The General's Wife Wants to Leave -
Chapter 83: About to change the term
Chapter 83: About to change the term
After the unprecedented incidents occurred in the forest, together with the possibility, as was reminded by the General, that those people might still wander around the forest, planning to capture her, Joanna had decided to shorten her visitation time than usual.
"Mrs. Powel, I think we will leave tomorrow," said Joanna with a gloomy look.
She had usually spent longer days in the orphanage, and this time was the shortest time of her visitation after she had been absent for about three seasons because of her marriage with the General.
She did not know when she could visit the orphanage again, given the fact that she was still holding the status of the wife of the General.
Considering he surprisingly came to find her in the orphanage despite the offensive message she passed to him through the senior maid for him to return to Archess himself, and added with his light response to her unwillingness to have children, it was highly likely that marriage annulment was impossible for the time being.
Moreover, his stern warnings were still playing vividly in her mind, making her cautious about posing the daring request as before.
It was a relief that he did not do anything at their first shared bed together, and she did not want to provoke him, which would only put herself in danger, as so far what she had learned from him was that he was a man of his words, which was relieving yet worrying at the same time.
When Joanna recalled about sharing bed with him, she had her mind disturbed since she woke up this morning. People who were here in the orphanage knew that she had shared a room with her husband. Although nothing happened between them, thanks to the trustworthy General, people would not know what transpired behind the door of the married couple’s room.
Even though she knew that the news would not spread widely from her side, she could not be sure if the opposite side would keep this matter to themselves. Therefore, it was a matter of time for Joanna to not be able to use the term marriage annulment for her separation from the General, but divorce.
"Why so sudden, my lady? You usually stay longer here," the older lady inquired after being silent in surprise for a moment.
At the question of Mrs. Powel, Joanna could only offer a warm smile and simply answer, "I have something to do at home, Mrs. Powel. I am so sorry for that."
She, of course, could not say that she had to leave the mountain soon because she was the deer that was being hunted by the wolves, which would only make the older lady grow worried about her.
Joanna actually wanted to stay longer as she thought about Liam and Sir Luca, who were not completely healed yet. However, she tried to ease her mind, as she was sure that Liam’s condition was far better now and that Mrs. Powel would be able to look after him better than her. Meanwhile, for Sir Luca, the General might find a way to take him back to the de Lara mansion. Or else he would stay longer in the orphanage until he fully recovered.
"Will Lady Joanna come back to visit us again?" Joanna turned her head to look at Denny, who asked her, and she felt touched by looking into his sad eyes.
Giving a gentle pat on the brown-eyed boy’s head with a tender look, the words that she was going to say as an answer were hanging on the tip of her tongue when the deep voice of the big man filled the room earlier than hers.
"She will, once we visit Terra." And the big man’s answer made the little boy open his eyes wide.
Moving his head from the General toward the young lady beside him in a swift motion, Denny then asked, "Visit Terra? Lady Joanna, are you going to leave Terra?" His puppy-looking eyes along with a voice that was laced with sadness made Joanna’s heart somehow sad, elevating the gloomy feeling she felt when she heard about leaving Terra.
Before this time, she had been absent for about nine months, but her departure to Terra was hidden from the kids, and she only conveyed her farewell to Mrs. Powel. Hence, there was no drama as it was now.
Joanna was literally speechless at the conduct of the big man, who liked to make situations complicated.
She wanted to say that she was not going to leave Terra, as she did not want to leave Terra, particularly to follow him to the place where all the events that she saw in the dream happened there. But she refrained from making the statement, which would for sure end up with another argument with him.
Besides, apart from the fact that it was not good to make a scene over a private matter in front of Mrs. Powel and the kids, learning from his reaction and response every time she brought up the request, she would only earn nothing. All of her efforts would be fruitless. Hence, Joanna would keep herself from arguing about that matter.
However, the problems soon appeared once she decided not to voice her inner thoughts.
"Yes, because she is my wife. So she will follow me, her husband, to my homeland, Archess Kingdom," Canillas answered on behalf of his speechless wife. And his answer had caused the room to be filled with loud gasps that came from the children in the room.
Soon, the room turned chaotic. Various noises from children’s murmuring, crying, sobbing, and chattering took over the calmness of the room.
"No, Lady Joanna, please don’t go far away. We still want to see you again. We still want to play with you," came a sobbing voice from five seats away from her side. And it was Emma who was sobbing, and she stood up from her seat to approach Joanna.
At the sight of another weeping child, Joanna gritted her teeth. It was a reaction that was not aimed at the innocent kids but solely at the mischievous big man in the room.
Couldn’t he hold his troubled tongue from saying something that he did not need to share in front of the kids? Joanna was literally annoyed at him. She had held back from arguing with him, but look what he did at the moment. Joanna sighed heavily.
On the other hand, Canillas was perplexed, as he found that the current situation was not as he had predicted. Why did these kids become grumpy like this? Wasn’t what he said the truth? She was his wife, and she would follow him, her husband, to Archess.
He just helped his wife answer the question that was given to her by the kids, as he knew that she would have said that she would not leave Terra and go to Archess if he did not join the current eventful breakfast.
Then, from the view that came to his sight, he realized that these kids had grown in their affection and bond with his wife. This realization made Canillas’ heart stir with mixed feelings.
