Xu Feng hadn’t seen so much as a tortoise in this mountainous area, not to talk of an actual turtle. Yet, he was moving like a turtle demon beast through and through.

With each turn of his head, there were after images across the world. His vision was barely stable if he moved at a snail pace. And, the person with the most likelihood of understanding why his body was glitching—Xu Zeng—was stuck in a different world with his "roaming" restricted.

The silver haired ger was stuck in video game purgatory. His body wasn’t really reacting well to the cheat code he’d used—cultivating in the Dong Ancestor’s space.

All the energy rich vegetables and teas he nurtured himself with his abilities and added to his and the rest of Blooming Courtyard—plus Xu Hu Zhe’s—meals had seemingly backfired on him now.

When Xu Feng brought up his idea to keep Midwife Lee semi-permanently, both men agreed easily, too easily...

He was well loved, but also a little cautious.

Xuan Jian could be bullied into making decisions he didn’t initially agree with—also known as ’he was open to seeing other perspectives,’ and Xu Feng could usually make him see reason. Or maybe it was just pampering, the pregnant ger wasn’t exactly sure which won out in the end.

Xuan Yang on the other hand was stubborn and often set in his ways—before he came to a decision about something, Yang Yang usually did extensive research and at least compared the pros and cons.

When Xu Feng tried to sway the snake young master, he had to use all the cunning being a fox demon allowed him—spoiler, it wasn’t much...His body seemed to be glitching in more ways than one.

But Xu Feng was not complaining. He wouldn’t look a prized gift horse in the mouth, he hadn’t reached that level of self sabotage.

As Midwife Lee made his way out of the room with Xu Si, the seasoned warrior shaped snack

, Xuan Jian, seized the opportunity to transform the expansive bed into a haven of comfort for the pregnant ger.

Swift and silent, he arranged the king sized mattress to perfection, positioning Xu Feng for a celestial relaxation with one of his favorite human shaped cushions at his back. The comforting scent of his lover enveloped him, swiftly dispelling the remnants of nausea that clung to his senses.

Nestled against Xuan Jian’s firm chest, Xu Feng found solace and safety and the world seemed to spin a bit more slowly. The solid, muscled expanse beneath him became a sanctuary, a declaration that everything was right in the world and would continue to be so.

The two main characters he’d dubbed for this world were fawning over him, a little bit of nausea was alright. He’d probably had the shortest pregnancy in Donghua history, a few bumps at the end wasn’t too much...

As Xu Feng self soothed, trying to ignore the fact that he’d nearly gone into labor while unconscious, eyes bored into his soul.

The eyes were intense and probing, boring too deeply into his soul to be ignored.

It wasn’t the typical scrutinizing stare of Xuan Yang, the scholar who usually kept Xuan Jian and Xu Feng in check. Instead, it was the intense, probing eyes of the smallest ger.

Without the toddler’s watchful eyes, Xuan Yang might have crawled into bed, creating a cuddle pile. However, the scholar maintained a cultured pose, conscious of propriety, trying to adhere to Donghua’s moral standards as he pulled up a seat beside Xu Feng and Xuan Jian on the right side of the bed.

The scholar had been raised by his nannies to mind his appearance, and knew "right from wrong" according to Donghua standards. Being a well known scholar in Jinghua, he needed to have some sort of propriety, not acting on most of his whims, like Xu Feng, the shameless ger who had corrupted Xuan Jian to his core.

The silence, just a heartbeat or two, hung in the air before Xu Feng’s face erupted into a large, shameless grin. A grin that had the power to make even the two big 7 foot tall men, Xuan Jian and Xuan Yang shiver in response.

Xu Si had accompanied Midwife Lee to the kitchen to concoct some remedy. The incense in the room temporarily halted Xu Feng’s labor, but he refused the offered alcohol, recalling the steadfast mantra from the modern world—"Pregnant women shouldn’t drink or smoke."

He wasn’t a woman, but there was no precedent for gers in Dongmen, so he would stick to his gut and refuse the alcohol until his children were safely evacuated from his body. His fruit wine could wait till then.

Instead, he readied himself for the bitter medicine Midwife Lee was preparing. It was the reason why he was always so reluctant to see Doctor Ping in the past and now he had to willingly drink some for the sake of his children’s safe delivery.

To divert his mind from the impending bitterness, Xu Feng turned his attention to the two children left behind in the room.

The little girl, aged around five or six, clutched her toddler brother tightly, a nervous protector guarding the much smaller ger. Her eyes darted around, wide with uncertainty, as if absorbing the opulence of the space or looking for an escape route for her and her brother.

The three year old ger, on the other hand, stared in wide eyed wonder at the unfolding scene of the three big men.

Against the backdrop of Xu Feng’s bedroom, the duo appeared almost painfully out of place. While Xu Feng himself was one for comfort rather than extravagance—the greenhouse aside—the room boasted a simplicity adorned with both modern and ancient touches.

The king sized bed took center stage, its allure undeniable. However, even the neutral fabrics and rich wooden furniture seemed to cast a spotlight on the scrawniness of the two children.

Their patched up, coarse clothing resembled neat but dingy rags, their slight frames emphasized against the muted elegance of the room. It tugged at Xu Feng’s heart, a twinge of pain echoing in the simplicity of the scene before him.
