The Ger's Contract Marriage [BL]

Chapter 520: Naughty Hands

The guards were exactly what Xu Feng expected. In movies and books, guards in this kind of situation were either portrayed as upstanding and honorable—a rare minority—or they were corrupt, greedy, and prone to abusing their power.

The ones at Aran Base fit firmly into the second category.

While Xu Feng wasn’t as delicate as he had been as a ger, this guard seemed to find him particularly appealing. The man was a head shorter than him, round around the edges, and overly familiar. As two of the four guards hovered around Feng Yujie, trying to press their luck with her, this guard stuck to Xu Feng like glue.

Xu Feng had thought he might need to intervene, playing the white knight, but Yujie handled herself well. She quickly made it clear she was an ability user by surrounding herself with a light wind current, skillfully deflecting any unwanted hands that claimed to be "just doing their duty."

She scowled and handed over her bribes, yet the guards focused more on groping her under the guise of searching for injuries than doing their actual jobs.

They weren’t interested in checking for weapons or contraband. Their priorities were clear the moment Yujie, with her clean appearance and noticeable curves, stepped into view.

Despite the obvious discomfort, Yujie remained composed, a bit too calm, bordering on murderous territory. She wasn’t letting these men get the better of her, and her abilities kept their hands from wandering too far.

Meanwhile, Xu Feng had his own problems. The round guard "checking" him had grabbed at his crotch for the third time, and Xu Feng was about to lose his temper. This was straight-up harassment, and it infuriated him. He was tall and intimidating, but even that hadn’t stopped the man’s inappropriate behavior.

After they’d stated their abilities, and shown a simple show as proof, the guards reserved stance had receded. Xu Feng was a wood ability user—clearly useless in their eyes—and Yujie was a wind ability user—a little less useless, but not a serious threat...

As for the two boys, fire and thunder were awe-inspiring abilities, but they were a few heads too short to keep the guards in line without actively threatening them, and possibly getting their group thrown out of the base.

However, when Xu Feng’s guard’s hand stroked his crotch for the fourth time, the hand quickly receded with a yelp.

The smell of burnt flesh filled the area. Everyone looked over to the small boy with a unreadable gaze, while Xu Feng’s heart was in his throat.

At least Mingjun and Mingyue were spared the same treatment as him and Yujie, that was the thought that was on his mind a few seconds ago. Now, he had been saved by one of the little boys.

The strange atmosphere continued, but the other three guards did nothing to stand up for Xu Feng’s lecher, and the lecher himself seemed a bit scared. The two little half-grown sprouts were actually able to keep this group of men in line.

Xu Feng’s darker concerns seemed a bit baseless now. Thoughts like—Would they face this kind of harassment as they got older? Were they already dealing with this at other bases? His protective instincts flared, but he knew, of the four of them, his abilities were the least combat-effective.

"Haaah," Xu Feng sighed, staring down at the temporary clearance badge in his hand. They made it through in one piece.

This plastic card was proof. It granted him a day’s access to Aran Base, but it had also cost him three precious cans of food from the stash he’d collected at the library apartment.

"It’s hard to part with supplies, isn’t it?" Yujie asked, her smile gentle as if her son’s attacking guards covertly was an everyday occurrence, and maybe it was.

She was tall by Dongmen standards, but she still had to look up at Xu Feng. "The entrance fee is probably higher because of the coming zombie wave. Most bases charge less."

Yujie talked as she moved. They had made it inside the base, but driving around wasn’t an option. That privilege was reserved for those higher up the chain. Fortunately, as ability users, they were allowed to park in a more secure garage near the entrance.

Xu Feng wasn’t sure where Zhang Wei and Li Hao had parked, but he didn’t care. The farther they were from him, the better.

"We should—" Xu Feng began, intending to suggest they lay low, but then he remembered—this wasn’t their first rodeo. He was the newcomer here, and Yujie’s cautious preparation brought a genuine smile to his face.

Yujie had already draped a dark cloak over herself and put on a surgical mask that covered everything but her eyes. Even with the cape, it was hard to disguise her figure entirely, but she had done her best to be less eye-catching.

Mingjun and Mingyue were similarly dressed, both wearing cloaks and carrying small bags. In just a few minutes, they had transformed from a family of three into an inconspicuous group, blending into the crowd.

Yujie handed Xu Feng a cloak and mask as well. His height and hair made him stand out, but with these disguises, they could move through the base a bit more easily. Even if he wasn’t adding much in terms of combat power, being a tall man at least offered some visible protection for their group.

Hopefully.

After locking up the van and making sure his gear was secured in his bags—sneakily rearranged from his personal space—Xu Feng picked up Mingjun. Then, after a pause, he grabbed Mingyue too.

"They can walk," Yujie said, though the smile in her eyes hinted she wasn’t upset by the gesture. Seeing the joy on the boys’ faces, she sighed. "I’ll lead the way."

"Thank you," Xu Feng said as he followed the head honcho. He wasn’t above thanking the little Dragonborn in his arms for protecting his modesty!

Mingjun’s face flushed red even under the mask, but he snuggled closer to Xu Feng as if he were infinitely comfortable.

"Yue will help uncle next time," Mingyue whispered to Xu Feng. "Yue zapping hand on mom."

Xu Feng was a bit confused, but that didn’t last long as Mingjun clarified for his brother. "Yue was helping mom. We can only attack when they touch the no-no square" He explained as he made a square over his groin area.

"Ah." Xu Feng had no other words. He was right though. The two boys were infinitely more useful than him and were a lot more experienced in protecting their mother than they should have been.

Xu Feng was glad he had picked them up, not just because he wanted to shower them with praise. Yujie might trust in their ability to defend themselves, but Xu Feng felt overwhelmed by the sheer number of people around them.

The base seemed well-organized—at least in this area reserved for ability users—but it still made him uneasy.

The marketplace for ability users was bustling. People in cloaks, much like theirs, wandered the stalls, some keeping their faces hidden, while most others boldly displayed their squad badges.

It was clear that showing off—both abilities and affiliations—was a significant part of the base’s social dynamics.
