Chapter 402: You Can’t Sit With Us
Xu Zeng’s brows furrowed deeper, his annoyance growing with each repetition of his brother’s name from the lips of the intruder, Xu Hu Zhe. The words were now echoing in his head like a song playing on repeat indefinitely.
It was the second time within a short span of hours that Xu Zeng found himself irritated by the man’s words. "Xu Feng?!" The words reverberated in his mind like an incessant drumbeat, fueling the fire of his frustration.
’Xu Feng?! Xu Feng?!’ He wanted to scream, to shake the man and make him understand that he was not Xu Feng, but Xu Zeng—ZENG! Bai Mo had known almost instantly...
Despite the raging storm of anger brewing within him, Xu Zeng managed to maintain his composure outwardly. He resisted the urge to lash out or retreat, instead opting for a measured response.
"I’m not Xu Feng," he stated firmly, his voice tinged with exasperation.
The room fell silent for a moment, the weight of Xu Zeng’s words hanging in the air. As Xu Hu Zhe stared ahead, confusion evident in his expression, Bai Mo took the opportunity to fully assess the situation.
Relief flooded through him like a tidal wave as he realized that the intruder was not Lee Hua. The fact that he was standing so closely to Xu Zeng hadn’t even registered in his mind in the middle of the chaos of the moment.
His ears twitched as he caught the tail end of the conversation, piecing together the puzzle. Clearly, this ger was not Xu Feng.
To be fair, Bai Mo didn’t know the full story like Xu Hu Zhe did. He wasn’t aware that one brother appeared as the other disappeared. It was literally one for the other.
Unaware of the full extent of the situation, Bai Mo stepped in to defend Xu Zeng, easing the tension in the room. "This isn’t Xu Feng," he asserted, his tone laced with confusion as he began to count the differences between the two brothers.
"Feng Feng’s hair is wavier," he continued, his hand moving to smooth down Xu Zeng’s straight silver locks. Bai Mo’s confidence grew as he continued sharing the obvious differences between the brothers, highlighting their distinct features.
Bai Mo didn’t stop while he was ahead, even if they both became gers, there were many small and large differences between the two siblings.
As Bai Mo’s gaze shifted downward to scrutinize Xu Zeng’s lips, a sudden realization dawned upon him. They were standing too close—far too close for comfort.
The proximity between them seemed to reamplify the tension for him alone, and Bai Mo’s brain struggled to regain its composure in the midst of the chaos of his mind. He wondered what would have happened if Xu Hu Zhe hadn’t stopped by.
"I told you I could be a ger too," Xu Zeng finally responded, breaking the increasing awkwardness that hung heavy in the room. His tone carried a hint of discomfort, his gaze avoiding the intense stare of the raven haired man.
It felt too predatory, too invasive for Xu Zeng’s liking. It was as if he was being scrutinized by a serpent, its eyes trying to pierce into his very soul.
No garden snake should be staring at him like that. He was the big bad beast! Still, Xu Zeng wouldn’t look the man in the eye again, having already endured his initial shock filled stare.
Xu Hu Zhe’s response was a mix of confusion and mild acceptance. "A ger?" he echoed, his mind attempting to process the revelation.
In a world where the impossible often became reality, the idea of a man transforming into a ger wasn’t entirely beyond comprehension. After all, Xu Feng’s existence had already shattered many ideas he had of what was possible.
Yet, there was something unsettling about the situation, something that didn’t quite add up in Xu Hu Zhe’s mind.
There was so much to the world and other worlds he had never even known of before he met Xu Feng.
A man that could become a ger? Fine, he would find a way to accept that, but why was the man who confessed to him so close to Bai Mo? Why did Bai Mo know the other could switch genders, but he didn’t?
This turn of events was almost worse. Why was it worse though?
"Master Feng, would you like to dine with the children tonight?"
As the tension in the room thickened, Lee Hua’s sudden appearance provided a welcome and unwelcome distraction.
The midwife’s question about dining with the children seemed innocent enough, but Bai Mo’s instincts kicked in, sensing an ulterior motive behind the seemingly simple inquiry.
Without hesitation, Bai Mo moved his feet, positioning himself squarely between Xu Zeng and the doorway, effectively blocking the midwife’s entrance into Xu Zeng’s field of vision.
Xu Hu Zhe mirrored Bai Mo’s reaction, moving closer to the doorway and intercepting Lee Hua before he could advance any further into the room. His words carried a subtle warning, a silent message that hung in the air like an unspoken threat.
"You can eat alone, Master Zeng will be having dinner with Master Jian and the young masters."
Even without the strength and senses of an immortal bloodline carrier or the prowess of a warrior, the implication was clear. Xu Zeng was under their protection or eye line—something. Any attempts to encroach on his space would be met with resistance.
It wasn’t exactly mean girl behavior, but it was...
There was a clear, ’You can’t sit with us’ energy coming from the ger and man working in unison to keep Xu Zeng from the prying eyes of a potential new suitor.
It was mean girl energy to the max and Lee Hua didn’t even have a chance to see Xu Zeng on both of his trips to the reception room. He couldn’t help but to ball his fists.
First, it was Master Bai from the Bai Mansion, now the tall and fit man, Xu Hu Zhe, was standing in his way. What was next?
