The Ger's Contract Marriage [BL] -
Chapter 429: This Bun Is on Fire!
Chapter 429: This Bun Is on Fire!
The little ger moved to his other hand just as Midwife Lee seemed to have common sense touch at his brain cells once again.
"Brother Min brings Xiao Momo the most treats—six. More than Brother Jun, Brother Liu, Brother Jia, Brother Jie, Brother Bo, Brother Hu Zhe, Sister Si, Sister San or Uncle Jian—"
Midwife Lee finally saw the error of his ways. He was too busy trying to make his way into Master Xu Zeng’s bed, and his child was out and about being fed by everyone in the estate!
"They all bring you snacks to eat?" He asked curiously.
Xiao An was the one who took the initiative to answer, "Yes! They bring us the best snacks! We eat candy and sugar from the famous Tang shop, bread from Din Din shop, street skewers from the tastiest vendors..."
Xiao An was now wide awake, drooling as she counted off the yummy things she got from her big brothers and big sisters.
"...We also get meat buns from Yilin Town, but we’re only allowed to share the meat buns with dad, not the sweets. Sister Si said that adults don’t like sweets, so we shouldn’t make dad sad by showing him things he doesn’t like to eat."
Xiao Momo nodded as if this was the most normal conversation, even adding in a few treats Xiao An had forgotten while Min chuckled. The two children were also pulled by their stomachs.
Lee Hua was shocked stiff.
When had his children become such gluttons? How had EVERYONE been feeding his children without him knowing?
When they occasionally brought him buns and other savory dim sum, Lee Hua always assumed it came from the kitchen.
There was now competition between the women and gers who were unmarried for Brother Xu Hu Zhe and Master Zeng’s attention, but the kitchen aunties were both married and committed to their husbands and older children.
There was no competition and especially no malice between them.
Was all this over feeding why his children’s complexions were so bright and their cheeks so full and pinch-able? Was this why they were so comfortable running around free range in Nanshan Estate, as if it were their own backyard?
"Brother Min brings back the tastiest meat too! All the meat he hunts is very delicious—seven." Xiao An nodded fiercely at her little brother’s latest addition. Brother Min was a good hunter, it was too bad he liked gers better. If not, Xiao An would marry him when she got taller too.
"UNCLE Min." Lee Hua corrected the children. He was too preoccupied with securing their place in Nanshan Estate that he had let too much slip by.
"Brother Min?" Xiao Momo looked up at Min again for confirmation.
"Brother Min is fine." The man smiled brightly as if in the sunlight his pearly whites would sparkle like a beacon to the world.
Midwife Lee’s heart skipped a beat. Even in the dim pre-sun darkness, the man’s smile was charming. But it hadn’t been charming before...
What had changed? Was a new character unlocked in his heart?
"That isn’t right. They have the generations wrong." Lee Hua continued a little more unsure of himself. "We... we are of the same generations..."
"Now you know we are of the same generation? I thought I was some young child you needed to give marriage advice to?"
Lee Hua glanced up at the grinning man with his own mouth wide open in shock. ’What is going on?’
"Brother Min has a handsome smile—eight!" Xiao Momo was still going, oblivious to his dad’s red face.
...
"Hahah," Min chuckled lowly, the reverberation and depth making Midwife Lee shiver slightly.
’What is this feeling?’ He thought. He had never felt this way around another person before. But wait...
"Who taught you such a big word?" Midwife Lee couldn’t read and wasn’t formally educated. He knew what ’handsome’ meant, but the version Lee Mo had used wasn’t the common one.
It also seemed like the two children were counting... Lee Hua looked down at his daughter, to check her fingers before looking back up at Xiao Momo’s chubby hands.
"Who taught you two to count?" This was big news, big news he had somehow missed! Who was teaching his children? This wasn’t a small thing at all, especially for a girl and a ger.
Xiao Momo seemed unimpressed by this conversation, and even scrunched up his little bun like face. He wanted to talk more about what he liked about Brother Min, and what made the man more appealing as his future husband.
It was again Xiao An who finally responded to her dad. "Brother Hu Zhe teaches us to recognize characters sometimes. All the brothers teach us new words. Some of the big brothers teach us how to recognize food in the wild and sir—why—vial skills.
Brother Min and Brother Liu teach us numbers. Sister Si teaches us how to sew small things and Sister San teaches how to recognize spices and herbs in the kitchen..."
Xiao An wasn’t done either she was still counting off all the things the big brothers and big sisters of the estate taught them when Lee Hua was busy.
Lee Hua always felt he didn’t fit in here at Nanshan Estate. He was a widow with two fatherless children in tow. He felt like he was living off the mercy of Xu Feng, but there was no longer a Xu Feng for him to serve like a cow and a horse.
When he could, he helped deliver eggs outside of the estate. When he wasn’t out, he would help in the kitchen or with laundry. He would help wherever he could to show everyone he wasn’t just an idle fixture.
Maybe he wasn’t just an idle fixture after all. Maybe him and his children were already part of Nanshan Estate.
A tear threatened to fall from his eyes, but Lee Hua caught it quickly. He was still the children’s dad. He couldn’t worry them for no reason.
This was good, it was all good. He didn’t have to climb in anyone’s bed to stay here...
He just needed to live.
Lee Hua looked at the man smiling beside him, and couldn’t help but smile. Brother Min’s smile was infectious. It shouldn’t be a confession. This was a bachelor. What bachelor would want a widow—a widow with children?
