Chapter 104: A Very Good Show

Chapter 104: A Very Good Show

Were the women better matches for Xuan Yang and Xuan Jian? After all, they belonged to this world and were likely raised in more wealthy households than him.

Either way, all Xu Feng wanted to know was whether his plan had worked on the two men. After a few moments, the conversation between the shop assistant and Erlang resumed, and the shopkeeper joined in.

The women, however, began to swarm around the two attractive men like sharks circling their prey.

Xu Feng discreetly peered up at Xuan Jian, who maintained his icy and impassive expression. It was evident that the situation was far from enjoyable for him. As Xu Feng glanced over, his eyes met a pair of deep, dark orbs.

Xuan Yang’s appearance was striking, with his deep, expressive eyes and a small, charming smile. He exuded an air of confidence and sophistication, and his mere smile elicited gasps from those in the room. The ongoing conversation ceased, and all eyes were now fixed on the women who seemed to have experienced the magic of Xuan Yang’s smile.

Although Xu Feng had been caught, he couldn’t help but smile back at the Xuan young master and nod as he beckoned him over. That smile was mesmerizing.

Even if he was caught, what could they do to him?

Xu Feng wasn’t concerned about any consequences. After leaving a quick word with Erlang, he made his way to the front of the store with Xuan Yang.

As they stepped outside, the storefront was packed with women and eligible gers of marriageable age. Some of them were clearly already married, as indicated by the piercings in their ears, but they had still come to watch a good show.

Hot men had amazing effects on women in any era.

"Next time, if you want to go out with me, you’re both going to wear masks."

"We’ll all wear masks," Xuan Yang added looking back at the ger’s joyful stare, "We won’t come to Yilin town in the future."

Xu Feng’s laughter was infectious, and he couldn’t help but find humor in the situation. He wondered if Xuan Yang’s discomfort was because of the unwelcome attention or if he was simply displeased by the unwanted affections lavished on his lover.

Meanwhile, Xuan Jian remained inside the store, patiently enduring the scrutiny of the increasingly bold women and gers.

When Xuan Yang finally spoke again when they reached a quieter spot outside the store, Xu Feng tried hard to focus on their conversation despite the curious gazes of onlookers.

People had indeed become bolder, from their departure from the carriage to the wonton stall, and now at the cloth store, they barely knew what shame was. They watched shamelessly without moving, seemingly unfazed by courtesy.

Xuan Yang informed Xu Feng that he and Xuan Jian would temporarily part ways. Xu Feng nodded quickly and maintained a composed expression, responding, "Okay, be safe."

Xuan Yang’s eyes narrowed slightly, and he continued, "You can purchase any food items we’ll need for the winter. The weather will begin to warm in three moon cycles."

Xu Feng nodded in acknowledgment, noting that it was currently January, based on his late November arrival in this world. The winter here seemed to start later, in January, and last until early March.

Xu Feng listened attentively as Xuan Yang explained their plans. The mention of the central bookstore caught him by surprise, as he couldn’t recall when the man had found the time to acquire such specific information about the town.

"We’ll meet in the central bookstore."

Intrigued and slightly confused, Xu Feng asked, "Central bookstore?"

Xuan Yang clarified, "It’s on the main street. Erlang will know the way. Don’t go anywhere alone."

Xuan Yang wanted to continue to warn the chronically mischievous ger. He didn’t want to leave the troublemaker alone nor did Xuan Jian, it would only lead to trouble, but they needed to go to a few places before they were trapped in the estate.

’Yes mom,’ Xu Feng thought to himself but the look of surprise on his face was still vivid.

Xuan Yang couldn’t keep his silence any longer, "I lived in Nanshan when I was younger."

"Oh." Xu Feng responded.

That made more sense. "Xuan Jian lived here too?"

"No...yes?" Xuan Yang didn’t know which answer he wanted to go with. At this Xu Feng didn’t want to pry.

The explanation he got from Xuan Yang was enough to explain his (Xuan Yang’s) knowledge of the area. As for Xuan Jian, Xuan Yang’s response was hesitant and uncertain. There was something there.

But Xu Feng didn’t press further, respecting their boundaries and understanding that some things might be personal. He reassured Xuan Yang, "You don’t need to tell me," in a tone that suggested he wasn’t pushing for more information.

He then quickly added, "Erlang and I will visit a few stores and compare their stock and prices, so we might be late getting to the bookstore." It was clear that he was ready to continue with his plans, end the day, and get away from all the stares.

The bustling streets of Yilin, were abnormally packed with people as they bustled around and gawked at the eye-catching couple. As Xuan Yang and Xu Feng were finishing up their conversation, trying to ignore the onlookers around them, a carriage crept closer, not slowing down as it moved to get past the crowd.

Xuan Yang nodded, after seeing Xu Feng’s prowess in shopping he wasn’t surprised. "We should leave Yilin before nightfall."

Xu Feng nodded, he wouldn’t be that long. Honestly, his feet were already sore and tingling from all the walking they’d done. The ancient shoes weren’t helping. The pain crept up his shins to the back of his thighs, he was tempted to pull out some seeds, and re-energize, but this was the least private place possible.

Was having wood ability really a golden finger? He was starting to miss modern luxuries. Were shoes considered a luxury?

Xu Feng’s internal monologue was disrupted by the approaching sound of a fast moving ox-pulled carriage as it began to lose control on the road. Xuan Yang swiftly reached out, attempting to pull Xu Feng who was still half lost in thought out of the way of the impatient vehicle.

"Ahhh!"
