The Ger's Contract Marriage [BL] -
Chapter 437: In the Silence
Chapter 437: In the Silence
After the coachman’s departure, Xu Hu Zhe wasted no time in preparing to resume their journey—they needed to get moving.
With determined strides, the coachman had walked along the path leading back to Yilin Town, leaving behind the quiet corner where they had paused.
As he stood, Xu Hu Zhe cast a fleeting glare at the silver-haired ger whose gaze seemed to penetrate his very soul. There was something unnerving about the intensity of that stare, yet Xu Zeng appeared unaffected by his own glare, lost in unknown thoughts.
Turning his attention to the two eggs nestled in the back basket, Xu Hu Zhe noted their suspicious silence. The only types of suspiciously quiet Xiao Long and Da Long were capable of involved napping and disappearing altogether.
Xiao Long and Da Long were notorious for their mischief, but now they lay peacefully, perhaps exhausted from their earlier activity. The gentle rocking of the carriage, combined with the early hour, had lulled them into a much needed slumber.
The two didn’t rest as much as they should at this stage... Xu Hu Zhe had read countless books on eggs recently, and when he had a chance, he would learn from ger dads in Nanshan Estate, and even the village below.
Despite his efforts to appear composed, Xu Hu Zhe couldn’t shake the unsettling feeling that lingered in the air. His repeated glances at Xu Zeng only seemed to intensify the strange fluttering in his chest, a sensation he couldn’t quite explain.
As he once again exchanged stares with Xu Zeng, a rush of warmth flooded his cheeks, betraying the calm face he tried to maintain. It was baffling how a simple glance could cause such a strange reaction within him.
He couldn’t chalk it up to vanity, the man’s face was covered, but he knew who was under the mask, and that seemed to be more than enough for his heart to want to remove itself from his chest.
Whatever the reason, Xu Hu Zhe found himself inexplicably drawn to the ger in front of him who was wearing his mask so well.
Taking the opportunity to withdraw his gaze as he sent Bai Mo a subtle nod, Xu Hu Zhe sensed a shared tension between them as they prepared to continue their journey.
Bai Mo’s flushed cheeks hinted at a hint of nervousness and were suspiciously red, though Xu Hu Zhe couldn’t fathom the cause.
Stepping onto solid ground, Xu Hu Zhe’s mind was already focused on their next destination – Sun Village. Their strategic misdirection from Yilin Town had been meticulously planned to throw off any potential pursuers.
Even now, their winding route in the wrong direction ensured they remained elusive, shielded from the prying eyes of those who might seek to intercept them.
In the past, such thoroughness might have puzzled Xu Hu Zhe, but recent events had opened his eyes to the hidden plots always at play.
Whether the Xuans knew the truth or not didn’t make their party less enticing. Xu Feng had a space artifact of some sort, that could infinitely store items at peak freshness. This was like a guarantor of wealth in any of the five kingdoms.
Its mere existence could tip the scales of power across the five kingdoms of Dongzhou, sparking conflicts of unprecedented magnitude.
If draught came you would always be prepared. No matter what disaster befell a family, one would have a safety net. He knew nothing much about the royal family, but this one secret of Xu Feng’s would likely even have the royalty of all five kingdoms waging war.
While Xu Hu Zhe didn’t know much about the ruling parties in Dongzhou, he did know more than he wanted to about the elders in immortal bloodline families.
Not the normal elders like grandfathers and grandmothers, but the old ones who had long passed their prime but lingered on beyond their lifespan’s limits. The old elders who seemed to have nefarious purposes for their gifted descendants.
Xu Feng had never hidden anything from him, so the raven haired man, despite being of a poverty stricken background, had several opportunities handed over to him recently and was more knowledgeable than many.
Xu Hu Zhe swiftly made his way to the front of the carriage, assessing the situation with a practiced eye. He nodded in approval at how well the coachman had prepared everything before departing, wasting no time in ensuring that everything was in order.
With efficient movements, he adjusted the reins and urged the horses forward.
The carriage soon resumed its journey, albeit in a new direction. However, their carefully chosen route to evade detection meant that their journey would be longer than anticipated, adding several days to their travel time.
Despite this setback, Xu Hu Zhe remained undeterred, instead focusing on the lack of noise in the carriage behind him.
Taking charge of the two rented horses, Xu Hu Zhe expertly guided them forward, soothing their skittish nerves with gentle words and confident gestures.
With each step, they drew closer to their destination, the wheels of the carriage turning steadily as they navigated the winding path ahead. But still, there was no noise.
...
Everyone had taut nerves and were wound tight, that’s what the silence was about...
Xu Hu Zhe worked hard to keep himself believing this narrative, knowing full well the silver haired ger in the carriage he was now driving was unreasonably strange.
Xu Zeng’s strangeness transcended the ability to switch genders, it was even greater than his strange appearance from the mysterious ’other world.’
The strangest thing about the silver haired ger who looked eerily similar to his closest friend, was the way the ger’s brain worked in the wrong way.
From kissing to ’helping each other’ to discussing marriage topics to changing one’s gender to getting so close with another Ger—Xu Zeng suddenly regretted leaving the two gers in question alone in the carriage.
He knew a lot could happen in a confined carriage. The ger with the strange brain circuit’s—Xu Zeng’s—brother, Xu Feng, had taught him that lesson...
Still, for some reason, Xu Hu Zhe found himself curious about what was on Xu Zeng’s mind.
