Chapter 321: Still, the Sun Rises

The room was enveloped in a comforting silence that was far from dead and lonely. It was the kind of silence that had become second nature to Xu Feng, a familiar presence in his life.

This ancient room, with its timeless aura, had gradually become his new normal. He had been in this world for approximately seven months, although if you counted his adventures in the Dong Ancestor’s space, it would be closer to a year.

In that time, he had grown accustomed to the rhythms of this world, its customs, and its quirks. In many ways, this world felt more like home to him than the modern world he had come from, a place that had Dongmen, the country where he had spent his younger years from toddlerhood to late adolescence.

Dongmen and Donghua, both were strange in their own ways.

But neither this world nor the modern world was truly his own. The realm where he and his cheap brother, Xu Zeng, had been discovered was another layer of complexity in his already unconventional existence. It was a strange sort of homelessness, a sense of not truly belonging to any one place or time.

Now, on top of all of that, he was about to bring two new lives into this world. Before yesterday, he could avoid certain truths, push them to the back of his mind, and simply forge ahead with determination. But as he had learned throughout his near traumatic experience the day before, the truth had a way of prevailing, of making itself known, and of demanding acknowledgment.

He didn’t want any more narcoleptic goat incidents. At least not while he was pregnant.

So, in the early morning hours, as the darkness was just beginning to fade and a soft, pale light filtered through the room, Xu Feng lay on his back, hands resting on either side of him. His gaze was focused on the distant horizon, staring into the depths of the room with a calm and contemplative expression.

One might wonder why his hand wasn’t placed protectively over his growing belly, which had become impossible to ignore. It was also his new favorite resting place. It was a literal built in hand rest!

The answer was simple: two grubby snakes had their hands on his belly instead. To his left lay Xuan Yang, his features relaxed in sleep, long pitch black hair still tied up in a topknot—it gave Xu Feng a headache just watching it, had the man forgotten to take down his hair? —and the gentle rise and fall of his chest as he breathed softly.

To his right was Xuan Jian, whose grey eyes were hidden behind closed lids, his muscular frame radiating a sense of calm and security. They were both deep in slumber, an uncommon sight as the two men were both early—earlier than Xu Feng—risers.

He didn’t know what the two had been up to all night though. They had spent the entire night playing tag with the two children growing within Xu Feng’s belly.

The room itself was a fusion of ancient Donghua with subtle modern touches that Xu Feng had incorporated from Dongmen. The traditional elements blended seamlessly with more contemporary conveniences, creating a unique atmosphere.

It was like their relationship, a fusion of different characters, different physical appearances, and different life experiences. So many differences, but the fusion seemed just right.

If the children were born healthy, they would be showered with lots of love and affection. But would that be enough?

As Xu Feng lay in bed, his gaze moved and fixed on the ancient wooden beams that adorned the ceiling of their room. He felt a weight on him, not just the physical presence of the two men on either side, but the weight of impending reality.

The knowledge that he would be due in just a few weeks hung over him like a shroud, a constant reminder of the responsibilities and uncertainties that lay ahead.

His determination to do everything within his power for the sake of his future children, his husbands, and his new family—both near and far, he’d acquired quite a few cheap siblings in the last year—filled his thoughts.

He was torn between his desire to contribute and his need to prioritize his health, a delicate balance he would have to maintain in the coming days.

Poor Xu Hu Zhe and the men under Xuan Jian’s hand, would need to take even more responsibility when it came to the wine and jam processing. There was now more space available in the cellar and back courtyard.

Without sparing a glance for either man, Xu Feng continued to stare upward, his focus drawn to the intricate patterns of the wooden beams. The room around him held an air of stillness, the warmth of his husbands’ bodies beside him a comforting presence.

Their hands on his belly were a tangible reminder of the life growing within him, impossible to ignore.

Normally, he might have peeked to check if they were awake, but today was different. The subtle shifts in their breathing told him all he needed to know—they were awake.

It seemed that his senses had grown sharper recently, a side effect of his cultivation in the Dong Ancestor’s space.

He had spent five months immersed in that realm, honing his abilities, although he still wasn’t entirely sure what he should be looking for in terms of progress. He didn’t know how to judge but he had definitely benefited.

The line between reality and fiction had blurred for him long ago, influenced by a lifetime of manga, web novels, and dramas from the modern world. Now, as he lay here contemplating his unique situation, he couldn’t help but wonder at the strangeness of it all.

Finally, with a soft yet deliberate clearing of his throat, Xu Feng broke the silence, "Ahem".

He knew that both men were wide awake, even if they pretended otherwise. There was no need for pretense among them, not now.
