Chapter 115: Totally a waste

Chapter 115: Totally a waste

"He is..." Lady Clara subtly glanced in a certain direction, which Joanna caught, but she remained unfazed, as if oblivious to that.

"No." Lady Clara shook her head after taking a momentary silence. "Lady Joanna doesn’t know about him. And there is no need to know about him because..." Lady Clara took a pause before continuing to say, "He is a married man now." Her voice, which was spoken in a whisper, was laced with sorrow.

"Oh my..." Joanna looked shocked, covering her mouth with her gloved hand. "I am sorry to hear that, Lady Clara. And I am sorry to make you talk about that." Joanna responded with a sympathetic tone in her voice, to which Lady Clara stared at her in bewilderment.

"But what if he has meant to be Lady Clara’s match from heaven and he happens to be a free man again? Will Lady Clara be willing to accept him as a husband despite his failure in his first marriage?" Joanna asked, still with a concerning look on her face, in contrast to the puzzled look on her talking opponent, who seemed to be more bewildered as the conversation went on.

About ten seconds had passed, but silence still fell around the three people who were together in one spot, surrounded by colorful and fragrant flowers.

Bees and butterflies happily showed their affection for the beauty and fragrance that caught their senses.

Joanna was well aware of the awkwardness among them, but she still dared pose with her calm demeanor, as she did not want to lose the precious opportunity that came without warning, like many events that she faced lately.

She only believed one thing at the moment. No gentleman could ignore the existence of Clara de Lorn. It was just like people who passed by where they were now and had their gazes on the beautiful blonde lady. Hence, she had her hope high at the moment, despite the inexplicable discomfort inside her.

Not long later, Joanna received a response from Lady Clara, which broke the awkward silence among them. "I am not sure if that possibility will exist. But if we mean to be together as husband and wife, I will wholeheartedly accept him as my forever spouse no matter the status he holds, and I will definitely try my all to be a perfect wife for him." Her beautiful face showed determination.

"But that is not a wise decision to make, my lady." A manly voice suddenly joined in the ladies’ conversation, interrupting the response that Joanna was about to give for the answer she obtained.

Taking a seat in a calm, fluid movement beside Joanna after standing while watching over the ladies’ interaction before his eyes, Canillas put his arm around Joanna’s waist.

Surprised, Joanna turned her head to look at the face of the man who made a surprising movement, only to find him offer her a radiant smile.

Wriggling, Joanna tried to free herself from Canillas, but to no avail as the grip on her waist became tighter.

"My wife is always shy whenever I show my deep affection to her," Canillas commented with a chuckle. Not releasing his hold on Joanna’s waist, he turned to face the lady before them and said,

"I am sorry if I became too presumptuous in interrupting the ladies’ warm conversation." Canillas offered the blue-eyed lady a slight bow before resuming his speech. "It just feels wrong if I don’t convey my opinion while knowing that Lady Clara seems to be a good acquaintance for my wife."

"If the man who occupied a special place in Lady Clara’s heart has already married, my advice as a married man will be that it is better for Lady Clara to move on. Don’t ever expect a married man to be your husband, even if his first marriage comes to an end." Canillas voiced his opinion in a decisive tone.

"It just doesn’t make any sense. What the need to wait for a man who has married if Lady Clara is a very well known as a very beautiful, righteous, and talented lady and has received numerous proposals in marriage, just like my beautiful wife endlessly stated her endless praise over you." Canillas looked back at the overwhelmed lady in his arm, who looked at him with her big, puffy eyes.

After offering the overwhelmed lady who stopped wriggling a smile, Canillas looked back at the lady sitting across from him. He said, "If I may advise, it is better to consider choosing one of them rather than choosing an ex-married man to be your husband before your beauty fades away and the proposals never come again." Canillas advised without any hesitation, not caring if he sounded offensive. He kept speaking instead.

"He is just a waste, totally a waste, especially when he chose another woman to be his wife rather than the famous Lady Clara. Just show him that you can have a much happier marriage life compared to his. Don’t you think it is a better thing to do, my lady?"

Not bothering to spend his time looking at the change of countenance of the lady whom he had advised, Canillas brought his smiling face to the bewildered woman beside him.

"It is not good to meddle in someone’s private matter, wife." Canillas shifted to reprimanding his nosy wife in a serious tone. "I advise you to refrain from doing that in the future. It is good if your acquaintance doesn’t feel offended by what you have asked about. But what if they actually feel offended and keep that feeling in their hearts?"

"I think we have had enough conversation here." Canillas said subsequently, as he did not wait for any response from the bewildered Joanna. "It is time to go home. There are so many things we, as husband and wife, have to do at home. Don’t you think so, wife?" Joanna shivered as Canillas rubbed her waist when he spoke.

She sensed that she had dug her own grave just by looking at the unusually daunting glint in his green eyes. Even his deep voice sent chills through her entire being.

"We are sorry if we have to take our excuse first, my lady. Please do consider what this humble married man has advised you. And I apologize if we might have offended you."

With that, Canillas rose from his seat and pulled Joanna’s hand, which was in his, for her to stand from her seat as well. And both Canillas and Joanna left Lady de Lorn after offering her a slight bow.

Striding toward the carriage, which had waited for them longer than predicted because of a brief conversation, Joanna could not stop her heart from racing wildly in her chest in accordance with the tightening intensity of the grip around her hand, as if knowing what was waiting for her once they were inside the carriage.
