Chapter 112: A Real Young Miss Pt.1
Xu Feng and Erlang had finally reached the renowned Central Bookstore, a tiny literary haven in the heart of Yilin town. The old bookstore exuded a sense of timelessness, its aged wooden shelves and antique scrolls lending it a unique charm.
With its traditional Donghua style, it stood as a demonstration to the town’s appreciation for both the old and the new. For Xu Feng, it was all old and antique, but that was a different discussion entirely.
Upon entering, one couldn’t help but be entranced by the well-preserved surroundings. The bookstore was a blend of old-world beauty and well-kept interiors, with its scent of old paper and ink welcoming every visitor.
The shelves were lined with a vast collection of books and scrolls, making it a treasure trove for book lovers and scholars alike. Xu Feng felt like he’d found a new paradise, he didn’t mind waiting for his husbands here for a little longer.
An impeccably dressed store attendant stood proudly at the bar that acted as the checkout area, his appearance mirroring the dignity of the bookstore itself. He greeted most patrons with a warm smile, ensuring that their every need was met (for the more wealthy looking patron) as they explored the store’s vast offerings.
Xu Feng, despite the exhaustion that clung to his body after a day of shopping, couldn’t help but become engrossed in the ambiance of the place. It was more than just the upcoming scholar’s exam that occupied his thoughts; he had yet to fully accept the impending demands of his studies.
As he wandered through the ancient bookstore, its aura transporting him to another world, Xu Feng couldn’t help but feel a sense of awe and reverence for the written word and this world in general. His head was still generally full of seeds and other seed...
Xu Feng meticulously combed through every corner of the Central Bookstore, his eyes dancing across the shelves as he explored the vast selection. Erlang dutifully followed in his wake, never venturing too far but always maintaining a watchful eye over the newly spirited ger.
Despite his exhaustion and the numbness that crept into his body, Xu Feng remained dedicated to his quest.
Unbeknown to Xu Feng, who hadn’t fully embraced his role as a ger, his behavior hadn’t changed when it came to moving about Yilin town. He still navigated the town as a man, with an air of confidence and obliviousness to the attention he drew. Erlang, however, had a different perspective.
He noticed how the ger had become somewhat immune to the curious gazes, as though his time with Xuan Yang and Xuan Jian had desensitized him to the stares and whispers of others.
While Xu Feng was blissfully unaware or maybe willingly unaware of the scrutiny, Erlang had to bear the brunt of it, trying to deflect unwanted attention as much as possible.
In the Central Bookstore, things took a different turn. With Xuan Yang and Xuan Jian noticeably absent, the focused stares on Xu Feng became more direct, almost as if the intruding gazes could pierce through him.
It was a noticeable change, and while Xu Feng remained blissfully oblivious, Erlang felt the pressure of their absence.
With the two immortal blood descendants by Xu Feng’s side, Erlang hadn’t needed to fend off these unwelcome looks. But now, he had to go it alone, directing his most intimidating glares at those who dared to eye Xu Feng too long.
It was a tough and tiring task, and not everyone seemed to notice his silent warnings.
The group of newcomers with a young master with an air of entitlement, seemed especially determined to make eye contact with Xu Feng.
Maybe it was because of the humble puffer coat the silver haired ger wore, or the fact that only a single servant dressing similarly followed Xu Feng. The young master appeared to think that his status entitled him to respect and admiration, even from a married ger like Xu Feng.
Xu Feng’s awareness of the leering gazes was undeniable. He wasn’t entirely oblivious to the situation, and he was quietly hoping that the disrespectful young man would eventually find some semblance of self-respect. In an act of passive resistance, he even twirled his earring, ensuring it was displayed prominently for anyone to see.
It still stung, not fully healed from the piercing only three days ago, but it was worth it to flash the young man if it would diminish the building situation.
Frustrated with the persistent attention from the young master, Xu Feng decided to make a more obvious point. He deliberately maneuvered toward the sections of books related to gers who were expecting or those focused on raising healthy eggs till hatching.
He wanted to send a clear and unmistakable signal: ’I’m taken. Please leave me alone.’
Also, ’You are an entitled asshole, keep your eyes to yourself.’
But even these not-so-subtle hints seemed to fall on deaf ears. The young master continued to intrude on Xu Feng’s space, much to his annoyance.
When this didn’t seem to work, Xu Feng even made a few pointed looks at the ger that arrived with the group of young masters. The ger was dressed in what seemed to be common for gers taking a more traditionally feminine role in society.
He was dressed in high quality robes, and beautiful brown fur coat barely covering the high quality silk below it.
Despite the ger’s delicate appearance and finely applied makeup, the glare he shot at Xu Feng was seething with disgust and even a hint of hatred. It was as if he harbored a fierce desire to rip Xu Feng apart if given the chance.
The ger didn’t look like he had the strength to truss a chicken, but he still had enough venom to spit at Xu Feng who accidentally took the attention from him.
Xu Feng couldn’t help but sigh in exasperation. It seemed like the safest course of action was to stay within the confines of the Nanshan Estate, tending to his seeds and avoiding unnecessary outings. After all, home was where he could find peace and escape the challenges of the outside world.
When you transmigrate to another world, drama tends to follow.
