Chapter 336: Simple Breakfast

Chapter 336: Simple Breakfast

In the heart of the bustling kitchen, Xu Feng stood proudly, his hands resting on his waist to support his round belly At this point, he felt like it was getting heavier and heavier each second.

His stance was confident, his posture determined, yet there was a softness to his expression and a calm that surrounded him.

Someone had woken up on the right side of the bed this morning, and it showed.

Despite the slowing pace of his jam making adventures, Xu Feng’s kitchen remained an ignorable space in Blooming Courtyard. There was a constant stream of sweet smelling aromas coming from this kitchen.

All the martial artists under Xuan Jian and Xuan Yang(?), as well as Xu Feng’s people, Xu Si, Xu San, and Xu Hu Zhe, and of course the three masters of the estate had all had a taste of the jams, and a few sips of the new fruit wine.

Still the smells coming from the kitchen, made the room the most frequently visited space in Blooming Courtyard recently. Xu Feng even felt bad for those outside his courtyard who hadn’t tasted his jam or wines yet, but for now, he wanted to keep things as secretive as possible.

In the next few days he might be completely confined to his bed, but he fully trusted Xu San and Xu Si to continue the jam making process until they ran out of fruits scavenged.

When the inevitable happened, and his focus fully shifted and redirected toward nurturing his unborn children and himself, he was confident is Si and San to continue on or pause his four man workshop.

Now Xu Feng was actively trying to stay off his feet and now spent more time reading about his pregnancy and learning about animals and special plant species of this continent.

He would sometimes get special book finds from Xuan Yang who borrowed books for limited times from unknown connections, and obscure texts and scrolls that seemed like Indiana Jon*s had found them or even Tomb Raid*r had been on an adventure from Xuan Jian.

Both his men spoiled him in whatever ways they could, and how they sourced of all his more rare treasures began to make more sense recently.

They were the few, well cared for, and precious books Xuan Yang—who seemed uninterested in anything outside of studying, Xuan Jian...and now him (Xu Feng)—had borrowed in accordance to Xu Feng’s interests from his teachers, and fellow scholars from the capital. All this, just to keep Xu Feng entertained during his pregnancy.

Xuan Jian on the other hand seemed to be using some kind of network to search for something—maybe the so called portals they’d been talking about recently? Maybe it was something more?—and during his search he seemed to be prioritizing things Xu Feng would find interesting along the way.

If he planned to take the Juren exam in the fall, he and Xuan Jian both would need to make time to study more often.

Xu Feng’s pregnancy revelation had made the two men even more protective and doting. It warmed Xu Feng’s heart to the core.

Ignoring the business with Lady Xuan and the Xuan family, his men were showing their care for him and their little ones in all the ways possible, he wanted to show some care to them beyond not being as stubborn.

Because that wasn’t just for their benefit. It was for all three of them. His learning to compromise more benefited all of them in some way or other.

How would he show some appreciation? Through their stomachs of course!

Xu Feng surveyed the kitchen slowly as Xu Si and Xu San busied themselves moving the huge pot of jam on the stove to the outside work area to make space for Xu Feng.

Yes! Xu Feng was stubborn, but he made a promise to rest more, Xu Si and Xu San both helping would help him keep his promise. All while keeping him active, and not feeling like an eyesore.

As Xu Si and Xu San bustled around the kitchen, their movements synchronized in a silent dance of efficiency. It was a cluttered space just a minute ago, but as Xu Si and Xu San worked together, the space became less and less stuffy.

Under all the jam making items, the space was still spick and span, as clean as could be.

Xu Feng couldn’t help but thank Xu San, "Thank you for everything you do, San." That one sentence carried a lot of emotion and gratefulness.

Xu San had stepped up even before his pregnancy, and without her, Xu Feng would have a hard time running his household, especially now that he was on house arrest in his courtyard.

Xu San kept the rest of Nanshan in order, and now that no other outside servants were allowed into Blooming Courtyard during his pregnancy, she and Xu Si, kept the entire place clean, she cooked most of their meals, and still found time to sew and embroider items for the future ’young masters.’

With the acknowledgment, San smiled proudly, and with that, Xu Feng couldn’t help but be proud, the girl didn’t blush.

She was becoming more and more confident, and removing what was left of her shell. Even with the servants that came to make the announcement from the main house in the capital, the girl hadn’t lost her nerve, didn’t retreat or act as if she felt inferior.

Xu Feng didn’t know if it was because of her status in the family, her new name and titles, the responsibility, or just confidence built over time, but he didn’t regret anything.

Xu Si on the other hand seemed a bit more timid after the retinue that came unannounced the day before.

When their eyes met, Xu Feng smiled at the girl, who in turn flushed a bit, but her smile was wild and unrestrained, Xu Si had grown a lot in this time as well, "Thank you, Si. You’re becoming more and more dependable every day."

This wasn’t an exaggeration, Xu Si wasn’t the stewardess of the Nanshan Estate, but she created the perfect support system for Xu San.

She knew most information in the estate before anyone else did, was hard working, and was very invested in preparing for the ’young masters.’ Both girls had changed so much in a period of a few months.

While they were still short, they weren’t bone thin anymore. They had filled out over winter, and were now more ruddy and healthy looking, and their energy levels matched it.

The smile on Xu Si’s face was infectious, making Xu Feng grin even more widely as she responded, "Yes I am!" Cooking with the two would be a reward in itself.

It had already been quite some time since Xu Feng had made an entire meal for everyone in Blooming Courtyard. The jams didn’t count as they weren’t meant to be an entire meal!

Xu Feng decided to make something simple, but hearty at the same time.

With the kitchen now tidied and spirits high, Xu Feng wasted no time in starting on second breakfast. Si, San, and all those awake had already had a simple breakfast. It was only Xu Feng, Xuan Jian, and Xuan Yang who had yet to have breakfast.

His hands moved with precision as he gathered an array of fresh ingredients from the well stocked pantry, and Si scurried to get a few last minute additions from the greenhouse.

Each item was carefully selected to complement the flavors of the wild boar leftovers that Xuan Jian had hunted the day before.

"Si, could you please prepare the vegetables for the soup?" Xu Feng called out, his voice carrying a hint of excitement of being in the kitchen again.

Si nodded eagerly, her nimble fingers swiftly slicing and dicing an assortment of vibrant vegetables—including a purple celery, and cabbage—into neat, uniform pieces.

Meanwhile, San busied herself with setting the table, arranging bowls and chopsticks with meticulous care, her eyes alight with anticipation for the meal to come.

Second breakfast was just as important as first breakfast!

Turning his attention to the stove, Xu Feng began the preparation of the soup—a simple yet nourishing broth infused with the rich flavors of simmering vegetables and savory broth.

To add a touch of sweetness and depth, he spooned a dollop of homemade jam into the pot, allowing it to melt and meld with the other ingredients, imparting a subtle sweetness that danced on the palate.

As the soup simmered gently on the stove, Xu Feng moved on to the main course—the succulent wild game provided by Xuan Jian. With deft hands, he seasoned the meat with a fragrant blend of herbs and spices, coaxing out its natural flavors and enhancing its succulence.

San joined Xu Feng at the counter, her fingers deftly plucking tender leaves of scallions to use as garnishes, their vibrant hues contrasting beautifully against the rich tones of the meat.

As the aroma of cooking filled the air, Xu Feng’s belly rumbled in anticipation, it was a relatively simple meal but with some buns added into the mix, it would be very satisfying.
