Chapter 507: Wine and Jam Solves All

Chapter 507: Wine and Jam Solves All

With a groan, Xu Feng rose from the stained grass slowly, almost robotically. Every movement was a battle against the pain coursing through his body. His muscles screamed in protest, but he pushed through the pain, determined not to let the throbbing aches defeat him.

He was prepared to make his way to the smallish pond which was closer to him than the distant stream. The water was cool, a welcome shock to his senses. He didn’t remember his space being as vivid as it was now, but that was a concern for another time.

... but was it?

Did his space even have a pond?

Xu Feng stripped off his bloody clothes in painfully slow motions, tossing them aside without a second thought. He was determined to strip, but his body seemed to be moving in slow motion. All the while his brain was telling him something was clearly wrong.

As he began to wash, the water quickly turned pink, swirling down to the bottom of the pond and taking with it the evidence of his suffering. How was it that the pond was like a bathtub... a modern bathtub?

Where he stood was shallow enough that he felt confident bathing even with his body being uncooperative. But something, no everything felt wrong.

His brain was working to find the inconsistencies. There were many memories of Xuan Jian and even Xuan Yang right on the edge of his brain, these were the memories he was afraid he would lose, but it still felt like something wasn’t correct.

Xu Feng was sure there were things he wasn’t remembering correctly. He at least remembered his lovers. He remembered that other him, the one that loved so fiercely, and eventually lost his life, but retained his love...

He remembered. Everything should be fine. He didn’t forget his snake or his dragon.

The process of cleaning up was methodical, almost meditative. Each splash of water, each stroke of the washcloth, was a step toward reclaiming himself. He scrubbed until his skin was raw until the scent of blood and sweat was replaced by the faint aroma of the lavender soap he enjoyed as a teen.

It was a brand of soap his mother loved and one he used whenever he was in the city with his parents. When he was in the countryside with his grandmother, there was no lavender soap, but that was okay too. He liked using his grandmother’s rural soap, it did the job.

Finally, he stood in front of a small mirror, examining the reflection that stared back at him. His eyes were tired, but there was a flicker of determination in them. He was bruised and battered, but he was alive. And as long as he was alive, he had a chance to set things right.

Mirror?

Okay, this was getting to be too much. How was there a mirror in his space? Where had the pond come from? Why was he washing off blood? Hadn’t he already cleaned off all the blood?

He remembered the men, but everything else was wrong.

Xu Feng focused on remembering the feeling of the blood against his skin. It was tacky and even a bit dusty like the blood had been on his skin so long the consistency was all wrong. It shouldn’t be so fresh and sticky against his skin.

Why was he so bloody?

The blood was from his labor...

As the thoughts barreled through Xu Feng’s mind, the facade, or whatever it was seemed to break apart, shattering into a million pieces. A sharp pain that cut through all the pain he was already feeling came to the forefront.

Xu Feng could only see white for a moment, and he thought he had finally keeled over. If he hadn’t died before, would it really be remembering his time in Dong Yang’s space that would kill him?

No, it was probably remembering his children that would kill him. He had children and he died in childbirth...

No, he was in Dong Yang’s space. He was washing in the space before he remembered. Then after that, he saw so many lives, so many emotions he had lived through...

As quickly as the thoughts came, they vanished, and with it, all the pain disappeared.

His children.

Xiao Long and Do Long, Xuan Jian told him about his two children.

When Xu Feng opened his eyes again, he was in his space again, but this time, nothing felt out of place. It wasn’t as vivid and lively as he’d imagined a moment ago. The space was as he remembered it.

It was vast and full of life, but his vision was limited. It was clear the entire space wasn’t available for him to explore. There was no pond. There was a body of water in the distance, but he wasn’t sure how long it would take him to reach it.

Xu Feng was rarely in this space. When he finally had access to it, he was already very pregnant and wasn’t quite in the mood to explore its boundaries to the fullest. Plus at that time, he was rather full with child... children, and neither Xuan Jian nor Xuan Yang would let him out of their sight long enough for that.

That thought brought a smile to Xu Feng’s face.

There were so many things he didn’t want to think about, but he did miss both of them. His Xuan Yang and his Xuan Jian. No matter what their fates had been in previous lives, in Nanshan Estate... this life in Nanshan Estate, was rather simple and filled with love. It wasn’t something he would easily give up.

The children were his first priority, they were innocents. But his lovers were next, close seconds.

There was also Xu Hu Zhe who was also always by his side, watching him like a hawk. No, he was a wild animal according to Bai Mo!

"Hahahaha!" Xu Feng couldn’t help but laugh out loud.

He missed them all. Xu Si, Xu San, and the rest of his family back in Nanshan Estate. What about Xu Zeng? How was his little brother?

Xu Feng’s laughter gradually faded as he was overtaken by a wave of worry.

The concerns of his current life loomed so large that his past lives felt like mere afterthoughts. With so many people he wanted to protect, it seemed absurd that he was now lying naked in the grass, burdened by an overwhelming sense of responsibility.

...

A pungent odor assaulted his senses. It wasn’t new; he had noticed it earlier, but the sight of the black and brown lumps in the grass was particularly revolting now. Though his memory was hazy, he was sure those unsightly remnants had originated from him—impurities from his body. This gross realization felt correct.

Xu Feng sighed, unable to look at the mess any longer.

"I have no clothes," he said flatly, accepting the reality of his situation without question. He was, indeed, without clothes. Butt naked in the grass, but at least he wasn’t sore...

"Gurgle!" His stomach chose that moment to announce its presence with a loud rumble.

Hunger struck him fiercely—no, he was starving.

His only resources in this space were jars of jam and wine...

"My jam is tasty..." he added with a hint of uncertainty, trying to find some sort of comfort in the absurdity of his current situation.

He had no clothes, but he did have jam and jui—wine.
