Chapter 67: Sacrifice

"Well, of course we had to be there alone, since we are husband and wife. It’s only right for us to seek some special time alone, isn’t it? It’s always you guys or my subordinates breaking in during our alone time, we don’t have the least bit of privacy around you guys. That’s why we lost you and had some private time alone. By the way, it seems that, your Mistress also liked it very much."

Yun Shu’s provoking words were intentional, and was able to successfully enrage the man in front of her very well.

"Young Lord...!"

"However, we accidentally stumbled over an important inheritance on our way home. Xian Xian will return once he is done with safely taking over. There is also the matter of his cultivation. I think the tribulations will soon strike down and he’ll improve to a new stage, that’s why I left him there and returned first. Don’t worry, with me here as his life guarantor, nothing bad will happen to him."

Yun Shu’s words were true, the commander couldn’t refute her words as he stormed out of the tent.

Though Yun Shu’s men were angry that they behaved rudely with their lord, Yun Shu waved her hand to appease them that it’s nothing, so they needn’t worry about this and do their own work.

"Strike ahead, destroy the City Gate!"

When Yun Shu fought the zombies with her subordinates together, another team was tasked with the safety of the civilians who still didn’t get infected.

The City Lord and Governor were arrested and brought to Yun Shu by her subordinates, though they protested and were unwilling to see her.

"This is... dark magic. Just as I expected... "

"But how? As far as I am aware, the demonic cultivators didn’t infiltrate the Empire. How come there are traces of dark magic and demonic aura fused within them?" The Shadow commander was concerned and shocked at the same time after seeing both individuals, the dark aura was oozing out of their every limb.

He didn’t expect to see such a situation that wasn’t under his report, how could his informants make such a mistake?

This was impossible!

"We’ll know once we ask them, no?" Yun Shu flung the dagger around her finger as she pointed it towards the guy on his knees, Governor Li.

"Say, Governor, what made you help the demonic cultivators when you were doing just fine? Aren’t you aware that the Empire forbids civilians to work together with demonic cultivators?"

"I-I... ugh! Ahhhh!" Frightened by the intimidating aura and pressure from a high cultivator, the Governor was about to spill the bean when his words stopped coming out as he started to scream.

"What’s wrong with him? Why is he like this?"

The Shadow Commander couldn’t believe what he saw as he was in awe, the Governor fell down on the floor as he trembled and shook, bubbles kept coming out of his mouth until his body stopped moving.

"He’s dead. It’s the price for paying with his life after he made the pact with those Demonic Cultivators. Sigh, what a waste of time..."

Yun Shu seemed to be annoyed by the situation more than being bothered that the man died on the spot.

She waved her hand to signal her subordinates, as two of them walked inside the cellar and took away the body in silence.

"We don’t know if this one also made a pact or not, well, he just fainted from the shock that his accomplice died the moment he tried to spill the information. Call me back after he wakes up, I’ll do the interrogation myself."

Yun Shu said as she put her hand in the water bowl and washed them before taking the towel and walking out of the cellar while cleaning her hands.

"You don’t seem surprised, were you aware, or you simply knew that they would pull such a trick? My Lord."

The commander knew something was up after he saw the unmoved look in Yun Shu’s eyes. How could he believe that she didn’t know anything beforehand?

Yun Shu knew very well that the Shadow guards commander was suspicious of her, but she didn’t care and did her things as she was.

Seriously, how could she say and explain to him that she saw people die even more gruesome deaths in the torture cell of the Empire?

These kinds of people, as long as you show your true self to them and do as you please without a care, they will make an evaluation of your character judging by themselves and decide whether to open their heart or not. So Yun Shu just let him be as she worked hard day and night, occasionally thinking about how Bai Yunxian was doing in that closed off area.

It was fortunate that he didn’t come along in the subjugation, since the situation was nastier than it should be. Yun Shu was very thankful to the gods who made him destined to get stuck in that closed place.

She couldn’t bear to show him this ugly and ruthless side of hers that many people will find disgusting.

Her cold hearted nature was just a show for others to dine on, she couldn’t bear to be herself in front of others because of the heavy responsibility she bore in her shoulders, not to mention concealing her gender as well.

The Shadows also brought forward a helping hand after watching Yun Shu’s honest efforts, as they fought together hand in hand. The investigation also went ahead as day became night and dusk turned to dawn.

After two week and five days later,

Bang! Boom!

There was a commotion outside the territory where they made a new camp inside the city. Yun Shu also came out to see what’s going on, only to discover a big lump of stone concealed with a rune.

"Just as I thought..." Yun Shu mumbled as she brushed her nose.

"We have found this just as the Master mentioned." Both Six and Lotus bowed towards Yun Shu as they waited for her instructions.

"You guys did well, however, I’ll take up things from here on out."

Though Lotus was proficient in Demonic Arts, she was still no match for the curse imbued on the lump in front of them.

The curse placed on this thing was created by sacrificing many lives, and Lotus didn’t have the ability to neutralize such a powerful curse.

"My Lord, I can still take care of this thing! You don’t need to put yourself in danger!" Lotus wanted to stop Yun Shu, but Yun Shu didn’t listen to Lotus as she passed by the girl, ignoring her words as she gripped the rune paper and tore it aside.

Kyak!

"Hup! Hngg...!"

Lotus put both her hands on her mouth to stop screaming out as she saw the horrible scene before her eyes, it was truly a nauseating and horrifying sight to behold.

"It is exactly what you are seeing right now. This lump inside the rune isn’t stone, but dead bodies of humans."

Yun Shu calmly explained the situation to her subordinates whose face distorted after seeing this, not even in their torture cell did they see such an inhumanely disfigured body.

What’s more, the owner of this head didn’t seem to be much older... were they at most teenagers? They were considered childrens!

How could they do this?! Sacrificing a bunch of childrens just to curse a city... It was the role model for the immorality and viciousness of those Demonic Cultivator bastards!

While the people around her were enraged and busy cursing the demonic cultivator bastards, Yun Shu already swiped the lump of rotten human meat out of their sight.

The reward for my quest completion came just in time, I can use it to get rid of this curse through and through.’

Before, the system was taking time to update, her reward for clearing the quest of Bai Yunxian’s memories was on hold.

"Since I have this thing at hand, lifting the curse won’t be too much of a hassle." Yun Shu mumbled as she lit the fire on her finger.

It wasn’t dangerous or anything, the fire seemed to be wrapped around her finger as it lit up, but Yun Shu didn’t feel any burning sensation on her fingertip.

The color of the fire wasn’t exactly blue as its name, rather, it was a light blue with a mixture of a little orange and light red.
