Chapter 197: Wild Boars!
Chapter 197: Wild Boars!
The roar that came from its mouth seemed to shake the mountain. A pain filled screech that threatened to burst one’s eardrums.
Xu Feng looked up to make sure Bai Mo was leaving, this Boar wouldn’t let him off. One of them would need to die today. Either that, or a miracle would need to happen.
Bai Mo’s wide eyes locked onto Xu Feng, horror flooding his features upon seeing...seeing... "Feng Feng!" he cried out, his voice quivering with fear. "Behind you!"
"Run," He returned to Momo. No matter what it was, Bai Mo needed to leave. As if understanding his presence would only complicate the situation, the Bai young master turned around without another word and made a beeline for the horses, back basket still in hand.
At this time, Xu Feng couldn’t bother about the basket, and instead spun around, heeding Bai Mo’s final warning.
A guttural growl, unlike anything he’d heard before, reverberated through the trees, sending chills down his spine. There, only a few meters away, a colossal figure emerged from the foliage, its form obscured by the dense foliage.
It wasn’t fully visible, but the coloring was telling. It had blue black tussled fur, and what looked like pink antlers, but Xu Feng instinctively knew they were tusks. This was an even bigger version of the already oversized wild boar still wailing beside him in pain.
Panic coursed through Xu Feng as he faced the humungous creature, his hand gripping the kitchen knife at his waist. This boar was nearly at his waist and should be easily over 800 kilos.
Unlike domesticated pigs which were mostly fat, boars were muscular and agile. And this Donghua abomination was even bigger than a normal boar! Every nerve in his body screamed for action, yet his mind grappled with the uncertainty of the situation.
Bai Mo’s voice, tinged with sheer terror, broke through the chaos again, he was still in eye sight. "Feng Feng, behind you!"
"Momo, go!!!" This time Bai Mo really retreated honestly with his neck shriveled, not daring to play lookout anymore.
Xu Feng pivoted once more, a flicker of movement catching his eye. An enormous shadow loomed behind him, its shape looming over the forest floor. Bai Mo’s warning echoed through his mind, adrenaline flooding his veins.
He spun around just in time to see an even larger showy beast peeking out from the depths of the forest. But not just one.
There were several, all of different shapes and sizes, ready to avenge the screaming boar, that was likely just a cub, rolling around at Xu Feng’s feet. Its blood freely flowing on the green grass and foliage from the above trees.
Without a second thought, Xu Feng lunged sideways, narrowly dodging the nearest boars attack. His heart raced in his chest as he stumbled, barely managing to regain his footing.
At the very least, the larger boars were slower moving giving Xu Feng an advantage, and a chance at escape. This time he had no time to wish for a prince charming to come save him. He needed to save himself.
The boar with large swirling tusks skidded to a halt, its massive frame looming over the smaller boars that quickly surrounded it, hot breaths huffing through its snout. For a moment that stretched like an eternity, they stood frozen, locked in a tense standoff.
Instinctively, Xu Feng tightened his grip on the knife, ready to defend himself, but also understanding, his knife wasn’t going to be too helpful. It would likely just make the boars even angrier. His mind raced, seeking an escape route or some semblance of a plan during the chaos.
But before the situation escalated further, Xu Feng turned tail and ran.
Yes, he ran. He ran like the wind. Like hounds of hell were chasing him. Like he owed someone money. He ran.
Some people are more athletic than others. Naturally faster or stronger or flexible. Not everyone is created equal, but even so, Xu Feng was never one of those people, super athletically gifted. And he still wasn’t but the adrenaline coursing through his veins didn’t seem to care.
As Xu Feng darted through the dense woodland, a pack of mutant looking wild boars hot on his heels, his feet pounded the forest floor as if the hounds of hell were nipping at his heels.
Each stride carried him deeper into the woods, his breaths ragged and desperate, yet a sense of relief washed over him knowing that at least Bai Mo was safe, heading back towards Nanshan estate.
The trees seemed to part effortlessly for Xu Feng, granting him an unhindered path, almost as if the forest itself was aiding his escape. But for the boars, the natural inhabitants of the woods, the thick undergrowth was proving to be a formidable obstacle.
They stumbled over tangled vines, tripped on roots, and careened into trees in their relentless pursuit.
Despite the burning ache in his lungs and the pounding of his heart, Xu Feng didn’t dare slow his pace. He held the knife tightly in his hand, his mind focused on escape and survival. Yet, during the chaos and panic, that strange sensation, that inexplicable pull, tugged at him once more.
This time, against all logic, he listened.
It was as if some unseen force was guiding him, urging him to follow a particular path, one that deviated from his frantic flight from the boars. With a leap of faith, Xu Feng changed direction, veering off into the unknown depths of the forest, trusting this strange sensation to lead him somewhere that was not here.
The ring around his neck heated up, as if encouraging him, or looking to confirm something. It wasn’t the burning heat from the exam, it was a comforting warmth, a buzzing. It felt as though Xu Feng could feel the ring thinking.
Can a ring think? Maybe a magic ring could.
Xu Feng’s heart raced as he followed the invisible guidance, weaving through the dense foliage. The underbrush clawed at his clothing, seemingly pushing him in the same direction he was being pulled.
The sensation pulling him forward grew stronger, a persistent tug that seemed to beckon him toward an uncertain destination.
As he raced through the forest, the chaos behind him faded gradually. The sounds of pursuit diminished, the panicked grunts of the boars blending into the distance. It was as if the forest itself had swallowed the noise, enveloping Xu Feng in an eerie silence broken only by the rustling leaves and his own labored breaths.
The dense canopy above filtered the sunlight, casting dappled patterns on the forest floor. With each step, Xu Feng’s senses sharpened, attuned to the symphony of the woods, the rustling of leaves, the distant calls of birds, and the occasional scampering of unseen creatures.
