Chapter 401: Caught in the Act, Again! Pt.2
As the confession spilled from his lips, Bai Mo couldn’t help but wonder where this boldness had come from. Had he inherited it from his father or his dad?
Both of his parents were known in Yilin for their love and affection. It wasn’t a secret, their marriage wasn’t for the sake of bloodline or keeping up appearances.
Whether he was more like his father or his dad, it didn’t matter much in that moment. All that consumed Bai Mo’s thoughts was the ger before him.
If Xu Zeng agreed to his proposals Bai Mo would easily vow to spend his life by his side, dedicated to fulfilling all of his desires and soothing his every pain. He was prepared to shower Xu Zeng with love and devotion, to pamper him wholeheartedly as any doting spouse would.
This was so different from what he felt for Kang Han.
Bai Mo almost felt like maybe he finally understood what Xuan Jian and Xuan Yang felt for Xu Feng. The pain of losing his friend still stung, but for his lovers, that pain must be unimaginable.
Away from the thoughts of love, devotion, pain, and loss, there was also passion. Too much for him to know what to do with it.
They were so close now, their breaths mingling in the space between them. When had they gotten so close? Bai Mo could almost feel the warmth of Xu Zeng’s lips against his own, tantalizingly close yet just out of reach.
His heart pounded with anticipation, his mind dizzy with the possibility of what could be.
But just as Bai Mo felt himself on the brink of something profound and possibly life changing, Xu Zeng’s brow furrowed once again, his gaze shifting toward the doorway.
Was Midwife Lee returning at that precise moment?
The timing couldn’t have been worse, Bai Mo cursed silently and he wasn’t one to curse, frustration bubbling beneath the surface as their intimate moment was interrupted by an unwelcome intrusion.
Nothing was going as planned, but that was because nothing was planned. He a very meticulous master, and a certified fox, always had a plan. But now, he was moving more on instinct, calling on a wilder animal instinct rather than the fox’s slyness.
Before he could turn to glare at the intruder, a voice he knew boomed out. It was a voice Bai Mo knew, but it wasn’t the one he was expecting.
"Xu Feng?!" Xu Hu Zhe’s voice held more emotions than one could decipher. There was excitement, confusion, and fear all at once.
Was Xu Feng back? Yes!
The joy in the raven haired man’s face was almost tangible. The mask covering his upper face couldn’t hide his joy in the slightest. Then Xu Hu Zhe’s expression changed once again.
If Xu Feng was here, why wasn’t he with the children? That was the only logical sequence of events he could process. If Xu Feng was back, why would he stay in Budding Courtyard? Why wouldn’t he rush back to Blooming Courtyard? The place where he would be returning to Xuan Jian, to Da Long, and to Xiao Long.
The mask couldn’t hide the flat line of his lips, the smile disappearing at the speed of light, easy for the two gers to see. The scene was getting more and more ambiguous in Xu Hu Zhe’s eyes.
Was Xu Feng in an ambiguous relationship with Bai Mo? No!
How could this be?
But the picture within the small reception room couldn’t be denied.
In the small reception room, Xu Hu Zhe’s eyes widened as he took in the seemingly ambiguous scene unfolding before him. Bai Mo stood unnervingly close to "Xu Feng," their faces mere inches apart. It was a proximity that obviously hinted at intimacy, a closeness that set warning bells off in Xu Hu Zhe’s head.
In the past, Xu Hu Zhe’s presence around Xu Feng had been more of a watchful eye, ensuring that the mischievous ger didn’t get into any trouble with an extra helper around.
His previous concerns were innocent compared to the jealousy shown by Xu Feng’s lovers, Xuan Jian and Xuan Yang, who were fiercely protective of their relationship with Xu Feng. Their three ’Wild Animals,’ were cautious when Xu Feng was around Bai Mo, but for two different reasons.
Xu Hu Zhe’s worries centered more on the potential for mischief rather than blooming emotions Bai Mo might have. After all, Xu Feng had always been staunchly against such betrayal, firmly disciplining any servant who dared to cross that line.
Yet now, as Bai Mo’s hand rested gently on "Xu Feng’s" face, and their fingers intertwined on the table, Xu Hu Zhe couldn’t help but question his own eyes. What was happening here? His mind buzzed with confusion and disbelief, struggling to piece together the scene before him with the Xu Feng he knew.
And then, in the middle of the chaotic thoughts, another unsettling question arose: where was Xu Zeng? The realization struck him with a sudden, gut-wrenching fear.
Where exactly was Xu Zeng in all of this? The confusion and happiness took a back seat as an indescribable fear settled in. Was he lost in another world? By himself? Alone, again?
The confusion that had initially clouded Xu Hu Zhe’s mind now gave way to a sense of foreboding. He couldn’t shake the feeling of unease that gripped him. His benefactor was back, everything was okay again.
The two eggs would have a dad. All three masters of the Nanshan Estate would be together again. The other servants of the estate would no longer guess if Xu Feng would forever stay hidden within his courtyard.
It was good. There was no way Xu Feng would be ambiguous with another man or ger. This scene was some sort of misunderstanding, Xu Hu Zhe firmly believed this with everything in him.
But, Xu Zeng... There were monsters in the other world. The other man would be alone.
As he continued to watch the scene unfolding before him, his heart pounded with a mixture of dread and sadness.
