Chapter 286: What If I’m Pregnant?
In the hush of the forest, the thick metallic scent of blood seemed to coat the air heavily. The giant snake was dead, but it wasn’t leaving the world without a keepsake, it coated its former den thickly in the metallic fragrance.
Ignorant of the danger the distinct scent had in a virgin forest, Xu Hu Zhe’s thoughts veered deep into the recesses of his past. Memories, like fragments of shattered glass, lay scattered within his mind, each piece a painful reminder of the life he had led before Xu Feng had entered it.
He had been a child of the streets, a nameless urchin fending for himself in the unforgiving embrace of Yilin town. Everywhere he turned, he had been met with disdain, cruelty, and indifference. A glance was enough for others to dismiss him as a nuisance, someone to be discarded and forgotten.
It was when those bleak days promised to get better, that he had met two girls, Xu Si and Xu San, who had shown him a kindness he had never known. Yet in Nanshan Estate, they were worse off than he was, living lives of quiet desperation, unable to challenge the adults or fend for themselves.
Together, they had forged a fragile alliance, pooling their meager resources to ensure that none of them would starve during the harsh winters that threatened their existence. The girls would mend clothes for him, steal cotton from Auntie Lan to stuff his coat, and treat his wounds.
In return, he would hunt for them, and do the washing in the winter months so they wouldn’t grow ill or starve.
His musings weren’t all about bad memories and situations. Now, he stood on the edge of an entirely new future, one that had been ushered in by Xu Feng.
Strong and blessed descendants of the immortal beasts, Xu Feng, Xuan Jian, and Xuan Yang, who were like forces of nature, were now at his back. At first, he didn’t care for Xuan Jian and Xuan Yang, but they weren’t bad...
Everything was changing, and it seemed to be changing for good. Even if the world wasn’t what it seemed, he had never trusted people at face value anyway.
Even if Xu Feng couldn’t protect him, that wouldn’t change his feelings for his benefactor.
Xu Hu Zhe was bubbling with unspoken words, his blood boiling, his youth energizing him. It was like he was ready to go to war, to fight 100 rounds, to ride or die for his benefactor.
He wanted to swear his allegiance to Xu Feng, to swear his life to the ger in front of him. The emotions had reached the top hundreds of times over.
Although he was a man of few words—who would listen to him even if he talked? That was what he felt before, but now he knew Xu Feng would listen. He was always listening and putting their needs above his own...okay, maybe not above, but even to his own.
Xu Hu Zhe mustered up his courage, and lined up the words to encourage and thank his benefactor. Why should Xu Feng feel this way? He had done so much for him, Xu Si, and Xu San. No matter what happened in the future, they would always be grateful to him.
But then, as if an invisible hand had swept away the weight of his reverie, Xu Feng shot up from his crouched position, his demeanor transforming in an instant. The somber reflection on life’s journey and the depths of his own past seemed to vanish, replaced by a surge of excitement and shock that was characteristically Xu Feng.
In that moment, Xu Hu Zhe could only marvel at the mystery that was his benefactor, the man who had not only given him a future to look forward to but had also irreversibly altered the course of his life.
"What if I’m pregnant?" Xu Feng’s words were abrupt and loud, echoing in the forest around them.
Pregnant...
Pregnant...
Pregnant...
...
"Pregnant..." Xu Hu Zhe echoed, his eyes widening as if carriage-kun was coming for him with vengeance.
He hadn’t been around many pregnant women or gers. Even among the beggars when he was a child, those who were found pregnant would often disappear a few days after their stomachs became larger.
Where did they go? Xu Hu Zhe wasn’t sure.
He didn’t have experience with pregnancy, but he had heard things from other children and men. Pregnant women and gers were always hungry, they were quick to become tired, and they had strange moods.
Xu Feng was a hungry ghost! From the first day he met Xu Feng, his appetite was larger than any ger Xu Hu Zhe had ever met...he wasn’t quite sure if this was a strike for or against Xu Feng being pregnant.
For the second point, this was dead on. Xu Feng had been tired recently. After their last trip to Yilin, he had slept the entire ride back to Nanshan estate. When they got to Blooming Courtyard, he slept again, and didn’t wake up till the next day!
He didn’t even eat.
"Pregnant." Xu Hu Zhe said more firmly this time. It was making more sense. Then his eyes widened even more, if that was even possible, and his mouth fell open.
Xu Feng was definitely pregnant! Why? THE SNAKE!! He wants to eat raw snake!!!
Pregnant people are hungry!
The math was mathing.
As Xu Hu Zhe’s realization became more and more real, Xu Feng’s shock seemed to die down. He tilted his head from side to side as he contemplated something.
A few seconds later he mumbled to himself, "Even if they’re protagonists, neither of them can get me pregnant..." Xu Feng tilted his head again as he chewed over the idea of being pregnant.
Without a second thought, the silver haired ger rubbed his stomach as he stared blankly into space. Then as if a switch were flicked Xu Feng’s calm demeanor washed back over him and a small grin spread on his face.
"I am OP! If they’re the protagonists, I’m the big boss. The big boss can’t get PREGNANT!"
Xu Hu Zhe looked at the ger as his face fell back into it’s usual stoic expression. His benefactor was...OP?
