Chapter 191: Lord of the Ring
The wind fluttered in Xu Feng’s face as the rode the two horses, Xun and Fei were good horses. They were both meek around Xu Feng, but they weren’t the least bit skittish. Of the two, the stallion, Fei was more brave, so that was the horse Xu Feng chose to ride.
His riding experience wasn’t too plentiful. He’d only ridden with Xuan Yang on their wedding day, but he was a quick learner, also the stallion was really very friendly.
The two more robust black stallions of Xuan Yang and Xuan Jian seemed to judge Xu Feng when he left with the "inferior horses," but Xu Feng didn’t pay them any mind. If he tried to "borrow" one of them while their masters were at play, they wouldn’t have it, so the horses needed to keep their judgment to themselves!
As a precaution before leaving Nanshan estate, Xu Feng had left a message with the new guards at the gate. Two separate messages. One for Xu Hu Zhe’s group and the other for Xuan Yang and Xuan Jian.
One message was a "we’re out for a ride." The other was, "Come and join me on the dark side!" not in those words exactly, but Hu Zhe would understand what he meant!
Xun and Fei pranced elegantly through the sun kissed clearing behind Nanshan estate, their hooves painting a lively rhythm against the soft earth.
Bai Mo, ever the graceful rider, sat atop Xun, his posture effortless as he guided the horse with practiced ease. His natural affinity with animals shone through as he handled the reins with a gentle precision, coaxing Xun into a leisurely trot.
Beside him, Xu Feng sat atop Fei, the stallion’s confident strides matching the spirited energy of his rider. However, Xu Feng’s riding was a bit more unsteady, his attempts at maintaining balance met with a touch of clumsiness. Yet, he laughed and persisted, enjoying the thrill of the ride despite his occasional wobbling.
The spring weather graced the landscape with its finest colors, painting the scenery with vibrant hues of green and gold. The trees swayed gently, their branches offering a comforting shade, while the cheerful chirping of birds serenaded the riders.
The wind carried the sweet fragrance of blossoming flowers, mingling with the earthy scent of the grass, creating a masterpiece of scents that danced in the air.
As they navigated the clearing, Bai Mo and Xu Feng shared a few short words and laughter, basking in the simple joy of the moment.
Xu Feng’s enthusiasm was infectious, and despite his occasional fumbles in the saddle, his laughter filled the air, echoing the carefree spirit of their adventure. The horses seemed to respond to their laughter, their gaits growing more spirited, mirroring the cheerful energy of their riders.
The mission was almost forgotten as the wind flowed across his face. It transformed from a mission to a real adventure. Riding was fun, it made Xu Feng feel alive in a different way than gardening did.
Both seemed to revitalize him, or maybe it was just having a hobby that gave him energy?
It was fun the last time Xu Feng rode with Xuan Yang, but there was so much going on at the time, that he could barely enjoy the moment. So many thoughts were constantly running through his mind.
Xu Feng thought about how bold he had been that day, him and his wondering hands were something else...
A slight flush rose up on his face. Xuan Yang had never brought it up after their marriage, so Xu Feng hoped the tale of his wandering hands, would go with his husband to his grave.
It wasn’t him, it was the "hormones," or "pheromones," or something like that. It had something to do with his immortal blood, and no one could convince him otherwise.
As they neared the foothills of the looming mountains, Xu Feng’s gaze drifted to the ring nestled against his chest. It was a simple piece of jewelry, unassuming in its appearance, yet it held an inexplicable weight in his mind.
The ring, left by the original owner of the body, Xu Zeng, had sparked with too much warmth during the Xuicai exam, a fleeting impression that left Xu Feng puzzled.
While now there was no heat or throbbing sensation, Xu Feng couldn’t shake the feeling of its presence. It seemed to tug at his consciousness, an unseen force drawing him closer to the dense foliage that enveloped the mountainside.
The towering trees, the whispering leaves, and the tranquil silence of the forest called out to him, almost beckoning him to explore deeper into its mysteries.
Fei’s steps grew more cautious, sensing Xu Feng’s subtle shift in demeanor. The stallion slowed its pace, as if mirroring its rider’s curiosity and cautious approach. Meanwhile, Bai Mo and Xun trotted nearby, enjoying the scenery but unaware of the currents tugging at Xu Feng’s thoughts.
With each passing moment, the lush forest seemed to hold a magnetic allure, and Xu Feng found himself yearning to immerse himself within its embrace. He had no clear explanation for this pull, but a desire to uncover the secrets lingering within those green woods bloomed within him.
It was like he was having a Lord of the Ri*gs moment as they get closer to the mountains. All that was left was for his brain to rot, and for him to start muttering, "My precious, my precious!"
If that did happen, Xu Feng didn’t know what he’d do next. But he continued to move closer to the target, one gallop at a time.
Until they reached the edge of the forest almost 15 to 20 minutes after their ride began, and the ring continued to lull Xu Feng into the mountains.
Disembarking from Fei wasn’t too difficult, although Xu Feng did land flat on his bottom for a moment. But that was normal! This was his first time getting off a horse without Xuan Yang’s help.
Bai Mo had nearly freaked out from the tumble, but Xu Feng reassured him, before they secured their horses nearby.
The young master from the Bai Mansion seemed to be enjoying the wind in his hair, but for Xu Feng, it was a different kind of joy. Almost as soon as they touched the edge of the forest, Xu Feng spotted some edible mushrooms!
Edible gold!
