Chapter 185: That’s A Wild Animal!

"Ahahahah, hahaha," Xu Feng’s infectious laughter filled the air, a joyous sound that reverberated across the estate. His unrestrained delight echoed through the silence, reaching the far corners of the lush surroundings.

Meanwhile, Bai Mo sat with a patient expression, the humor not completely lost on him, but he didn’t find it funny. His features, usually serene, were now adorned with a pout that seemed almost out of place on his face, a contrast to the cheeriness that enveloped Xu Feng.

Momo looked like a certain Poke*on. He looked like a pouty little Jiggly Ru*f. This thought sent Xu Feng into another spiral of laughter before calming down.

The peacefulness of the pavilion returned, except for the occasional rustling of leaves and the distant melodies of birds. The servants, efficient and silent in their movements, returned with a tray laden with a variety of Donghua dim sum—delicate rice dumplings, a variety of nuts, and small but simple pastries that tempted the palate.

Xu Feng’s laughter had already stopped, replaced by a mischievous glint in his eyes as he reached for the teapot. His composure, previously in disarray due to his unrestrained laughter, was now slightly subdued, but there was still a residual twinkle in his eye that hinted at the hidden depths of his humor.

Bai Mo, despite his lingering pout, seemed curious about the snacks arranged before them. His gaze flitted from the tray to Xu Feng, seemingly torn between amusement and mild annoyance.

The moment was suspended in a comfortable silence, punctuated only by the occasional clinking of teacups and the sound of nibbling on the delicate dim sum from Xu Feng. The air was laced with the aroma of steamed buns and the fragrant blend of tea, creating a cozy atmosphere within the pavilion.

Typically, this arrangement would be standard, and inviting. Bai Mo had friends before Xu Feng, it had been six years since he visited or was invited to visit one of those "friends’" homes, but this plating was something he would see then.

It was apparent the servants, serving Xu Feng had some background in a wealthy family or two, but...

Giving it another minute for the two servants to leave the area after being dismissed by Xu Feng, Bai Mo started again, "See!" He pointed at the well plated snacks and the sufficiently fragrant tea.

"How does it taste?" Bai Mo asked already unconvinced. His face said it all. ’This isn’t the top quality goods I’m accustomed to!’

Xu Feng casually inspected the spread, reaching for a cup of tea to quench his parched throat. His response was nonchalant, a playful smirk dancing on his lips. "It’s not bad," he offered, reveling in Bai Mo’s visible dismay.

"Alright? Alright?" Bai Mo’s excitement bubbled, his features morphing into a mix of surprise and mild indignation. His fox ears perked up, a clear indication of his emotions. "Feng Feng, you’re too much! What have I done?"

The mention of his nickname brought a bigger grin to Xu Feng’s face. "Feng Feng? I thought I was Feng’er?" he teased, enjoying Bai Mo’s visible fluster.

In an unexpected turn, Bai Mo surprised Xu Feng by rolling his eyes with such skill, his amusement evident in the cheeky gesture.

Xu Feng’s mischievous gaze roamed the pavilion, landing on a decorative trinket that had been left behind from the small party hosted by Xuan Yang and Xuan Jian after the Xuicai exam. It seemed like a peculiar yet perfect tool for his purpose.

Without any further thought, he hurled it at the other fox.

Bai Mo didn’t budge, taking the hit to his mid section, and grinning, showing little pointed teeth. ’Too cute,’ Xu Feng couldn’t help but fall into another fit of laughter, "You learn the strangest things!"

"You taught me well," Bai Mo whispered, rolling his eyes again, "And you know I try to call you Feng’er in public because of your wild animals. And, and, solely because I haven’t visited in some time, am I not allowed Chrysanthemum tea and snacks made in your personal kitchen?

It’s not that the snacks don’t appear delicious and inviting, but I know what your personal cooking looks and tastes like. I have been craving your cooking for so long and this is what..."

It took a heartbeat before Xu Feng reacted, but his confusion paused his laughter and prompted him to interrupt the other’s rant. "Wild animal?"

"Yes," Bai Mo answered equally confused, what was there not to understand? "Your wild animals?" He tested out tentatively. Weren’t they already up to speed on this. His wild animals weren’t home, which made the estate strangely more peaceful. With them hiding, he could call Xu Feng, Feng Feng boldly with no glares or icy stares.

"Xuan Jian said he would hunt me a pair of wolves to protect the house. Wasn’t that what you were talking about?"

"How would I know about a pair of wolves you haven’t received yet? Also a pair of wolves!?"

"I thought I must have told you before, and the dog..." Xu Feng furrowed his brows, but he still chuckled, before being filled with confusion again.

"Your wild animals are both your husbands, Erlang," He peeked at Xu Feng’s reaction before continuing, he wouldn’t hide anything from his friend, but he didn’t want to hurt the other’s feelings either. "The girls, Si and San, are like little animals, not quite wild, but they all watch over you."

"Oh." There was a moment of silence with Xu Feng staring at Bai Mo with a straight face, but Momo wasn’t worried, sometime Xu Feng needed time to think. "You know I called Jian a dog, moments before you arrived, so it makes sense. The shoe fits."

...

"You thought I was missing the wolves?"

...

Xu Feng nodded, "I thought you were chastising Jian for not keeping his word. I found it cute...ahem, admirable that you were sticking up for me when I, myself, forgot..."

At this, Bai Mo had a wide grin, Feng Feng was really the cute one. "If I knew," He paused, "I would not have brought the issue up with your husbands, but I would certainly be on Feng Feng’s side!"
