The Ger's Contract Marriage [BL]
Chapter 188: The Calm Before the Storm

Chapter 188: The Calm Before the Storm

As promised, Xu Feng would have Momo over for both lunch and dinner, and as time flew by, neither husband came out of wherever they were hiding, doing whatever they were doing.

With Xuan Jian, usually the voice of reason, being the one with an unclear head, and Xuan Yang and his insatiable libido—’worse than my unfortunate one’—it was really a lost cause.

Xu Feng knew not to go try to investigate the situation with a guest over. Momo was forgiving, but that was a side he wasn’t ready to show his new friends, it was best to stay far away from the main building of Blooming Courtyard if possible.

So as a certain furry eared ger’s tummy rumbled, Xu Feng ignored the blush that decorated his face and complimented the brown ears. It was time to make lunch.

"Put your ears away," Xu Feng added nonchalantly, as he stood up quickly and rubbed at the two soft brown pointed ears that had been calling his name since Bai Mo had taken them out.

"Aeeh," The noise that came out of Bai Mo’s mouth made Xu Feng want to keel over in laughter, but he didn’t want to embarrass his companion too much. With a quick glance back as he moved forward, the blush on Momo’s face was deep and adorable.

"Keep up, Momo." Xu Feng called back as he started on an adventure to whip up lunch for their twosome.

Blooming Courtyard wasn’t completely off limits, but Xu Feng thought better of staying there to cook. The smells might arouse the sex crazed snakes. It would be traumatizing for Momo to have to see any little snakes, or...anything of that nature.

There was a lot that could go wrong.

So instead of tempting fate, Xu Feng made his way to the main kitchen of the Nanshan estate to get a back basket. As Xu Feng traversed the estate, he took mental notes of the surroundings. The estate was a beehive of activity, yet he navigated it effortlessly, weaving through the hustle and bustle with practiced ease.

The air was laced with the sweet scent of blooming flowers, carrying the promise of the vibrant life that thrived within Nanshan. Among the coming and going of servants, Xu Feng maintained his determined stride, his silver hair shimmering in the sunlight that streamed through the trees.

The main kitchen was initially full of bustling energy, but Xu Feng had a distinct way of asserting control without saying a word. He declined the assistance offered by the attentive servants with a gentle shake of his head, indicating his self reliance as he collected the necessities for their upcoming meal.

He moved like a well-oiled machine through the kitchen, his long sleeves rolled up and his slender fingers deftly working to assemble the provisions.

As he finished arranging the basket with ingredients, Xu Feng thought of two little snakes currently slithering around in his courtyard. His plan was to make lunch in Budding Courtyard, Xuan Yang’s former courtyard and the first place he stayed when he came to Nanshan.

The kitchen there should be stocked with plates, cups, water for cooking etc., but he wanted to make sure the supplies that were newer and had been specifically customized for him—these were to be used in his private kitchen and the main kitchen for the entire household—were collected.

Next, after assuring the servants he and Momo were fine, and to see to whatever else needed to be done (it was a bit early for lunch, but the main kitchen had to prepare food for all the servants) they headed to the forbidden zone.

Leaving Momo at the courtyard gate of his personal courtyard, Xu Feng was in and out in record time, scurrying to the back to enter the cellar, picking up some needed supplies, then heading to his greenhouse for some produce.

In a handful of minutes, Xu Feng was done and had met back with Bai Mo, who still didn’t understand what all the sneaking around was for.

Going back to the greenhouse wasn’t necessary, the estate had officially opened up vegetable patches within the boundary and a small field was to be prepared outside the walls of the estate to grow staple crops.

Who knew how other young masters and young mistresses lived their lives? Maybe they had tenant farmers and were landlords, and that’s where they got their food from, but Xu Feng didn’t have that, so growing staple crops this spring was something he was excited about.

Till the crops matured, they would have to make do with food from the town, and from Nanshan village below—some of the villagers had come to sell excess produce and crops during the winter, when they were in need of money for medicine and other commodities.

Xu San had been in charge of this business, but still kept Xu Feng informed of the entire situation.

As Bai Mo entered the Budding Courtyard with Xu Feng, his surprise was apparent. Budding Courtyard was beautiful in terms of what was acceptable currently in Donghua, but this wasn’t what Bai Mo was used to in Nanshan estate.

He spent most of his time in Xu Feng’s private courtyard, enjoying modern luxuries, and now he felt like he’d gone home, back to the ancient standard of beauty for a dwelling place.

The discomfort of his companion was funny to Xu Feng, but only momentarily, before he threw himself into cooking. He was hungry as well.

With a nonchalant wave, Xu Feng motioned for Bai Mo to make himself comfortable while he set about preparing the ingredients. As pots clinked softly against the stove and aromatic scents began to waft through the air, Bai Mo’s initial discomfort seemed to wane, replaced by a quiet awe.

The ambiance in the kitchen was serene, the culinary preparation almost a dance between efficiency and elegance, orchestrated by Xu Feng’s practiced hands.

As Bai Mo observed Xu Feng expertly move around the kitchen, his unease dissipated, replaced by a sense of calmness—Xu Feng was too talented.

Despite the initial surprise and shift in atmosphere, the two friends soon found themselves enveloped in the shared comfort of companionship, as Xu Feng’s kitchen came alive with the promise of a delightful meal.
