The General's Wife Wants to Leave -
Chapter 105: Dear Mister Camel
Chapter 105: Dear Mister Camel
There was no slight doubt in Joanna’s mind about who sent the gift to her after she found out how it was organized.
Joanna then took the rolled letter, and after letting out a sigh on her smiling lips, she untied the light blue ribbon and unrolled the white paper to find what was written on it.
’My dearest ugly sister,
Challenge: I dare you to read one of the books once you find this precious gift.
Wish: You should have known what this handsome brother wished for his forever ugly sister. [Draw of a smiling face]
Happy birthday.
Until we meet again,
Your forever handsome brother’
A chuckle escaped Joanna’s lips, and it resonated in the tranquil room after Joanna read the content of the letter that was written by her sole older brother, Phillip de Lara, who was studying in Lasse.
Spending some more time to read the letter once again, Joanna wiped away the wetness of her eyes with the sleeves of her nightgown. As the tears that threatened to flow down had been wiped away, Joanna rolled back the letter and tied it with the same ribbon, so the letter was now in the same shape as before it was touched.
With the rolled letter still in her hand, Joanna took the book that was placed on top of one other book with her other hand before placing the letter back on top of the book that was still laid on the white box.
Joanna thought that her brother should have come into her room to keep the gift when he went home a couple of months ago, as her father told her. It looked like finding samples for his study was not the only reason for him to go home from Lasse.
Her brother never missed a chance to give her a birthday gift. Before she was married and moved to Archess, the gift had never come late in her hand, as her brother would gift her right on her birthday. Even when he studied far from Barasca, he would be home a few days before her birthday, or he would send the birthday gift through a messenger if he happened to be buried with overload assignments.
However, although her birthday had passed as it was over three months ago, which was during the spring season, exactly when she was away from Terra, she was happy to receive the gift from her brother. It made her feel glad to go back home from that miserable place. Otherwise, the gift would never come into her hands.
Aside from that, if she had not been invited to the birthday banquet of the Crown Prince, the books would have stayed there without being found by her. If it was placed in the wardrobe where her daily attire was kept, the gift should have been found many days ago.
It did not mean that the wardrobe was never opened. After she returned from Archess about a month ago, she kept the fancy dresses that she brought to Archess back in the wardrobe. However, she was not the one who did it, but Bianca.
The senior maid should not have known that it was a gift from her brother, as she might have thought that it was hers instead. Therefore, the senior maid did not say anything about that if she happened to see it.
Since then, apart from Bianca, who routinely checked the condition of her clothes in the wardrobes, Joanna had never opened that wardrobe, as she spent almost all of her time at home, and there were no social gatherings she attended.
But she was sure that Phillip should not have known about the difference between the wardrobes in her room, as although their relationship as brother and sister was considered to be close, there were boundaries that made them not know the details of the content of their room.
Moreover, although Phillip always included challenges as part of the gifts that she had complained a lot about until now, making them hard to find was never part of his game. So she was sure that he just meant to keep it there, as he might not have thought that she would return home.
Nevertheless, although he knew that there was a high probability for her not to return to Terra, he kept gifting her, and she knew well why he did that, like how she knew Phillip’s unspoken birthday wishes for her.
She also knew why he had not sent the gift to her in Archess. Her brother was still in a phase where he could not accept the reality that she was married and lived far away, as from the beginning he disapproved of her marriage with the General of Archess.
With the book in her hands, Joanna read the title.
’Dear Mister Camel’.
Soon, Joanna’s eyes went wide at the realization of what the book was. It was the book that she wanted to read before the marriage decree fell upon her and disrupted her peaceful life.
The book was published in autumn last year and written by a novice author from the Crasta Kingdom, a small kingdom located in the west part of the Maldava continent.
She asked her brother to purchase it for her, as the ladies at one of the tea parties she happened to attend talked about that book endlessly during the whole event. Although she did not join in the lively conversation, as she just sat quietly with one lady and listened to that, it did not miss catching her interest.
They said that the book was well written and sold well not long after it was released. Since Lasse was the center of literacy in Terra, it was easy to get the book there.
Joanna was excited to finally have the book she wanted to read, as she was curious about how great the author and the story were, which made the ladies talk about it wholeheartedly with sparkle in their eyes.
Her brother was never disappointing, and she was proud to have Phillip as her brother, although most of the time he would disturb her with his cheekiness and playfulness.
After placing back the box and the dress she had taken out before in the wardrobe, Joanna climbed up her comfortable bed, ready to read the best-selling book that was finally in her hands.
She had cancelled the plan to check if the dress fit her body. There were a few days ahead to try it. If it did not fit her body, she would simply choose a dress that fit her, even if it had been worn.
At the moment, not only because she had to be fair with the dare her brother challenged her, which was to read the book not long after it was found, but she was also conquered by her curiosity over the book.
’Dear Mister Camel’, what the tale of the book was about, Joanna was eager to know about that.
