The Ger's Contract Marriage [BL]
Chapter 228: Transparent

Chapter 228: Transparent

As Xu Feng contemplated the mysterious mutations of his partners’ abilities, he couldn’t help but feel a sense of wonder and intrigue. Xuan Yang’s transformation from fire to thunder, from black to purple, puzzled him.

It was as if the laws governing their abilities transcended conventional reasoning. After all, how could one explain his own wood abilities, which might be entirely unrelated to his ancestral lineage? Wasn’t he a fox with an earth attribute in theory?

Was the original fox demon beast that arrived in Dongzhou continent a different attribute? He was technically an ability user before a cultivator.

Lost in thought, Xu Feng realized that he had never looked into the origins of his or Xu Zeng’s ancestry in this world. All he knew was that they were of fox bloodline.

It was an area of knowledge he had neglected, either or on purpose or accidentally. His focus had been primarily on adapting to his new life and taking care of his family.

However, now that the world of cultivation had opened up before him, the mysteries of his heritage became more relevant than ever.

Both Xuan Yang and Xuan Jian required nurturing and resources in their cultivation journey. Xu Feng understood that his own abilities were supplementary in nature, seemingly designed to provide sustenance and support to cultivators and those with varying levels of immortal bloodline.

Bai Mo, with his unique bloodline, had been able to benefit from Xu Feng’s nourishing food and Dragon Chrysanthemum tea.

Xu Hu Zhe, with an untraceable heritage, had also shown signs of being an immortal bloodline carrier, but Xu Feng needed more information to place him accurately within this complex hierarchy and within a specific animal group.

"Bai Mo!" A sudden realization struck Xu Feng, and his eyes widened in alarm. Their plan to send Bai Mo on a quest to retrieve treasures from the Bai and Deng families had the potential to backfire.

He had meticulously planned and overthought every detail of their ’mission,’ but the possibility of their efforts yielding nothing but trouble began to gnaw at him.

Startled by Xu Feng’s distress, Xuan Yang leaned in closer, his curiosity piqued. He couldn’t bear to see his adorable and occasionally frustrating ger troubled. "What is it?" he asked, his concern evident in his expression as he sought to understand the source of Xu Feng’s unease.

"Bai Mo is taking the Dragon Chrysanthemum tea to the ancestors of the Deng and Bai families. We wanted to get whatever special inheritance foxes of immortal bloodline receive." Xu Feng crumpled his face up, "But, Momo is a second level immortal bloodline carrier, not a first level like you two, so they shouldn’t give him any cultivation techniques!"

Xu Feng’s admission left both Xuan Yang and Xuan Jian utterly surprised, their usual banter momentarily silenced. It wasn’t often that their charming ger displayed such cunning intelligence, and it filled them with a mix of surprise and pride.

"What?" For once, Xuan Yang was utterly speechless as he stared at the ger in front of him. Not speechless because of his perverted antics, but because of his intelligence. The two foxes were up to more than running off in the woods for a rare snack—although that in itself was witty (and hungry) fox behavior.

The idea that Bai Mo was sent to the Deng and Bai families to retrieve a potential inheritance associated with their immortal bloodlines had never occurred to them. Xu Feng’s keen intellect had grasped the significance of clan inheritance, and he had devised a plan to safeguard his interests.

"You knew about clan inheritance?" Xuan Jian was just as shocked, but there was still a grin on his face. He was proud of his lover, such a smart partner, he would cherish them both for his entire life.

"Mhmm," Xu Feng affirmed with a roll of his eyes, fully aware of their earlier secrecy. "You both were being secretive with me, so I came up with my own method to protect myself... I needed to make sure my people and I were safe no matter how the contract ended."

"Protect." "Contract." Both terms echoed in unison from Xuan Yang and Xuan Jian.

They realized that their motives and intentions had been fundamentally different from Xu Feng’s. It was always like this, the silver haired ger was always on a different train of thought.

While they had sought to keep him in the dark to ensure his safety and their own, he had been determined to learn and gather information to protect himself in case they were no longer around.

This time the silence was a bit longer as all three were caught in their own thoughts and assessments.

It was Xuan Jian who finally stuck his head out of the carriage once again, "Bei, take a horse and chase after Bai Mo. Have you heard our conversation? Tell him to keep his ears out. His relatives shouldn’t know his potential exceed rank three."

As Xuan Jian conveyed their instructions to Bei and he promptly left to catch up with Bai Mo, the carriage continued its slow journey through the streets of Yilin Town. The atmosphere inside the carriage had shifted from surprise and curiosity to a sense of responsibility and concern.

Xuan Yang’s words echoed the realization that excessive secrecy had unintended consequences, and it was time for a more open and transparent approach, at least within their own circle. The discussion about why the clans with immortal bloodlines were striving for children became a pressing matter.

"It’s for his safety," Xuan Yang followed up finally realizing too much secrecy was doing the opposite of his intentions, "We need to talk about why the clans with immortal bloodlines are striving for children."

"...Will Momo be okay?" Xu Feng was in a whirlwind of emotions, he was worried about the other fox he might have sent to some horrible fate, but also curious, so curious.

Xuan Jian smiled and nodded. Bei had disembarked and quickly followed orders. "Bei should catch up before noon. After that Bai Mo will be safe.

There is a fox descendant of the Deng bloodline with rank three high potential, he may be able to receive some beneficial guidance for you both, but no one should take too great of a fancy on him. His family history riddled with death is still considered a bad omen."
