the area beyond the neatly stacked supplies—past the jams and wines he had packed himself, toward a patch of greenery in the distance.

Then Xu Feng glanced over at his pile of crystal cores—the ones he’d earned on his own plus Xu Zeng’s stash he’d emptied into this space—and his heart ached. He hoped there were more somewhere...

The place where he found the two boys was just outside of the range he could reach before.

And there, a stream flowed gently, its clear water glimmering. Xu Feng smiled at the sight, relieved to know there was a source of clean water. But a thought quickly sobered him. What if the boys had crawled into the stream while he wasn’t watching?

The idea made his heart skip a beat. Thankfully, they weren’t crawling yet—or at least, hadn’t tried to.

The source of the stream was beyond his boundary, but his eyes could still see up the mountain.

He studied the space more carefully, noting the presence of tiny fish swimming upstream. It was like the space had evolved, adapting to something, maybe the children.

A small but genuine smile tugged at Xu Feng’s lips. It was a little oasis now.

Just as he began to relax, a damp warmth spread across his leg. He looked down at the culprit—Xiao Long, his troublemaker, fast asleep but unapologetically soaked through his clothes.

"Of course, it’s you," Xu Feng muttered with a sigh. Xuan Yang’s spirit was definitely alive in this little dragon. Even asleep, Xiao Long was trouble. Xu Feng released a heavy breath, his emotions bundled into that one exhale.

It was brief, but he’d seen the little one trying to eat the crystal core. The only thing that had stopped him from choking on the crystal was Da Long.

No matter what happened to lead up to this moment—minus the piss—or what would happen in the future, he had Xiao Long and Da Long. It was enough to not live without his children.

...minus the piss...

"Do I bathe you in the stream?" Xu Feng wondered aloud, looking at the clear water. "Is that safe?" Did dragon babies need boiled water? Was this a thing he should know?

Raw water was something to be cautious about, but did raw water matter in the space? Also, would the water be too cold for the boys?

"Sighhhhh," Xu Feng sighed again, this time with more drama than intended. "Why so many questions with no answers?" As soon as the words were out of his mouth, he looked down at the chubby boys, scared he had woken them up.

He’d been whispering before, but that last thought was filled with all the exasperation he was feeling.

But both little dragons remained blissfully asleep, their tiny fists twitching occasionally as they dreamed.

He was happy to be with his children—and they were his children, he could feel it even before his brain registered the truth—but he hadn’t really figured out how he was going to react to them awake. The two boys seemed a bit too intelligent for newborns.

It didn’t matter if they were hatched or born from a ger, or whatever the rules were for that world was. What mattered was if they blamed him for leaving them alone for so long. First, he left them in Nanshan Estate, and then he left them in his space...

Dad-ing wasn’t easy...

Especially the problem of peeing...

This is why they say it takes a village to raise a child! HE needed to find these little brats’ father and papa before all three of them were butt-naked in the grass!

Xu Feng put down his children reluctantly, he adjusted the sleeping boys carefully. He set Xiao Long on the ground first, a little farther from Da Long, so the wetness wouldn’t spread their discomfort.

The clock was ticking now. He needed to change them before the little ones woke up and any chaos ensued.

Moving through the stacks of items, he knew he would need to organize things sooner rather than later, but at the same time, he needed help caring for the children while he sorted things—or at least that’s what he told himself.

Rummaging through the stacks of supplies, Xu Feng found wet wipes easily, but locating appropriate clothes was more challenging. He grabbed the newborn outfits first, only to burst out laughing quietly.

"Pfft!" ’Not in this lifetime.’ He thought. The tiny clothes wouldn’t fit even if he squeezed the boys into them.

His search continued. At last, he unearthed some 9-month and 12-month clothes. Da Long would likely outgrow the 9-month size soon, but for now, it would have to do.

Xu Feng shook his head, still stunned by their size. "It’s definitely your Father and Papa’s fault," he muttered. Xuan Jian and Xuan Yang were both tall—it only made sense that their sons would follow in their footsteps.

Whoever the biological "father" was, they’d still donated some of their genes to the two babies. This was likely why the boys were so big.

Xu Feng continued his search. A pair of clothes was far from all he needed. Diapers were the last find. Xu Feng was thinking about being a Good Dad™️ when he purchased the cloth diapers, and now, he hoped he had enough disposable diapers.

He didn’t need any more pee on his legs! He had a limited amount of clothing for himself and he honestly wasn’t sure if he’d be able to wash clothing on his own.

Xu Feng realized just how pampered he’d been. When he was younger, his grandmother washed his clothing in their rural village. When he was older and they lived in the city there was a washing machine in the home for everyday use.

After traveling to Nanshan Estate, there was Xu Si, Xu San, and even Xu Hu Zhe—and even his iceberg—to wash his clothing for him. It was never something he needed to worry about.

Thinking about washing the clothing seemed easy, but everything seemed easy before you actually did the thing. He wasn’t optimistic about the practice or its theory—none of it seemed like a good idea.

Xu Feng was expecting to be back in his young master’s clothing sooner rather than later. He’d gotten used to it, and to being pampered. He just never realized how pampered he was.

Putting on the diapers for the children was harder than he thought it would be. Everything was so troublesome. There was also the added difficulty level of not waking up his two sleeping beauties.

"Pooft!" As Xiao Long released air into the grass below him, Xu Feng’s sense of urgency kicked in again.

Poop! Poop was also a thing!
