The Ger's Contract Marriage [BL] -
Chapter 387: He Promised What?
Chapter 387: He Promised What?
In the dimming light of the late afternoon, Xu Zeng and Xu Hu Zhe found themselves seated beside the water barrel, their expressions mirroring a whirlwind of conflicting emotions.
As Xu Zeng’s gaze fell on Xu Hu Zhe, his features contorted in a mix of shock and uncertainty. Was it confusion or anger that etched lines across his brow? It was difficult to determine in the midst of the swirling ups and downs of his thoughts.
Similarly, Xu Hu Zhe found himself taken aback by the intensity of Xu Zeng’s reaction. Had he struck a nerve? Was Xu Zeng repulsed, or was it something else entirely?
Xu Hu Zhe was a slave, or at least he had been one. They were also both men. The fact that they both missed Xu Feng was troubling, but their reactions and recent actions made no sense.
The air between them crackled with tension, their words hanging in the air like a fragile thread waiting to snap. There were so many layers of unspoken meaning.
But despite the disconnect in their conversation, Xu Zeng refused to let the matter rest. With clenched teeth and fists, he repeated his question, each word dripping with emphasis and a deliberate slowness.
"He said he would find you a mate?" Xu Zeng’s voice was low and measured, his eyes boring into Xu Hu Zhe with intensity.
Feeling the weight of Xu Zeng’s inspection, Xu Hu Zhe swallowed hard, his face flushed with embarrassment and guilt. "Yes," he admitted, his voice tinged with shame. "He promised to find me a suitable match, a ger to marry."
The confession hung in the air like a heavy cloud, casting a shadow over the scene unfolding before them. Xu Hu Zhe’s cheeks burned with embarrassment, his mind reeling with the implications of his words.
Should he explain more?
"I cant...I cant.." That part wasn’t too important right? "I’m not attracted to women... So, he said he would find me a ger to marry when the time was right."
This was normal right? Whether Xu Feng was a master, or the head of his household, finding him a wife was normal. Xu Hu Zhe’s face was burning even as he felt justified in his words.
But even as he grappled with his own discomfort, Xu Hu Zhe reached for the treasured cloth, a silent offering of comfort. He moved to clean Xu Zeng’s face while the other man remained silent processing everything he’d just heard.
...
The silence dragged on for some time, neither man commenting. In a matter of moments, Xu Zeng was cleaned up, his tears dried and his face back in a respectable looking mask as his brain turned.
Xu Hu Zhe had cleaned him up meticulously, unconsciously using his precious cloth without thinking twice.
"You won’t kiss me anymore because you want to marry the ger Xu Feng has found for you?"
"Xu Feng hasn’t found a partner for me yet," And he likely never would, Xu Hu Zhe responded silently before continuing. "Kissing before marriage is inappropriate."
They were having a quiet exchange, their voices steady and unraised. On the outside, this would look like a normal conversation between friends except that Xu Hu Zhe’s face was abnormally red.
"We’re too young to be married. A mate is for life."
"We’re too old to still be bachelors, we’ll soon be old bachelors at this rate."
Were they even having the same conversation? Xu Hu Zhe was still too embarrassed to be having this conversation with Xu Zeng. The last time the broached their interaction, it was a one sided off loading, but even now, it felt like they were speaking different languages.
"Even for a half breed," Xu Zeng caught himself and changed the address. He was going to stop hiding behind his heritage and the demon beast inheritance and speak frankly.
"Even for one with immortal bloodline, we don’t follow human timeline. With Xu Feng’s careful cultivation, you should live a longer lifespan than most other immortal bloodline carriers. It’s not natural to marry so young."
"It’s not natural for those of immortal bloodline to marry young?" Xu Hu Zhe was confused by this. He hadn’t run into many other of immortal bloodline other that Xuan Jian and Xuan Yang, who were committed to each other and Xu Feng.
There was also Bai Mo, but the ger had a fiancé in the past, and if all went well he would likely already be married.
Xu Zeng’s logic didn’t make sense.
Xu Zeng seemed a bit confused too but doubled down. "Outside of Dongzhou it’s not natural! Even half breeds will experience life and gain skills in the world before marrying. We’re too young to marry."
Xu Hu Zhe looked at the serious and proper look on Xu Zeng’s face as he lectured him about being appropriate. Was this the same man who had kissed him and initiated both of their first together?
"Finding a mate is something not to take lightly. We should mate for life."
Xu Hu Zhe closed his gaping mouth only to open it back in rebuttal, "Xu Feng is the same age as you, and he is married."
Xu Zeng, "..."
Xu Hu Zhe gave the other man some time before he continued. "Even if Xuan Yang is a ’half breed,’ Xuan Jian isn’t and he calls them both his mates."
Xu Zeng, "..."
"If you’re so set on mating for life, how can you tolerate us doing such things?"
Xi Zeng, "..."
Now his face was slightly red, and Xu Hu Zhe seemed to feel a bit better. They were practically the same age. For all the shame he felt, shouldn’t Xu Zeng feel shame too?
Xu Feng not feeling any shame was a given, he was a shameless ger, now Xu Hu Zhe was happy to get such a reaction from Xu Zeng. So happy in fact that a full grin spread across his face.
"I like it when you smile." With one sentence Xu Hu Zhe’s smile grew a little brighter, but his face grew even more bright in color, specifically a red coloring.
"I like it when you smile too."
