Chapter 127: Xuan Jian
Chapter 127: Xuan Jian
The early morning sun cast a warm, golden hue over the greenhouse, turning it into an otherworldly sanctuary. The soft glow of the lantern added to the charming atmosphere, making it a place where the line between dreams and reality seemed to blur.
Xu Feng stood there, his hair reflecting the light and giving him a dream like appearance. The subtle play of light and shadow emphasized the fine features of his face, enhancing his eerie beauty. It was a beauty that couldn’t be overshadowed, even by the soothing atmosphere of the greenhouse.
Opposite him, Xuan Jian’s smile was a striking contrast to the serene setting. He had just finished his morning exercises, and a fine sheen of sweat glistened on his toned body. His grey eyes were sharp and piercing, exuding a sense of attraction that was undeniable.
Xu Feng couldn’t help but glance down at Xuan Jian’s clothing, his face flushing slightly as he fought to keep his thoughts in check. He wondered if it would be too nosey to suggest that Xuan Jian change.
Xuan Jian’s chuckle filled the air, his smile deepening as he seemed to sense Xu Feng’s inner debate. "What’s on your mind?" he inquired; his tone playful.
"Very nice to look at," Xu Feng answered truthfully as he creased his brows, "but it’s entirely too cold for you to be walking around with damp clothing."
Xu Feng’s blush deepened as he looked back into Xuan Jian’s eyes, and he cleared his throat as Xuan Jian responded cheerily. "I appreciate your concern, but those with immortal bloodlines have a higher tolerance for extreme weather and illness," he admitted, his voice holding a note of gratitude.
As they stood in the heart of the greenhouse, the world outside felt distant, the peaceful atmosphere seemed to allow them to be themselves, their barriers melting away in the presence of the soft light.
Xuan Jian’s smile remained warm as he replied, "It’s only natural to be concerned about those you care about."
The sincerity in his words washed over Xu Feng like a soothing balm, and he felt a deep sense of comfort in Xuan Jian’s presence. "Ah," he replied, his voice soft wanting to avert his eyes before he saw Xuan Jian’s face abruptly change.
With the visible change in Xuan Jian, the alarm bells went off in Xu Feng’s head along with flashbacks to the day before, was his first attempt at oral so bad?
Xuan Jian’s anger flared as he listened to Xu Feng’s soft response. It wasn’t directed at the ger himself, but at the treatment Xu Feng had endured from his family. He knew that even children with bad behavior didn’t deserve to be mistreated, especially in a household that was well off.
Xu Feng’s gentle nature and the kindness he showed to the children in the mansion made it clear that he had been a kind hearted child even in his original home. The fact that his family had treated him so poorly and burdened him with such heavy responsibilities was deeply saddening.
The compassion in Xuan Jian’s eyes was evident as he regarded Xu Feng. "I’m sorry, Xu Feng. You deserved so much better," he said, his voice filled with empathy.
He knew that no one should have to endure the kind of treatment that Xu Feng had experienced, and it pained him to think about the hardships the ger had faced.
This was most likely why the ger had changed his name from Xu Zeng to Xu Feng. He was preparing to change his fate in life, and strike a line between his old life and the new one.
Xu Feng’s eyes reflected a mixture of emotions, and he tilted his head in response to Xuan Jian’s words. As if the direction of his head would help him better understand the situation.
"You should have an increased tolerance for illness too," Xuan Jian’s face seemed to be filled with deep rage, "but you’re still healing."
Xuan Jian couldn’t contain the flood of emotions that welled up within him.
He was well aware of the cruel actions of Xu Feng’s family and how they had essentially sent him to his potential death in both their attempt to poison him and their intention to sell him to a brothel.
If one didn’t destroy him, the other would. It was a level of inhumanity that was difficult to comprehend.
Even parents with the worst intentions should recognize the value of a child with such an obvious bloodline purity.
The farm family held a significant share of the blame for their mistreatment of Xu Feng, but Lady Xuan had played a part as well. She had rushed Xu Feng into the fake marriage, fully aware of his true worth, and used him as a pawn in her plans without any regard for his well being.
"I’m sorry," Xuan Jian said, his voice heavy with grief and an unspoken apology. He knew that the suffering Xu Feng had endured was unbearable.
He and Xuan Yang should have done more for Xu Feng.
"For impaling me on your pepper?" Xu Feng, on the other hand, felt a mix of confusion and fluster at the unexpected apology.
Shouldn’t he be the one apologizing for the traumatic experience he had put Xuan Jian through, not to mention possibly ruining his first time?
"Pepper?" Xu Feng’s question was met with Xuan Jian’s perplexed expression and another question. The ger had a tendency to lead their conversations into various tangents, but Xuan Jian was determined to stay on track this time.
He continued, "No, not a pepper. I’m talking about what your family did, what the Xuan family has done, include Xuan Yang and I."
Xuan Jian couldn’t help but feel a heavy burden of responsibility for not taking better care of Xu Feng. He regarded the ger with a gentle but regretful expression, and his voice held a deep sincerity.
"Xuan Yang and I should have taken better care of you," he admitted, his tone laced with grief. "You’re still healing from the poison your parents dispensed to you before they sent you to be sold."
He paused, his features softening as he continued, "While we may not be any better than Lady Xuan for continuing this contract, we should at least allow your body to fully heal before we proceed, rather than taking advantage of you." The words carried a weight as if he were acknowledging the wrongdoing and seeking a path to make amends.
