The Ger's Contract Marriage [BL] -
Chapter 478: Psycho
Chapter 478: Psycho
Xu Hu Zhe’s heart clenched with a mixture of relief and dread. It was unsettling to find the carriage abandoned in such a manner, and he couldn’t shake the feeling that something was deeply wrong.
For the last several hours, this foreboding feeling had haunted his thoughts with no signs of letting up. The sight of the carriage was of no help in this respect. Yet, at the same time, the sight of the carriage brought a glimmer of hope that his companions might still be nearby.
As Xu Hu Zhe’s eyes scanned the carriage, he found no signs of struggle or violence. The interior appeared undisturbed from his place on the ox cart, as though its occupants had simply vanished into thin air.
It was a confusing sight, one that left him grappling with conflicting emotions.
His mind raced with possibilities. If the bandits had intentionally parked the carriage here, then perhaps there had been no confrontation with Bai Mo or Xu Zeng. Could this be a stroke of luck, or a sinister trap waiting to ensnare them?
As he pondered his next move, Xu Hu Zhe couldn’t shake the memory of Bai Mo’s exhausted form, slumped against Xu Zeng’s side as they journeyed through the evening. Xu Zeng himself had been in an uncertain state, his feverish condition leaving him vulnerable and weakened.
With a sense of urgency, Xu Hu Zhe wrestled with the decision before him. Should he ignore the lonely-looking carriage and press on toward the source of the commotion up ahead, or should he take a moment to investigate, in case Da Long and Xiao Long were still inside?
The two eggs could still be hidden somewhere in the carriage even if the gers were no longer there. If Bai Mo was awakened, he could have had time to hide the most vulnerable of their group in some hidden corner.
The horses were still there obedient, but they seemed frightened as their legs shook, but they weren’t spooked to rush away into the forest. It was strange, but animals always seemed to act strangely around Xu Feng and Xu Zeng.
It was similar to the feelings he was now battling. The fear of a gruesome scene held him rooted in his spot on the oxen cart. He wanted to run and hide from the truth, but his better judgment kept him in place.
Just as he was about to make his choice, movement in the darkness caught his eye. With bated breath, Xu Hu Zhe watched as someone was emerging from the shadows, dragging two big burdens behind them.
The night remained eerily silent, broken only by the soft rustle of leaves in the breeze and the dragging noise which was much closer than the loud banging, thumping, and grunting coming from far away. The person doing the dragging was Bai Mo!
Relief flooded through Xu Hu Zhe as he realized that Bai Mo was unharmed. The sight of the fox, illuminated by the soft glow of the moons above, filled him with a strange sense of pride.
Despite the odds stacked against him, Bai Mo had managed to overcome whatever strange obstacles lay in his path. The fox looked more disheveled than he’d ever seen him, but Bai Mo was in one piece— whole and healthy!
While he was a ger, he was also an immortal blood descendant, and the fox was dragging not one, but two bodies back from somewhere in the distance.
One body was much larger than the other, both men surely weighed more than the fox, but he simply measured his breath and continued moving the bodies slowly toward the carriage.
The emotions that washed over Xu Hu Zhe were uncontrollable. He was watching the pampered young master of the Yilin Bai family, drag two unconscious bodies around, but Xu Hu Zhe couldn’t be happier.
As Xu Hu Zhe approached the figure in the darkness, calling out to him with a mixture of excitement and caution, he felt a surge of happiness wash over him.
"Momo!" Xu Hu Zhe called out, his voice a blend of confidence and restraint, as though he feared the moment might slip away if he spoke too loudly. To his relief, Bai Mo turned towards him, his red fox ears twitching in recognition before his face broke into a delighted smile.
Bai Mo’s response was a mixture of shock and delight, mirroring his own emotions, and for a moment, they were both lost in the joy of their reunion.
"Hu Zhe!" Bai Mo responded, his voice filled with happiness but tempered with a hint of caution, mindful of the noise resounding in the distance. Xu Hu Zhe wasted no time in closing the space between them, his heart pounding with anticipation.
He quickly disembarked from the bullock cart and rushed toward the fox.
As he reached Bai Mo, Xu Hu Zhe felt a surge of affection for the other, an emotion that he rarely allowed himself to express openly. Without hesitation, he wrapped his arms around Bai Mo, pulling him into a tight embrace.
It was an uncharacteristic display of affection for Xu Hu Zhe, but at that moment, it felt natural and right. Social standing, gender roles, the whole lot could be damned, Bai Mo was safe.
Bai Mo was the first to break the warm embrace, his words bringing them back to the reality of their situation. "I need to secure these two... hoodlums," he said, gesturing towards the unconscious bodies lying nearby. Xu Hu Zhe followed his gaze, taking in the sight of the two bandits for the first time.
The larger one appeared formidable, his muscles bulging beneath his clothing, while the smaller one seemed less intimidating but still a heavy burden for the fox.
"There should be some rope in the ox cart." The words were out of Xu Hu Zhe’s mouth for only a moment before the fox shot into action, bolting for the ox cart to retrieve the rope.
Xu Hu Zhe easily took over his burden, moving the two men over to the ox cart instead of the carriage. The load was much more manageable for Xu Hu Zhe than it had been for Bai Mo.
He dragged the bodies like a load of wood, no these things were treated less kindly than the kindlings he’d lugged from the Nanshan forests to the estate.
Kindlings would keep him, Si, and San warm for an entire winter, these bodies tried to harm his people.
With Bai Mo’s help, they quickly and efficiently secured the bandits in the back of the cart, ensuring that they would pose no threat to them or anyone else.
As they worked together, Xu Hu Zhe couldn’t help but feel a sense of pride and gratitude towards the fox by his side. They made a formidable team.
"The carriage?" Xu Hu Zhe finally managed to ask, his voice tinged with a hint of apprehension. He wasn’t sure what had happened inside the carriage, or what awaited them in the distance.
He held onto the hope that Xu Zeng’s body was safe within the carriage, and the presence of the immortal beast was what had agitated the horses and kept them in place.
Bai Mo’s response shattered that hope in an instant but not his fragile confidence. "It’s empty, we need to go stop Zeng!" The urgency in the fox’s voice was unignorable, his expression tense and troubled.
But to Xu Hu Zhe, it was a relief rather than a cause for alarm. If Xu Zeng needed to be stopped, it meant he was likely handling their captors with ease, unleashing the full extent of his ferocity upon them.
By the state of the two bandits bound in the cart, Xu Hu Zhe could imagine the brutality with which Xu Zeng had dealt with them. The bruises and bloody wounds were shows of the silver-haired psycho’s strength and skill in combat.
Bai Mo may not have witnessed Xu Zeng’s violence before this night, but Xu Hu Zhe had seen him confront giant beasts in the Nanshan forests with little restraint.
The immortal beast was skilled at attacking giant beasts in the Nanshan forests like they were little prey, using his vines and the plants of the native forest like his toys.
Still, even as relief washed over him, Xu Hu Zhe couldn’t shake the concern for their two littlest companions. "Da Long and Xiao Long?" he inquired tentatively, his heart constricting with worry.
Bai Mo’s response was hesitant, his confusion mirroring Xu Hu Zhe’s own uncertainty. "Zeng threw them into... into somewhere..." The fox’s words trailed off, but for Xu Hu Zhe, everything suddenly clicked into place.
The space.
Xu Zeng must have utilized the same spatial manipulation abilities as his brother Xu Feng. While Xu Hu Zhe had never witnessed Xu Zeng show this ability, he had no doubt that the two eggs were now safely tucked away within the confines of the space.
A weight lifted from Xu Hu Zhe’s shoulders, replaced by a sense of reassurance.
