The Ger's Contract Marriage [BL] -
Chapter 148: No More Excuses
Chapter 148: No More Excuses
The cheerful laughter from Xu Feng did not stop the servant’s progress this time. After three months, they had grown accustomed to their eccentric yet kind young master. The silver haired ger seemed to be releasing stress from the Xuicai exams, or so they assumed.
The newly arrived servants swiftly understood why the one who dared climb into Xuan Jian’s bed was included among those sold off. Initially, they believed Xuan Jian wasn’t part of the off limits category. Master Feng had stated that neither man was allowed, but...
It took them a while to realize that Xu Feng had somehow managed to coax both Xuan Jian and Xuan Yang into his bed willingly. At least, that’s what the servant guiding the carriage initially thought.
As time passed within the Nanshan estate, it became apparent to him that the two surnamed Xuan had a complex relationship with each other. They could often be spotted holding hands around the estate, while Xu Feng frequently sought out hiding spots in the greenhouse, craft room, cellar, and more.
The actual owner of the house spent most of his time hiding from his lovers.
The servant shook his head, refocusing on leading the horse along the path. He was fortunate to have been sold into such a favorable house, no, an estate, a prosperous one at that. The work wasn’t overly strenuous, and resources were generously provided.
Yet, none of that truly mattered. Whoever the masters chose to be in a relationship with wasn’t his concern. Living under these new masters’ care was quite agreeable.
There was an abundance of food, cozy clothing, and comfortable accommodations. They even had the luxury of bathing daily. While he wasn’t fond of the daily ritual of using a chewing stick to clean his mouth, he had no choice.
Master Xu Feng, the ger, held hygiene as a top priority, but the servant was grateful to have found a place under his care.
It was clear that the other two men, Xuan Yang and Xuan Jian, took delight in pampering Xu Feng. He wasn’t foolish enough to provoke the pampered lover of two men like the unfortunate slaves that had been sold off.
This winter was colder than the last two years, and the last two years had claimed many lived in Donghua and beyond. This slave had seen much and had sold himself when he had no hope of surviving the slightly milder winter in south.
Many had endured suffering through the winter, yet he had everything he could desire and masters who didn’t inflict beatings, curses, or hurl objects at them.
Those sold had been too calculating for their own good, attempting to reach where they didn’t belong. It was clear; they needed to be sold.
Whether they survived this winter was unknown.
His determination solidified to remain as loyal as possible. Those who demonstrated loyalty were evidently rewarded; Erlang, who dedicated the winter to learning to read and write, was a prime example.
The boy who was much younger than him, yet much taller than him, had also been learning martial arts from the more frightening looking servants (Jie, Bo, etc).
The attention showered on both Si and San, two little servant girls was also telling. The girls often spent time in the private kitchen of Blooming Courtyard or in Xu Feng’s own craft room.
They weren’t allowed to wash clothes or serve the other servants in the main kitchen or the servant’s quarters.
He didn’t seek such attention as the three favored servants; he simply wanted to stay in such an uncomplicated household.
As for Xu Feng, he wished he didn’t have to be so cautious, especially after the incident at the exam. When he headed to Bai Mansion, he needed to remove his disguise and leave through the back alleys to maintain a bit of anonymity.
Who knew if people from the Sun residence, or any household at this point, were watching him? It was a small town, and he had been the center of a real commotion today.
Although slightly annoyed at first, today’s incident made him grateful for the temporary anonymity of the hair dye. His wish to visit the Yilin store for new seeds would have to be postponed.
The journey home proceeded smoothly, and as Xu Feng’s carriage crossed the threshold, his heart quickened. With the exams behind him, pass or fail, neither Xuan Yang or Xuan Jian had a reason to hold back anymore.
The carriage had only just barely passed the threshold when Xu Feng heard a familiar voice from outside.
"Stop!" The commanding voice was deep and low, but Xu Feng could hear the urgency in Xuan Yang’s voice.
The carriage jolted to a halt, the horse neighing in response to Xuan Yang’s commanding voice. The urgency in his tone sent a chill down Xu Feng’s spine, his heart racing with a mix of curiosity and concern.
After the incident with the new slaves, the tempered young master of the Xuan family had gotten his wits about him again. He was raised in a large family, and knew servants to climb into their master’s beds in hopes of better treatment or the chance to have the master’s child.
Xuan Yang had just gotten used to Nanshan estate, and the more innocent or loyal servants by Xu Feng’s side.
The Xuan young master was still very restrained with the new servants, but today there was more than that in his voice. There was a deep urgency. What could have happened so suddenly to evoke such a reaction?
Xu Feng could only close his eyes, and bite his lips. Whether it was in anticipation or something else, it was unknown. Instead, he prepared to descend from the carriage and meet Xuan Yang head on.
Xu Feng stood up with a start on shaky legs but before he could tetter over to the carriage door, light seeped in through the now open door.
In no time at all, the tall man was in the carriage and the distance between the two narrowed into nothingness.
Then there were soft lips pressed against his own.
The sudden appearance of Xuan Yang and the unexpected touch of his lips against Xu Feng’s brought a jolt of surprise, his heart beating faster at the unexpected closeness.
Drawing a calming breath, Xu Feng steadied himself before leaning back slightly. "What’s happening?" His voice quivered slightly.
Xuan Yang’s smile was gentle, though tinged with urgency. "You promised after the exams." There was a sense of insistence in his words, a reminder of something...
